According to a Japanese source, looks like only 1.2 Million of Switch 2 consoles are going to be available day one in Japan, take into consideration that Nintendo direct sales preorders already surpassed 2 millions and lotteries preorders are at full capacity with thousands of people in line.

I already have mine locked in, I had to pay almost $750 for the MK Bundle.

We are in the same boat… At least i can buy online in US + A international Courier. So probably around $600.

To put it into perspective, for a console launch in June, in one country, to have 1.2 MILLION consoles that are literally going to be purchased in one 24 hour period is pretty insane. 1.2 mil is a large number for a non-traditional time of year console launch, only taking into account day one sales. Of course the Switch 2 sales will be front-loaded too, unlike original Switch, as so many of us are going to want to upgrade from 1 to 2 in short order, to play our existing libraries on the shiny new machine that runs everything better and has a bigger and better screen, and faster loading, etc. launch sales will die down.

It'll be fine, we'll all get one, and I doubt we'll be waiting long.

I remember it being less than 3 million worldwide in March 2017. But I might be mid-remembering. It was a normally light sales period for consoles and games so it was actually considered a large number at the time, for launch month.

Edit: Just looked it up… it was just under 3 million sales worldwide in March 2017, which was considered very successful for the time. I believe it was essentially 100% sell-through or close to it.

1.2 million for launch day is more than double what was available in Japan and what the original Switch sold in Japan in all of March 2017. (It released March 3rd).

Context matters.

And even then there's going be thousands and thousands of extremely upset/disappointed gamers in Japan come June 5th.

Nintendo will basically sell as many as they can produce this year. Esp once more heavy hitters start getting announced/released.

It does sound like the story of shipping as many as possible to the US before the tariffs go through is pretty accurate. Several stores Ive gone to seem to be expecting anywhere between 50-150 switch 2's.

Which to me is insanely crazy, comparatively I remember stores BARELY getting around 20 ps5's at launch back in 2020

seems like a lot idk...
that's half as much as the PS5 sold worldwide in its launch day.

so if they have that many for Japan alone, I wonder how many they have worldwide
