It was a very good game. I felt the Separate Ways (Remake) was much better and, in a way, realistic than the original version.
The Actress was inexperienced and didn't get the proper voice direction. And was equally awful in both base game and DLC. So I just use JP voice. In fairness I think the DLC VA in English was better than the main game. Whether that's from taking criticism on board or because Ada is largely alone and therefore putting on a show is anyone's guess, but credit where it's due
I know people were expecting her to sound sexy and cheesy like in the previous games and thought the new actress sounded emotionless in the remake, but I really think she did a great job in the DLC. Much more natural and cool, imo.In every language except English maybe.
If you know what you are doing and use things like Striker exploit you can really mess with physics and game logic for fun. You can also reexperience a better narrative.
Well, it's a crappy one. If you are going to create a new thread, have something meaningful to say or put some sort of effort into it.It's my first thread jeez.
You mean the remake of the first Resident Evil?Remake was one of the rare instances where despite cut content, the game as a whole is significantly improved in practically every way since the original.
And it's elevated even further on PSVR2. In fact, the VR version is probably the singular greatest gaming experience available to date... just wish there was a pro patch.

You know there's an RE4 OT right OP?
It is a great game though. Not as good as the original, but damn good.
That's still an opinion tho a lot of people not as blinded by nostalgia prefer the remakeIt's a true testament to how good the base game is, if the remake (which had all the advantages of coming out 15+ years later) still isn't as good.

There is a Striker charm that you can attach to your suitcase that ups movement by 10% or something. It is a random drop from gumball machine at the shooting range.First I really wish Leon would be maybe even 5% more light on his feet. There's this jarring disconnect for me between the character model and his absurdly sluggish and heavy movement. He feels so out of shape and...fat? Just a c-hair lighter would've been fine to me but the way it is is always something I have to actively get over every time.
I find the Remake easier as many sub bosses can be wasted with a knife QTE following a flashbang drop and the level design creates better camping spots. I also find it worse as Leon is slow on the draw, moves at a casual pace, and precise shots at weak points tend to do nothing more often than having an effect. The issue I with the OG today is the gameplay basically boils down to Headshot -> Melee -> Headshot -> Melee -> Headshot -> Melee. In addition to that there's a lot of actions you can perform that generates i-frames, making it easy to avoid damage. If you know what you're doing, you can really trivialize the game.
That's not the case with RE4R. Enemies are far more dangerous, and you can't always rely on a headshot to stun an enemy and kick a whole group of them 10 feet away from you. The amount of ways the enemy can attack you, their overall toughness, the increased enemy count, and the physics of the game allow for much more chaotic battles, where a whole lot of things can happen. Some people just don't want to admit this, but the gameplay of the Remake is simply better than the OG. You can make an argument that for it's time, OG RE4 was the more groundbreaking game. But it's also a 20+ year old game, and it shouldn't be considered blasphemy that a remake that comes out two decades later does it better.
I'm not trashing the OG. I think it's one of the best games ever made. It's just hard to go back to now that the Remake exists.
I feel similarly about it. Village is like an awkwardly assembled puzzle with pieces from better entries. The RE4 nostalgia is especially weak because it just makes me miss how good that game feels to play. I don't know, I really tried and even beat it twice but I just don't like that game. It also has a spectacularly shitty ending stretch.Top tier remake of a top tier game. I hope this reminded Capcom how to make hot fire. I got all jazzed for RE after I played and went back and replayed 6 (had a fucking blast) and Village. Something about Village was really off for me on the second playthrough. Almost felt like I was in an amusement park or some uncanny valley nonsense. The locations didn't feel grounded and the enemies were disconnected from it. Maybe it was art design, the way it's rendered or the gameplay loop. Something is just off. I like it more than most people my first time. Still don't think it's bad. Just weird. Maybe that'll age into a good thing.
I've played through it a few times but admittedly never fucked with the shooting range and gumball thing TOO much. I got a couple things but I never care about collectibles and assumed the time investment wasn't worth it. Will check this out...There is a Striker charm that you can attach to your suitcase that ups movement by 10% or something. It is a random drop from gumball machine at the shooting range.

It is worth it if you want to craft specific ammo type or get good prices or resale value at the merchant. The Striker charm is one of a kind treat though. Then I bought the DLC and that was some of the worst RE shit I've ever played. That whole doll stealth section thing felt like they completely lost the plot.
Happened something completely different to me, played the base game of Village and liked it (on steam), played the DLC then and couldn't finish it. Then I tried to replay Village and the flaws start to be more apparent to me in my 2nd playthrough and now it's one of my least liked games in the franchise.Played RE8 for the 1st time on an XSX when it came out and...I just found it to be OK.
Played for a 2nd time 2 years later on the PS5 with the DLC (3rd person camera) and...I enjoyed it way, way more, solid 8.5/10.
Have to agree though on the RE4 nostalgia bit, they did lean way too much on it...
Anyway, while 8 will never reach the highs of 4, playing it with a 3rd person camera really elevated the whole experienece for me to the point of actually putting it in my top 5 REs.
As for the Rose DLC...it was weird indeed but it was so tense that I ended up enjoying it.

The only true remake remains the first one. Everything after had missing content, even 4.
RE1R not only kept everything, but expanded on it.
RE2R just mixed A/B Scenario's together and called it a day.
RE3R fucked the whole beginning of the game, no proper set up for nemesis, just thrown at you at the beginning.
RE4R doesn't have the same charisma like the og, I prefer the updated gameplay but everything else is not as good, especially the chit chat between Leon and his new friends.
Agree on RE2 - looking back it's kinda wild how little they did with the location and the separate routes.Best RE Engine Resident Evil game and better than the OG.
RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake could have been better and the best had they made the A/B more different and without repeat bosses and more exclusive locations for Leon and Claire to explore in RE2R. More city explorable section and humanoid Nemesis encounters and some extra locations with Jill. RE3 Remake had the most potential.
RE1R discarded the dialogue with personality for blandness and made zombie disposal a chore instead of being cathartic. The only true remake remains the first one. Everything after had missing content, even 4.

RE3R has more replay value and better mechanics than all the other Resident Evils. RE2R is mid. RE3: Nemesis is dogshit that was a rip-off at bargain bin prices. Even RE Survivor is a better piece of entertainment than that slop. I have no idea why people place it on a pedestal. It was garbage then and is even more garbage by today's standards.I think RE3R is the only remake that is undisputably worse than the original. That was clearly Capcom rushing and undercooked game out the door to capitalize on RE2R's success.

They fixed Nemesis in the Remake to be a source of tension and element of progression/change instead of being an obnoxious impediment that needs to be kited around for the nth time while running to the other side of the city past multiple loading screens for the nth time. The enemies in the remake are actually very arcadey. If one has a mastery of mechanics and understanding of enemy patterns even a knife/grenade run is exhilarating fun. Counter-punching hunters and evading to do critical knife damage never gets old. Mercenaries is junk that is played for a few hours at most. Better to do another run through RE3R in that time instead of mucking around in that filler. The mediocre level design in this remake is lightyears beyond the subpar level design of the original and convoluted design of RE2R. It even manages to have a consistent flow without any major impediments.Because it's a good game, and it's laughable to think RE3R has the most replay value of the series. The game is super short, there's hardly any dynamic strategy and AI to how enemies attack you, Nemesis is completely scripted, and the level design is completely mediocre. They absolutely butchered Nemesis, gutted an enormous chunk from the original, cut out The Mercenaries, and charged a 4 hour game at $60.
Masterclass in how to make an interesting premise mundane. It even makes guns feel weak and makes Chris and Jill move around like they have a stick up their butt. I am sure that you enjoy taking a flask/lighter in/out of the very limited player inventory and love to find gas canisters at the furthest points of the mansion and run back to them for refills as well as keeping track of every body you were not lucky enough to get a headshot on but I sure as hell do not. I am even certain that you enjoy Lisa constantly saying hello in the middle of trying to do something but I have places to be. I was more nervous about the rabid dogs than the dipshit zombies. In fact, I would often leave them around to avoid dealing with burning their bodies as I knew hunters would make quick work of most of them once I got far enough. Even beyond that I could have done without the added backtracking in the remake. Only thing I would credit REmake with is making the underground fish tank area cool. And for the record, REmake is still to this day a masterclass of Survival Horror, and completely shits on the Original in every way imaginable. There was no personality to the dialogue, it was just awful voice acting and writing, to the point where it became a meme because of how hilariously bad it was. And in REmake, Zombie disposal was not a chore. That game made Zombies more threatening than any other entry in the series because of how little ammo there was, and because of the threat of Crimson Heads. At the time it actually did this job in making the player nervous about what was around the corner.
I hate you and everything you stand for. I'm going to play 3 today and enjoy every second of its excellent mix of soundtrack, atmosphere, gameplay, and puzzles. Normally I would do that anyway, but I'm going to savour it even more just to spite you. I'm even going to throw in how wonderful it is that it doesn't have a shitty cabin fight copy paste thrown in for no damn reason.RE3R has more replay value and better mechanics than all the other Resident Evils. It really is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. I'm praying they have this team on the next mainline entry.
Just seeing this thread makes me want to go start a new playthrough.
A shit eating grin is appropriate considering what you are getting joy out of consuming. There is no cabin fight in RE3R but there is a shooting gallery in a segment at the reception area of the hospital. Great place to let loose and have a little fun given the wealth of ammo stashed there.I hate you and everything you stand for.
