The Berlin wall was only taken down in November 1989 though. Did your teacher make a habit of telling you utterly unremarkable facts or do I not understand the situation properly?

I think that he didn't take it down, but he did perform above it at new year celebrations in 1989 after deconstruction had begun.

But it is quite often pitched as him performing while the wall was being demolished.

They should have built a plasterboard section for him to drive KITT through, that would be an image nobody would have ever forgotten.

It´s a classic joke. No one beside David himself believes that he tore the wall down. He was by chance performing in Berlin during that time, so he and his glowing leather jacket took a promotion chance. "Looking for freedom" resonated with the German people for obvious reasons. Like The Scorpions with "Winds of change" (although this song is now said to be a CIA written song, lol).

For a young kid in the eighties, this stuff was ancient history. Back then the Wall was still standing obviously, but for us it was like saying he was alive during the French Revolution or something.

Now that I think about it, he might've told us about that right after the Wall fell, the dates seem to coincide.
