Druckman anti-hyping this played right into my base emotion of having no interest in it whatsoever. Season one was good, but it was mostly in spite of everything the medium change altered. In short, I didn't like a lot of casting choices, exclusions from the game, lack of Infected, pacing, etc, but it was based on a story and world that I was highly invested in, at least.
With season 2, (and presumably 3 and 4) following the Part 2 narrative, it's basically shaping up to be the same reaction from me as the first season, without having much of any reverence for the source material it's based on.
On to Druckman anti-hyping: I'm reading between the lines in that last interview he had, but "physicality isn't as important for Abby in the show since there's less violence," shit hangs me up in a different way than I'm seeing most places. Most are using it as "that's because it's fucking unrealistic and Druckman finally has to acknowledge it," fodder, but I'm zeroing in on the last bit. A. - No golf? Just a gunshot or something? And B. - less violence what the fuck lmfao it's HBO and the entire point of the game is the cycle of revenge and the human impulse toward violence and hatred in relation to family and love. If you take a dull knife's blade off it's handle, it's now 100% less useful than before, dull though it was.
Furthermore, for people who disliked part 2, the only hope for the franchise was a part 3 that rounded everything out in a satisfying way, and gave the show several years of material to work with, capping off both in a good way. Druckman decides the best way to hype season 2 is to be like "hahaha, yeah, this is probably it, tlou bores the fuck out of my old grey ass, kek,"
The balloon has deflated, and been filled with shit.
