The battle animations in this game are just so damn good, the impact effects are just wild.
Also really love how the characters get bloody after taking damage and having it persist until you heal up. It just adds to the grittiness of it.

They really pull off the whole dire setting and feeling of desperation from the characters by adding these details.

I know they aren't the same type of game but this has been the Bloodborne moment for me this gen as far as just becoming completely obsessed with a game that ties its world, story and gameplay so flawlessly.

Yep, I get that they had a certain vision but it would have been nice to have a mini-map or even a normal map in the dungeons as well.
Poor design decision. I'm sure they thought that not having a mini-map would promote exploration, but it has the exact opposite effect, at least for me.

At least grant us the mini-map picto on a new game+ or something.

Or the Ubisoft picto that floods the screen with markers

Took me an hour but I finally beat the chromatic abbest, that pink ball in act 1. Got like 3 levels up lol.

Starting to get annoyed with this. The off-rhythm attacks are so hard to counter - 1, 2, 3 is easy, but when it goes 1, 2 ... 5 ,6 ...8, and they throw in gradient attacks and jump attacks too. Give me a break, I'm not playing Dark Souls here.

Just had a fight (Renoir) that embodied everything I find frustrating about the dodge/parry system. Beat him, but I did not enjoy it one bit, especially since I knew I wasn't actually going to win and he was obviously going to do a boss rug-pull.

So why does the first strike Lumina not work on my Lune? It's the only character that has it applied, yet it's always Maelle who's starting first and I don't know why. I need Lune to start first to burn all the enemies so Maelle can go knto Virtuous stance, but something doesn't work hownI want.
Turn order is simple in this game: it's decided by how you create your team.
With their system you can't have an empty team so you always have to keep the character you want as first alone to start your team.
If you want Lune first and Maelle second, get only Lune in team (get rid of everybody else) then select Maelle and a 3rd.

edit: at first I wasn't understanding why the character I was maining wasn't coming first but I was just removing one character and adding a new one so order was messed, you have to recreate the teams.

Yep the order for the first turn is determined by the order in which you've selected your party members. All turns after that (inclusive of the emeny's) are determined by the speed stat.

Forgot to mention :
Lune is my wife. Don't any of you dare to approach her.
You can have her, as long as I can have Maelle 😅

Thanks a lot, now turn order's just how I need it!

I was about to say the same thing.

So much of this game screams "if FROM Software made a turn based game". And I love it for it.

Imagine if From also started adding Story mode difficulty settings like this, shit would be so much better. :messenger_smirking:

Also, the bloom can get egregiously strong in some areas in the game.

Is there a good spoiler free clean up list?
I only know a missables list, here, from psnp:

  • · PROLOGUE
A PECULIAR ENCOUNTER – Music record after the mime in Lumiere

Apparently the first Record that can be found after defeating the Mime in Lumière during the prologue is missable. After passing the second Fair, you'll be one step away from the harbor. Facing the harbor, look to your right to find some dancers on a stage. To the right of the dancers lies a Mime in a corner. Interact with him to start a battle. After defeating him, you'll find your first Music Record.
[APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT MISSABLE AND THE RECORD CAN BE FOUND ALSO IN THE END GAME BUT I AM NOT SURE AND DID NOT FIND ANY CONFIRMATION]
    GOOD VIDEO GUIDE -

    · PROLOGUE
BUY THE OLD KEY NEEDED FOR A JOURNAL ENTRY LATER ON

Buy the old key from the vendor at the harbor (this key will be needed later to open a jail in Old Lumiere which there is a journal entry mandatory for the trophy Follow The Trail)
ALSO GET ALL THREE TOKENS TO BE ABLE TO BUY EVERYTHING - https://www.dualshockers.com/clair-obscur-expedition-33-how-to-get-all-festival-tokens/

    · BEGINNING OF THE GAME
PROFESSIONAL TROPHY - Defeat a boss without taking any damage

You can get this trophy whenever obviously, but apparently the easisest way to get is with the Chromatic Lancelier in Spring Meadows, first optional boss. – First attack has long wind up and second attack comes faster after first. If you mess up get killed and you will spawn were you killed the earlier flying enemies.
    WHERE TO FIND THE BOSS:
    GOOD STRATEGY VIDEO:

    · ACT 1
MISSABLE WEAPON – DURING THE ACT 1 TOURNAMENT YOU MUST SELECT MAELLE AS YOUR FIGHTER
[apparently not tied to any trophy but it is her best weapon and you should get it]

    · DURING ALL GAME
AIDING THE ENEMY – Help Nevron quests
    [NOT SURE IF TECHNICALLY MISSABLE]
it is better not to attack them at all but in theory you can kill them after their requests - [After completing all their request you need to talk to the Troubadour for the trophy. In general do every Nevron's side quests and do everything as ordered, no exceptions, even if they ask you to kill them.]
    All requests video:

    · DURING ALL GAME
    ALL MONOCO SKILLS
FEET COLLECTION TROPHY [NOT SURE IF MISSABLE]
It is helpful to have Monoco in your squad as soon as you unlock him, in order to get Monoco Skills when you defeat mobs.
The only missable skill is related to the boss Grosse Tête. It can be found at 2 different location: Flying Manor and on the map in the Coastal Cave
[Apparently this boss is not missable as it should respawn in the left most wing (when you come from the entrance of the dungeon) of the Endless tower in a lower area (have to glide a rope down).]
LINK to guide to all Monoco Skills: https://www.dualshockers.com/clair-obscur-expedition-33-all-monoco-skill-locations/
  • · ACT 2
AFTER FIRST AXOM KILL AT THE CAMP
At the camp, choose the option to "Check on the others" and you will receive "Lettre a Maelle"

    · NEAR END GAME
    LEVEL 7 RELATIONSHIP WITH MAELLE
    - At the end of the game you can get the level 7 relationship with Maelle after completing her side quest.
Do not lie to her when she asks you a question (the True answer is clearly written) and you will get the trophy.

Finished the story at around 37 hours. That includes some of the optional areas and bosses but not nearly all of them. This game fucking rules man. I'm not sure the last time a game's gameplay, story, and characters all clicked for me so well. And the MUSIC! It's so damn good. When I came across the initial reveal trailer I thought it looked interesting. Never did I think I'd enjoy it as much as I did, though. I've got small nitpicks but the good so easily outweighs them. The people at Sandfall Interactive should be incredibly proud of what they've created. I can't wait to go do the extra areas and bosses.

Says something when the only common nitpick is that the lip sync is off lol. Like the most unimportant thing just because you have to put something on the minus list

seems much shorter than i'm used to in my jrpgs from other people's time completions. but looking forward to a full 80 hour game on their next project.
I don't need a game to be 80 hours. I played Persona 3 Reload and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance last year and I was so burned out after spending 100+ hours in both of those. There's a lot to be said for games which don't overstay their welcomes

FFVII Remake Trilogy is so fucking bloated, why does Square Enix need 300 hours across 3 games to retell a story that only took 40 hours originally in OG FFVII?

Because money. And because nobody told them that most people who played FF7 originally are now full grown adults with responsibilities who can get an hour a day of gaming, at most, if they're lucky.

As refined as the game's presentation is otherwise .. there's just something real amateur hour about the giant bold face font saying "RELATIONSHIP 2"
Does this actually do anything. Not sure if I missed some mini-turorial but I have no idea if increased relationship is worth anything.

Man, I don't see anything dethroning this for my GOTY. I can't stop thinking about this game.

The pictos system and how it basically dump a tsunami of them on you to find a playstyle

The dialogues, the facial expressions (wow, not going for super realism but they are top tier), the sekiro twitch parries/dodge

The music

Gustave's funeral man, what a gut punch. I'm not crying, I've just been chopping onions.

OMG i had no idea you can turn in color of lumina to a gestral in gestral village to get free luminous points. i just got 71 points because i was holding on to so many.

The subtle facial expressions are top notch. There is a lot of character development expressed simply with how their expressions subtly change throughout the game. It also means the dialogue can be less pronounced than usual.

Where is that Gestral exactly?

From the entrance you will see the chief's house. Go left and you will find a bunch of Gestrals who look like shopkeepers. Talk to the fat one.

Yeah, that's the ideal option.

I have a little more: UI, character animations, some moments in the story like Gustavo's suicidal scene. A lot of interactions in Lumier before the gommage are pretty weak. But overall, it's still a masterpiece for me.

Does the game like to throw curve balls?

Because i just watched a cinematic that higly hint to something but it is way too predictable and from what people said about the clifchanger at the end of act1, it can't be it...

the scene where the big nevron attack the group because gustave picked the rose and then maelle trying to touch the monster and saying the he look familiar...i hope the nevron is not who i think she is and the surprise is that insead of dying that people just turn into nevrons during the gommage, it would be way too predictable to caught so many people by surprise

Also, whoever coded the beach parkour minigame should feel bad about himself :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I love how unique all the characters play differently. I've just got the 4th character. I'm already invested in the first 3 mechanically though so not sure if I want to use. Although Gustav seems the most basic so maybe get rid of him.

Can anyone give me a figure for how long this game is? I hope it's 50 hours, the longer the better .
Considering characters: Just you wait 👀

This game is very special. Was absolutely glued to it last night.

It's just a really good game. Reminds me of the feelings I had playing Mass Effect 2. No bullshit open world bollox. Just an incredible game!

Do you people defeated the mime and the big boy in the water level or you returned later.
I barely do any damage to the mime but big boy seems feasible, except for the second attack in his combo, i can't even tell when he actually hit the character...
Mime is easier to parry but i do barely any damaga whatsoever, playing on hard.
Yeah haha I did wonder why most of his skill tree locked.
Still unsure about Lune she feels very weak to everyone else.
I only have 3 charas for now and lune is the strongest with maelle being the weakest, her stance stuff for now doesn't have much in term of synergies with the others.

Gotta break the mime bro. Use the overcharge maxed out and ruin that bitch,

Do i have to use that specific attack or i can just spam thunder magic?

Was there like something that tells you to use a specific attack that i missed or it is just a matter of try and repeat?

Was just about to impulse buy this through all of the positivity and for the fact that the combat actually looks like a lot of fun. Fucking thing is out of stock everywhere on PS5 lol. It must be a sign!

To break? It's skill dependent. Other characters also have break skills. If you read the description of the skill it will tell you if it can break.

There's a little gold bar below the health bar that fills as you keep dealing damage to the enemy. Once it's full you can then use i.e overcharge to afflict break.

Also, even if the bar isn't full you can still cause break with a skill, i.e the repeated lighting attacks from overcharge will fill the rest of the bar and then cause break.

Just dropping in to say,a lot of developers still have no idea how important music is to a game. It can make a decent experience into an amazing one with just the music. What would the modern Doom games be without Mick? Would anyone talk much about them as much? Nope. Or Hotline Miami which isn't really that amazing gameplay wise but its soundtrack elevates it to 11, and so many more examples. Can you imagine Persona 5 without that banger soundtrack and instead some generic Dragon Quest trash? It would be horrible. Im glad the Clair team knew this because more than half the time Im more excited to hear the combat music than actually fighting. That being said, im outta here till I finish it.

Lol fuck me, i thought breaking was like literally breaking him, i'm playing with italians subs and the break mechanic is called strappo (tear) so i didn't connected the 2 things.
