The Last of Us Season 2 reviews are starting to come out

DragoonKain

Neighbours from Hell

Some highlights:

-Great production values
-Doesn't feel as fleshed out or as emotional as season 1
-Season 2's ending is abrupt, on a cliff hanger
-Without the context of season 3, some things in season 2 are going to feel incomplete and empty
-Abby apparently isn't in it nearly as much as we expected
-Some events have been moved around and sometimes not for the better
-Due to episode constraints, it doesn't give a lot of time for some of the best moments and plot points to breathe, feels rushed at times
-Some of the biggest moments from the game have the show bouncing around between events taking some of the impact away from it
-Tommy and Dina are featured heavily and are the stars of the show

I can see the season suffering from only telling half the story of the 2nd game.

Hopefully the 3rd season is a year away or less vs the 2+ years it's taken for season 2 to arrive.

Has to be better than the first season, right? Apart from 2 episodes it was boring as fuck.
If anything, it sounds worse. Sounds ike they once again removed key story archs and gore due to time and/or rating constraints. And they're only telling half the story.

Everyone attacked for criticizing TLoU2's story, structure, storytelling, and narrative should be vindicated 💪👑

The source material was always going to be really difficult to translate to TV compared to season 1. They had a tough task ahead of them.

If people get mad that the story has changed. And these same people were mad at the original story... i just dont know what to say at that point lmao

these are the scores first season shouldve got. shit was middd, wack casting too Bella Ramsey had the believabilty of the fuckin tooth fairy

Well, fans of TLOU2 dont like to admit it, but the story or rather the plot of the sequel simply isnt as good. There is literally nothing that happens when you get to Seattle with Ellie. The three days basically go by as she eliminates one person after another. There is no story there. It's mostly just Ellie either going at it alone or with Dina or Jesse for a few missions.

Abby's plot of saving those two kids isnt particularly great either, but at least there is a plot of an impending invasion of the island that the show couldve built around.

The game is boring despite the stunning visuals, excellent combat, and superb level design because the story is simply lacking. They shouldve crammed everything in one season instead of splitting it into two.

Sure. Especially when its a story heavy game that literally pauses every couple of hours to do walking flashbacks, and show long cutscenes that ultimately go nowhere.

I had big hopes for S1, but it felt weirdly hollow. Nothing felt as exciting as the first part in the first episode. And the filler episode 3 annoyed me because there were so few episodes in the season and that time should have been spent on Joel and Ellie.

No, this is just a bad take.

With is kinda funny that this Abby is more realistic than that atrocity in the game. This is a post-apocalyptic world after all, people even eat each other because lack of food, but somehow Abby got supplements.

In short, another waste of money just like part 2.

Chapter 3 wasn't filler. It was a propaganda piece about ethanasia and male suicide disguised as a gay romance.

Not subtle at all to someone who can recognize patterns.

I'm still amazed how a game like Fallout with a let's say mediocre story turned into a better tv show than TLOU with allegedly one of the best stories in gaming history.

Yep. The fact that they did TWO filler episodes. One for Bill and one for Riley. Like dude, the Riley sequence was not in the original game for a reason. it would've completely destroyed the pacing of that fantastic winter level. Not to mention the fact that HBO only gave them 9 episodes and 2 of those were wasted on side characters instead of building Joel and Ellie's relationship. Something already virtually impossible thanks to the poor casting of not just Ellie but Joel. I will die on this hill. Joel was poorly cast. Pedro simply lacked the gravitas and ruthlessness of Troy Baker's Joel.

Probably not going to watch it anyway just like the first season but hope they change the story enough so might actually watch it eventually if that's the case and Abby should be a way better character in this one. Extra points if she kills Ellie.

I'm playing the game right now and it's boring the fuck outta me.

I loved TLOU but I can't will myself to continue.

well, I'd say that the fallout universe is simply a more imaginative & entertaining one than the last of us universe...

You do. You dish it out like the best of them. You just cant take it.

Here's why it's a bad take.

A lot happens throughout her journey in Seattle.

Viewers want to know WHO Abby is and WHY she killed Joel. What's also revealed during this journey is how Joel and Ellie's relationship slowly deteriorates. The game makes you believe that Ellie didn't reconcile with Joel before his death.

Seattle
Day One
- Morning - Ellie and Dina look for the WLF base in Seattle. This is important because it introduces the WLF and their war against the Seraphites. Jordan is killed
- Evening - Ellie leaves the theatre to save Tommy (Turns out to be Jessie)
Day Two
- Seraphites are introduced
- Ellie finds out WHY they
killed Joel[/ispoiler] from Nora.
Day Three
- Jesse and Ellie go out to find Tommy
- Mel and Owen are killed.

Getting "revenge" and figuring out why they killed Joel IS the story.

Don't know why they need to be faithful to the game, it's not like it's a huge Harry Potter novel or something, keep the major plot points and gut the rest.

I really enjoyed the first season, despite hating the first game. I haven't played the second game, very much looking forward to watching this.

Hang on. Did I check out midway through the first season or didn't it end roughly half way through the first game's story?

LOL. Guess I did... or was it really that unmemorable?
