Apple has blocked Fortnite from being released for iOS

At end of the day Epic needs Apple far, far more than Apple needs Fortnite.

Epic is choosing not to play by Apple's rules because they think they deserve special treatment. They don't. This is the result.

I think it's funny Apple keeps blocking them. At the end of the day they are both losing potential money because of it
the pettiness will never stop and tbh i'm here for it, mostly because i couldn't give 2 fucks if fortnite is on iOS

Epic made Apple open their ecosystem (which Apple very much did not want to do) through the courts and legal action, of course they're going to fight them on every technicality and every possible avenue.

you don't bite the hand that feeds you then ask them to serve dinner

Good job Apple.
I hate Apple but they are allowed to have their closed eco system.
Epic tried to force Apple trough court and now Apple is going to make it as painful as possible for Epic to release their game again.

As someone who hates Apple, I approve of Apple doing this. I approve of any decisions from Apple that might deter people from using their junk.

Fuck Tim Apple.

Fuck Tim Appled.

🤔

Also fuck adamsapple adamsapple just because it goes with the theme. :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I'm only pissed about about this because epic delayed the general grievous update because of this

Fuck you epic for hyper-fixating on apple and fuck you apple for being a petty piece of shit.

Apple does have the right (baked into their developer agreements, app store agreements, and business relationship agreements) to reject any product submission for any reason and they don't even have to give you a reason why. All the publishing marketplaces do the same thing.

It's their toy so you play with it they way they want you to play with it or not at all.

What? This is the result of a judges decision that Apple can't play by their own anti-competitive rules. A decision that they tried to subvert which involved an Apple exec lying under oath. That opened up for Fortnite returning to iOS and Apple are now trying to subvert the ruling by just refusing app approval.

the PR you're losing over this.
....are they though? no one outside of gaming gives even half a fuck about this, and the net impact on iphone sales is probably a rounding error to Apple

the financial impact of allowing companies to skirt their 30% app store cut is much, much, much larger

It's not the PR its the additional judicial scrutiny. They are risking losing more control of their own store if they keep pushing this.

good if the kids want their crack get an android phone.
Or a copy of Epic Survival Battle Royale 3D

Them kids aren't going to like it! lololololo

Apple has been shit since Jobs passed. Epic has been shit since they stopped making unreal tournament. Well before the fortnite craze.

Didn't this already happen?

they literally aren't... at least by EU law... like... what?

Apple will probably be fined for this again btw. lol.
I really don't care if they will be fined or not, maybe Epic has to take them to court again and it will take another year.
It's just fun to watch them fight

The butthurt of Apple is really palpable. Just fucking take the L, the PR you're losing over this isn't worth it.
I stand with Apple. This is not about Fortnite or Epic. It's about Tencent, which controls Epic, trying to force Apple to allow the Tencent appstore on the iPhone in China.

Turns out Epic needlessly deleted iPhone Fortnite in Europe. Just so they can cry foul at Apple.

I suspect that is due to the contract they have for licensing SW copyrighted materials from Disney. The contract probably specifies the regions as a collective and without being able to sell to Apple US customers Epic probably can't comply with their side of the contract with Disney.

Updated: The Verge article...

However, according to Apple, that isn't its doing.
"We asked that Epic Sweden resubmit the app update without including the US storefront of the App Store so as not to impact Fortnite in other geographies," Apple spokesperson Olivia Dalton tells The Verge. "We did not take any action to remove the live version of Fortnite from alternative distribution marketplaces."
