Way too convoluted. Bungie will sell a couple million copies at launch no matter what, imo. They have too many die hard fans that love their gunplay. The only reason Bungie would consider a F2P model is if they were genuinely concerned the playerbase would not stick around due to lack of content at launchIn terms of pricing, I wonder if Bungie could do both F2P and a paid release.
Seems like a good idea to me? Entice people that won't pay full price, but they can still play the game in a limited fashion and unlock Runners at their preference.
- F2P = access to 1 runner that you can progress through 1 faction, don't have access to purple or gold tier loot but can access all the weapons.
- $10 purchase to unlock additional Runners and unlock purple/gold loot. Gain access to additional faction.
- $40-50 = access to all runners, all factions, all loot.

And after games like The Finals and X-Defiant, I doubt we see anymore F2P AAA GAAS games. The gaas industry is such a massive gamble that these studios desperately need upfront sales money to cushion the blow if the game ends up failing
Marathon hopes to be around for 10+ years, so I doubt they care too much about their launch numbers, as long as they are big enough to keep the lights on. From that perspective, Bungie would be leaving a lot of money on the table by making it F2P

Yeah, but then you got people complaining about P2W ect. I would actually be annoyed if I bought the game and was playing against a bunch of players with a disadvantage. That's not good for anybodyI don't think it's too convoluted, if the game is great it'll entice people to buy up
I agree though that I don't think it's necessary, but I don't think it would be leaving money on the table because it would be pretty restrictive in terms of progression and if people enjoy the game they will want to pay for the full experience
wtf am I even looking at here? Looks like a malformed Lego set.
edit: I see I'm not the first person who thought there was something vaguely Lego about it, lol.

Tbf since the old skool whiners wanted it to stay true to the original(s), it seems they tried to somewhat stick to the pixelated-art from back then.Art look like it was randomly generated with missing texture assets. Its going to be the game's downfall.

In depth discussion of the Ship map. Guy says that it's the factor that defines Marathon and pushes the bar on what an extraction can feel like. He played the ship map a year ago and back then it blew his mind and he couldn't stop wanting to play it again. Says the concept has such massive potential and hopes it continues on in subsequent seasons
Other things we know - Bungie says the extraction success rate is 20%, and some Bungie employees haven't even been able to extract at all yet.
End game looking strong for this one, has me excited
Also, he says the various Factions are basically like a single player campaign and there's some really sick cinematics for each of them that introduces more lore
Maybe, but if people played it two years ago, I assume it's quite far into development already.Guess they're saving the 4th map reveal closer to launch after open beta or something (it's probably not even finished yet to be honest).

Let's be honest, the original had abominal designs as well. At the very least, the upcoming designs aren't any worse than the original:*Yuck*
overbusy as hell, colors all over the place, where do you see this "friggin sick" art?
Yeah, the same goes with Schedule I. If they don't get their visuals to at least look like Doom Eternal, no one is going to play it.Art look like it was randomly generated with missing texture assets. Its going to be the game's downfall.
I definitely like hearing (and seeing) this. One of the few scenes that was memorable to me about the gameplay reveal was watching Dr Lupo jump jet around that big crate and two shotting a player with that shotgun.Gameplay is slower than Destiny and closer to classical halo and is not intended as a movement shooter.

I can't quite picture this. The end game seems to be a puzzle / raid on Map 4.
So I assume that most of Map 4 is a big (high quality) Extraction map with lots of PvP. But somewhere on this map we're going to have to solve a puzzle to open a door...which leads us to a PvE raid? The raid will likely be relatively short (Bungie wants to make a new one every 3 months) and highly difficult so our gear goes into the incinerator which will help loot economy. They probably want us taking a crack at this raid X number of times until we beat it?
Is this what you're picturing too?
The 4th map sounds like the real hook and selling factor that should've been part of this entire media blow out. The only issue is that 1. it isn't complete and we won't see it until after launch, and 2. it's going to take a lot grinding and high tier resources to get to that stage in the game. I'd imagine that the map would be much smaller than the others too.It sounds to me like the ship contains a ton of secrets and you're involved in solving raid like puzzles to uncover new areas in the ship that lead to new loot to extract.
Just got back from the official reddit. Everyone over there is salty because of the game's reception and trying to blame "Asmongold watchers" for calling the game "woke."
I'm an Asmongold watcher. There are PLENTY of games that suck because they are woke. This isn't one of them.
This game sucks for an entirely different reason and a large quantity of different political views hate this game with no woke needed.
I'm not gonna let reddit piss me the fuck off, but.......I let reddit piss me off. I don't even hate this game but people are working on these nerves boy.

It's a weird thing.I don't think it's going to be short.

The ship may be so massive that you won't unlock all of it for season 1
In other words, the ship is an ever evolving map that gets further explored as the seasons progress, with new raids added over time
It's a weird thing.
The puzzles I'm picturing are annoying. Like I'll just YouTube the solution because I've never liked puzzles in games. Feels diametrically opposed to repeatable PvP but...maybe the puzzle is different than I'm picturing?
Unfortunately, the gameplay reveal cooled my excitement quite substantially. Not next-gen, not even current-gen graphics, small static maps, and too much of a hero-shooter element with supposedly toned-down player customization - all that was disappointing.
I've never played them. They always sounded fun. The only Destiny content I played were the standard campaigns and those never really worked for me.Have you ever played a Destiny raid?
I mean, if you think I'm wrong, I doubt I can say anything to change your mind - it looks like we are wearing different glasses. I think, my points were obvious. Add duffle bags instead of dead bodies, almost cell-shaded stylized characters, etc. It looks like Apex+Valorant+some mobile shooter smooshed together. The contrast between beautiful and brutal reveal+"Save The Date"+cinematic short trailers and the actual game is ridiculous.Didn't get that at all, are we watching the same footage?

I like that concept for Marathons end game though part of me is like..."But PvP bro"

As I said, I'm starting to cool off in my disappointment. I'll give it a chance.
I hope you're right. I remain doubtful though. The visual design is so much better than Apex or Valorant, I don't know what to tell you. It's a clear step up. The game looks clean, but also very detailed with great lighting and effects. Some of this is muddied by low quality capture footage, but the 4K footage looks stunning for an MP game. Pretties MP game I've seen, in fact. The reveal was CGI, but the actual game does a great job of capturing that aesthetic.
His girlfriend said that he is the only one who can have a raider arc with her.Men_In_Boxes changed his avatar after he caught his girlfriend with another dude?![]()
Parody post i guess...Yeah, the same goes with Schedule I. If they don't get their visuals to at least look like Doom Eternal, no one is going to play it.
I'm in the minority. I dig the aesthetic. It could be higher fidelity (texture work) like the trailers though.
The heroes killed any interest I had in the game.
They should have lived off the gunplay, loadout and gear.
Cooldowns/heroes create a certain playstyle I don't want to see in an extraction shooter. Even if you lose all your gear you still have these crutch abilities to lean on. Bleh.
These abilities would be more interesting as loadout items that cost gear space and had charges attached to them. Maybe 1 - 3 charges, again 3 costs more gear space than 1.
More interesting resource management that way for the 25 min raid.
You could use all 3 charges early on if you become careless and engage in gunfights.
Spamming them would also cause overheat and reduce the time activated for each subsequent charge. (maybe some high level loot attachment could mitigate some overheat)
Need 3 shield spams to get out of a high loot situation? It will cost you but the option is there.
There was a chance for this to have a unique identity. Looks like Apex Extraction to me.
Will still give it a try but I am disappointed to see it's a mash of other games before it.
I was hoping for it to feel like I was moving through the jungle in Predator (Arnie movie)Yup characters with specific abilities killed it for me as well, super lame and yes it looks more like a BR Apex style than an extraction shooter.
It's also way to quick imo, so there is no fear or anything. You're just zipping through these enviroments.
Just watched the Deep Stone Crypt raid, which is supposedly one of Destiny's better raids.Have you ever played a Destiny raid?
Can anyone tell me where proxy chat would fit in this game? There doesn't seem to be many safe area pockets that lead to entertaining proxy chat moments. Everything looks way too quick which is just going to lead to CoD tier proxy chat. It makes no sense in this game. For a game where the PR team and the director keep going on about leaving the match with a good story, not having proximity chat is a huge fucking miss. It also baffles me that, knowing this game will have puzzles and hidden secrets to uncover, they won't allow the community to engage with each other more within the game itself through a feature like proximity chat. Dumb choice. No excuses.
That first map they showed is roughly 1km x 0.6km and they put the chances of PVP encounters at 60% so I don't think it plays as fast as they want you to believe (for some reason). Can anyone tell me where proxy chat would fit in this game?
