You know there's an RE4 OT right OP?

It is a great game though. Not as good as the original, but damn good.

Best RE Engine Resident Evil game and better than the OG.

RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake could have been better and the best had they made the A/B more different and without repeat bosses and more exclusive locations for Leon and Claire to explore in RE2R. More city explorable section and humanoid Nemesis encounters and some extra locations with Jill. RE3 Remake had the most potential.

Chrono trigger, ffx, breath of fire 2, mega man X and mega man legends, lost odyssey, ff9, battle ogre 64, super mario 64, banjo kazooie etc etc blow it away.

Still prefer the original overall for various reasons but on its own terms the RE4 Remake is still a stellar game. They expanded on some aspects really well like the shooting gallery and the last third of the game on the island was waaay better.

I really hope Resident Evil 5 will get the same treatment next but perhaps tilted more towards the single player game it was originally meant to be.

Separate Ways is absolute trash as is Ada's voice actress in this remake. Level design improvements do not make up for characterization shortfalls. More in-depth parry mechanics do not make up for less effective combat maneuvers and input delay. Only thing that is undeniably better is Mercenaries if you are into that.

REmake is still the best. They should finally make a RE1 remake using this latest RE engine though. The Spencer mansion will always be the best setting for horror games.

RE1 also has no sewers/caves/mines, which is another reason it's the best. These areas are always filler because of how easy they are to make (same texture/assets all over the place, no furnitures, no interesting visual designs, no nothing) and RE4 Remake has them all.

great thread

one of the best games of all fucking time

Its great and I also prefer mercs to the original. But Remake didn't have the same magic the original had in 2004/5. Thats not entirely the games fault though. Its hard to create something we haven't seen before.

It's my first thread jeez.
You can always add substance to it and gives people here a reason to discuss. Like, talk about your favorite parts, add pictures, ask questions etc..

I've only started RE4 remake on PSVR2 and it seems to be incredible. But at that point I think I prefer Village to 4! Again, these game must be played in VR. Imo

I went through a good portion of the series on Steam last summer, some for the first time and you know what.....I agree. REmake still stands out, even with the older control scheme and cameras. I also played to completion RE0, Revelations 1 and 2, 2 and 3 remakes, 7, and dipped into 5 and 6. Hoping to go through Village and RE4 REmake this year.

Great game.

And this is coming from someone who thought the second game remake was very overrated with the third being decent at best.

REmake completely replaces the original RE1 for me
It does for a lot of people, and for a time it did for me too. But then I replayed the original and remembered all the little things that the remake didn't have or do and realised as an overall package I prefer it.

that's cool, I still think the OG has some elements I and some people may prefer, like the funny dialogue and it can be argued that having to burn down enemies slows down the pacing quite a bit. Some folks also do not care about Lisa Trevor and it's inclusion. For me at least I appreciate most of the new stuff and think the remake is the original vision in it's completion more so than the OG.

REMake2 is probably my favourite Resident Evil, but honestly, I didn't really like the RE4 Remake. It lacked any of the charm of the original and everything was played down, leaving all of the big moments feeling limp, as if Capcom was just going through the motions. Ada Wong, in particular, was really terrible. The actress felt like she just did NOT want to be there.

Is one of the best games of all time.

I never played the original so I guess that's why I think it's one of the best of all-time.
Now go play the original. It is still extremely good.

My favorite remake addition was the lake open world chapter. That was a lot of fun.

I will never trust anyone's opinion who says RE4R isn't a great game. It replaces the OG for me. That's not to say that I don't like the OG. The OG is one of my favorite games ever. But I see no reason to go back and play. Aside from Saddler being worse, and Ada having a worse VA, I find the remake to be an improvement in every single way.

I still need to finish it, but I so far it has been great. Mercenaries is definitely better and way more fun. The gameplay feels great, I like the changes they made. It feels modern without taking away the tension of the OG.

But the aiming without the laser dot just feels off, lol. It was staple of 4. And the more serious tone falls compleyely flat. Enjoyed the cheese of the OG way more. Leon is better when he is funny.

If you know what you are doing and use things like Striker exploit you can really mess with physics and game logic for fun. You can also reexperience a better narrative.

The most basic gameplay elements are a big step backwards for me. The 2R gameplay worked for 2R, but the enemies are so much more mobile here. You lose out because of that.

The game can and will wombo combo you with no option but to die.

The awful FOV zoom in when you aim that further reduces your control over a situation by taking away view space when enemies can easily come from all angles.

Enemies barely registering shots to the face half the time (when your shots actually land).

Just a few bits off the top of my head that are regressions from the original.

The game takes itself too seriously and loses the charm in the process.

The game isn't bad and I got my money's worth. But I don't think it's as good as everyone hypes about.
In every language except English maybe.
In fairness I think the DLC VA in English was better than the main game. Whether that's from taking criticism on board or because Ada is largely alone and therefore putting on a show is anyone's guess, but credit where it's due
