Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Okay yesterday I got a bit of a reality check. I was watching the CL Final with a relative and he brought up wanting a Switch 2. Turns out the price of the console and especially the games was enough to make him reconsider.

I ended up in line for almost 3 hours during work back in april . Oops!
I've never understood why American buildings look like medieval forts.

the issue with Dpad impressions is that most people these days don't really play Dpad heavy titles.
many people play everything on the analog stick as well.

so it's really hard trusting any hands-on impressions when people exist that would play MegaMan X on an anlog stick, and those same people might be the ones that think it felt "good".

has any of them ever used an Xbox One Dpad? have they used a Series X dpad? do they know the difference between them even?
have they used a Razer Wolverine V3 dpad? do they know the difference between the old and the new 8bitdo dpads?

without knowing any of that about someone, I can't really evaluate how trustworthy their impressions are.

Yeah, when someone says they feel no difference in the dpad, I have no idea whether they even detected an issue with the current one. I'll be reading up on gaffer impressions with great interest.

Even if they fix the controller, I'm not even that excited about rewarding them with an additional controller purchase after they screwed me over on the last one. Since it has other improvements like a headphone jack, I will eventually get one of the dpad isn't botched.

I can use the Wii U pro on hacked Switch. It has so many dpad friendly games it's a massive fail that I have to do this and don't want to throw you money on additional controllers because of a dumb downgrade from the last controller.

The gold standard test is firing up puyo puyo Tetris. If you inadvertently drop a piece by inputting down by mistake by the end of the session, congrats your dpad sucks and your new expensive controller can't even play Tetris as well as an old ass game boy.

I know most people here dont care for this this game but very excited to Bravely remaster.

The hand drawn town gonna look gorgeous with higher resolution on big screen.

Huge fan, and I'd 100% get it if the physical game was on the cartridge. It being game key only puts it in a weird spot for me. It's like I'd rather it have been digital only, because then I could at least justify to myself buying it as a version that is ephemeral. So, I think I'll pass on it even though I love the series. If they produce a real physical version of it down the line, I'll pick that up.

I am super stoked they've got the GameCube on the expansion pass. Nearly all of their important systems all under one roof.

I'd bet on Dreamcast appearing at some point.

I wouldn't bet on 3DO or Jaguar appearing as nothing on those systems deserves a Nintendo Seal of Quality.

I've still got a Switch 1 voucher but they don't have a Metroid Prime 4 release date to use it on. There better be a direct this month if only for that reason.

same, gonna use my voucher and then upgrade. If needed, they didn't say if it's included in the membership.

I'm still hoping for a launch day shadow drop.

If we get both GC and DC on this thing it's over boys. My last console and all else is PC.

Very nearly got there with Switch 1 running DC overclocked but it can't handle GC which is a huge gap. Not good enough. thisclosetogreatness.jpeg

Okay, Aramex has a label, but they haven't received the shipment from Nintendo yet.

These preorder cancellations are ramping up anxiety about actually getting the thing. Can't we just be excited for sure thing?

I wonder if the walmart cancelations are also location based. My wife got her preorder the day after open and Walmart is prepping a shipping label. So it might be so many units to a certain area.

So what're y'all expecting to see from the next Animal Crossing? I hope they go back to the old formula where it felt like each character had a lot more unique dialogue and leave the whole crafting stuff behind. I felt far more immersed in Wild World than in New Horizons which lost its luster once I had built what I wanted. Perhaps if they want to do something new they could put in little stories or adventures instead. Like, little quests that fit the Animal Crossing-style. Or farming mechanics a la Stardew Valley. Could be cool if there's some caves to explore. I don't know, anything but more of crafting and remodeling the whole island.

Sounds like you actually just want to play Fantasy Life :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I personally hope the double down on the New Horizons formula, but add even MORE things you can craft, a bigger island, more fish / bugs / fossil / art to collect, etc. I like the idea of having more unique dialog for the characters though. My wife's #1 requested feature would be the ability to start multiple islands with the same character. She has restarted the game 3 times now just so that she could do different town layouts and get new villagers, but each time she's used a spare Switch as a "donor" to keep her old island and ferry items back and forth lol

Alright, after being worried for the past month that Walmart was going to cancel me, I think I'm finally in the clear. They just texted me and sent through the official charge on my credit card.

I'm not the biggest mk fan but I'm excited about donkey Kong.

What's the game everyones excited about in the launch window? I might buy civ 7 and the upgrade pack but I'm not too excited about what's coming out. I'll probably buy a few used switch games on launch like fe 3 houses

I hope they make the multiplayer a LOT more interactive. It was an absolute ballache to play with the kids and them not be able to move the 'story' along or do pretty much anything other than fish.

Same as going online with trusted friends and being able to place stuff or make a house on their island your own.

It would be really nice if they had a Donkey Kong Bonanza demo on release day. That would be great.

I am hoping there are some Switch 2 demos.

MK and DK. The big third party game everyone is looking at is Cyberpunk. Because it's a barometer of what the system is capable of, and actually comes on the cart. But it's only new to Nintendo exclusive people which is dubious.

I get it, some people don't like MK. And without DK, the launch "window" would be too anemic. But MK is a multiplayer game that represents everything Nintendo. I'll be playing it with other Switch 2 early adopters both local and online. Including one of my friends who moved out of the country last year and is eager for the game chat feature. I don't expect it to work that great, especially across the world, but it's the thought and fun that counts.

So as far as launch day and after....are online sites (best buy, etc...) going to have units available outside of the preorders? I know theyll have some on launch day at physical stores but im not feeling the need to go deal with that, so im looking at online for launch day and onward. Do we have any sense if availability is going to be a problem for months in the US since Nintendo clearly didnt make enough quantity for preorders?

All we know at this point is that yes, eventually, anyone who wants one will be able to buy one. How quickly that day comes is still one of life's great mysteries we have yet to unravel as we all travel forward in time together.

Only around three days to go. The best thing is we spent more time waiting for the Switch 2 to be announced. Than the actual reveal and release day. This seems to have come around in no time at all. :)

yea, looking forward to this, GC library was small but had some gems and childhood memories.
that being said, probably gonna wait till holiday or early 2026 to pick on up, I'm not really a racing game fan, so Mario Kart isn't drawing me in.

Walmart finally charged me as of this morning after sending an alert that it was "in preparation" yesterday. I received another alert this morning, sometime after or simultaneous to the charge being made. Seems to be moving along with no issue.. so far.

Fantasy Life hasn't pulled me back in since I finished the main quest and I think that has a lot to do with it having an achievable "end point" rather than being more free form. I played Animal Crossing until late last year when I completed my perfect villager set (and I did cheat that by purchasing a Raymond Amiibo card). I hope the next Animal Crossing has more terraforming options like being able to define entry and exit points for rivers and being able to add a bit of land mass. I had this neat little peninsula on my island that was a tad too small to put a home and it would have been the perfect ocean view spot for my residence.

Anyone who's anyone has NSO+
I don't think NSO+ gets the credit it deserves...for $50 a year you get 7 classic consoles (and handhelds) and dozens of classic games, PLUS several original games like F-Zero 99 AND "free" Upgrades like the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster course pack, Splatoon 2 campaign and now 2 Zelda Upgrades and their new content...again, for $50 a year.

To me, that's easily more value than Sony's equivalent cheapest service offering.

Whatever you do, don't call their customer service to check up on your order, unless you want it accidentally cancelled by them. I saw something like that happen on reddit, but it might have been best buy, I don't know all your yankee cowboys' stores you got over there.

Is that Orioto's painting? Looks like his style, I've still got a Donkey Kong Country 1 painting from him, absolutely gorgeous. This one too.

the classic games only seem enticing if you don't already have superior emulators or recomps on every device you own...

can you play Mario Sunshine at 60fps and widescreen through that service? nope...
can you play Mario 64 at 60fps + widescreen? nope... can you play OoT at 60fps + widescreen?

do you have an online community for classic games with achievements? nope...

guess where you can get all of this? on PC, Android, Xbox dev mode.

And probably at least 90% of the audience doesn't. I know I don't have the time, energy, or inclination to fuck around with emulation when the alternative is to spend five seconds undocking my Switch and another 10 opening an app. These are games that I'm going to play in quick bursts to get a hit of nostalgia or mindlessly plug away at with a YouTube video in the background. The Switch Online service is perfect for that.

Everything looks less enticing if you're already stealing it...I'm sure you could say the same thing about every single Xbox classic game or PS game Sony and MS also offer if you're already pirating them..

I don't know why people keep referencing switch 2 sales metrics as if it's of any concern to me. I'm only discussing my opinion on the matter and the success of the switch 2 has nothing to do with me. As long as I get value from my purchase, that's all that matters.

As for what follows, who knows. All I can say for certain is that there's usually a delay between an action and the consequences of said action. None of that is my problem. I don't work at Nintendo.

How long do we need to wait to find out the consequences of launching with only one next gen game? I guess it wouldn't come around to bite them in the ass until after more games come out? Other local experts have speculated 18 months.

We could ask Xbox for their insight on this, but they never launched with a next gen game, only unfinished cross gen stuff. So I guess we are in uncharted territory now, and just have to find out.

Let me apologize in advance for my reply. I know there should be no discussion in a public forum about your assertions on the topics you raise that are of no concern to you. Please understand

it's not about the price, it's about Nintendo's service literally being a worse product than Retroarch and Dolphin.

Nintendo's emulation is often worse than that of PC Emulators.

pay to play Mario 64 at 30fps... or install the PC recomp and run it at 60+ fps and widescreen?
pay for Nintendo's crappy compilation... or play Mario Sunshine at 60fps through Dolphin?
