Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Art style is obviously super cartoony so it's hard to judge based on this trailer, but I'd say don't expect anything mindblowing.

Overall it looks kind of bland though.

The characters have that PS1 era pre rendered fmv look. Can't believe anyone ia hyping up this game's visuals.
bit of a heperbole haha but yes

Hey at least it will have proper reflections in the mirrors and on glas :messenger_grinning_sweat:
that , and the hero lighting shown during the driving part will most certainly and definitely be present in the actual gameplay. very much like the physics-based tie of Hitman absolution
if you remove the hero lighting from that scene, it is a genuinely last-gen looking shot, and we had RDR2 and TLOU last gen

I still hope they prove us wrong tomorrow

I just feel like this will be already ten years outdated when it comes out. There is absolutely nothing I would not have seen already before.
the same feeling I got from Pragmata last night
when it was first shown off, it looked great, now it is not even close to proper current-gen standards.
or Cyberpunk [ first announced in 2000 freaking 13] had amazing reload animations. then CODMW2019 came along and it had mindblowing gun and mele animations

they naively think they the audience has all the time and the patience in the world
by the time it came out I had actually grown disinterested to the entire genre , I had become a completely different gamer by then

I agree with you on most of your takes, but bond looked very meh visually imo.
This isnt the first time i've gone against the grain. People here were down on Alan Wake 2, Avatar, Silent Hill 2, AC shadows, but came around at the end. I think the same thing will happen with this game.

The lighting is going to stand out and the levels are jam packed with details. i love the look of the game too. I dont mind the cartoony look at al. the cinematography is still there. that shot of fireworks going off behind him is stuff id expect from sony first party.
Amazing? With those dogshit Characters models?
lol you and character models. look at everything else.

remember, ac shadows also has shit character models. outlaws and avatar too. who cares. cutscenes look better than all those games combined.

Exactly, the cartoony art style makes the character models look like wax figures / plastic dolls, but the lighting, camera movement during the action sequences all looked impressive.

It's not going to win any awards for graphical fidelity, but it's far from ugly.

It must be hell being a graphics whore. Everyone is out there having fun with playing games.
on the contrary, being a graphics whore lets me enjoy trash like hellblade 2, outlaws, avatar, ac shadows and starfield. if i only cared about gameplay, i wouldve committed account suicide years ago.

Because it's not E3. It's Summer Game Fest. AAAs don't have to work, it's just the midyear games media glaze session they're now entitled to.

The second you take away the E3 label, you take away any propriety towards what E3 was. Because of the ESA's bullshit, media assisted e-picketing and general laziness, devs do not want to actually put in the work to show their games off and show them well.

Enjoy your Wholesome ( 🤗 ) Games Direct and fragmented international shovelware showcases!
yeah, but cd project showed up six months after both ND and CD project revealed their respective games at the same event.

MS shows up every year. Like literally every year even though e3 has been dead since covid. Fable has been at the show for 2 straight years now.

Ubisoft shows up every year.

It's just sony studios who take a sabbatical around this time of the year when the entire industry comes together to show off their best.

Yes, I know state of plays are this format, I'm saying I'm expecting a playstation showcase event which is where they show more 1st party focused productions.

If Sony had any interest in doing a Showcase they would have done one last year to announce Ghost of Yotei and Intergalactic. It seems they don't see the value in doing big shows anymore. Which is a shame because they used to be great at it, Sony's shows were pure hype.

Lol, I know I partially did this with AC Shadows, still think the gameplay is good, HB2, maybe half way and with Outlaws, couldn't stomach that one for more than a mission.

I don't know why this is so hard to comprehend, discussing and criticizing graphics has nothing to do with the enjoyment of games, a game could be a 10 and the graphics shit.
lol you and character models. look at everything else.

Yeah, I mean cutscenes are nice and all, but most of the time I'm just pissed when returning to gameplay and character models, lighting, even animation isn't on the same level, for me the true judging of graphics is gameplay.

yeah, but cd project showed up six months after both ND and CD project revealed their respective games at the same event.
Yeah but CDPR showed up with fake footage. A slow walky tech demo that's not representative of TW4.

MS shows up every year. Like literally every year even though e3 has been dead since covid. Fable has been at the show for 2 straight years now.
I totally understand the point you're making here, so understand that I'm not making excuses for Sony first party. I think Intergalactic should have been revealed with gameplay. I think we should've seen Wolverine gameplay in an official capacity. I even think we should've seen Barlog's new project with gameplay by now.

That being said, Xbox has 2 things going for them; the flood of projects they've got going now have quite literally been in development since late last gen; and they bought a significant chunk of "higher tier"/AAA indies and 2 game publishers. Their "first party" stable is larger than Sony's and Nintendo's (who also isn't showing up in any significant way right now) combined.

The problem is that this glut is going to be very short lived. I dread to think what the next 3-5 years of Xbox showcases looks like. It's either going to be a drought, or a flood of total shit.

But more than anything, the question is about quality. Quantity matters, but without quality it means nothing. As demystified as both you and I have been with PS Studios' output this gen, let's be honest: It's still beating the daylights out of what Microsoft is putting out. It shows in the review scores and in the sales.

Ubisoft shows up every year.
Don't they mostly consign themselves to a solo July spot?

It's just sony studios who take a sabbatical around this time of the year when the entire industry comes together to show off their best.
They're not showing their best, is my point. The AAAs all come out with their own events scattered all over the year because they think they're hot shit. Getting 90 seconds of a cinematic trailer for something significant out of the Shill Keighley Summer bananza is a big thing where it used to be a footnote at E3 unless for a ridiculously long awaited sequel, remake of an iconic game, etc.

Like, Microsoft shows up. Are you ever impressed by their games? Do they come out to be incredible by the end?

IO Interactive is so not worried about prowess that they've launched an event partially around fucking MindsEye. That is embarrassing, and just shows you what SGF is all about.

So whats the consensus? Best looking games TW4 tech demo, GTA VI and HB2 and maybe intergalactic? This generation is a write off

this is equivalent to The Witcher 3 Cinematics, or even like all PS3/PS4 cgi cinematic made by Ubisoft as an example...

I've been dreaming with this visuals for a long time, since PS360 era...
I hope next gen consoles make things like this tech demo, and maybe games like Ratchet Clank looks like Toy Story 4!

I'm feeling you. I've been dreaming of graphics like this since i can think.
Especially since this i always wanted my game to look like this prerendered intro.

Im so depressed about the way MGS Delta looked in yesterday's SoP ....running on Ps5 Pro too wtf happened for it to get such a big downgrade? They must have released 5 trailers including gameplay prior to yesterday and each one looked amazing abd better than the last. Now, two months ahead of launch the truth finally comes out.

Fuck this industry so much. The same week we see the Witcher 4 supposedly running on ps5 looking ridiculously incredible only to find out that no, that wasn't indicative of how the game will actually look...FU CD Project that is the 3rd game in a row now that they just had to get people excited with phony footage. Can't help themselves. Witcher 4 doesn't surprise me because that's just what CD Project does but MGS3?? Now this one pulled the rug out from under me...what's next? GTA6?

Read the room, i'm hardly the only one that doesn't think the game look "incredible", characters or not.

Nothing look incredible in that trailer.

the side characters are equally bland and uninteresting, and NPC-like, as if they were made in a character creator

they should have charged Omega more, they could have upgraded the engine

it is like there's something wrong with the characters, anatomically

The lighting shows its age in many of the scenes, especially near the end
Fucking thank you.

This shit would barely fly on a ps4 game, let alone a nextgen one...

I feel a bit guilty. I think we might have laid into First Light a bit too much. can't help but feel a bit guilty.
I know that devs work really hard to bring their vision for a game to life. so,...
let's just reserve our judgment until we see what gameplay they have to show later today

If the game turn out as beatiful as shadows, i have no problem eating crow.

I'm also biased because i can't stand uncharted type of games anymore where slimy is probably super hyped for it.

I really hope this stuff was from an old build or something, definitely looked worse than previous showings.

This isn't the PS3 era anymore man. Nobody is willing to invest the budget and manpower to push consoles to their very limit be it visually or gameplay wise.

Definitely not intergalactic.
If we talking on consoles, HB2 for sure currently, its 30fps corridor walking simulator for a reason, think the order 1886 from previous gen.

In future gta6 if rockstar delivers, which we all hope they will, after that our standards will change/increase by a lot so W4 probably wont be as impressive as its tech demo is looking right now(and who really knows how much devs gonna downrage from there), at least not on base ps5 in those "60fps with rt cdpr dev so proudly claims :)

Gotta be realistic here and by the time intergalactic is out, it will look decent but from what we saw till now, well below gta6, and it will launch year later at the least, w4 likely gonna launch in 2028 so crossgen, but that is actually to its advanatage just like cp2077 situation, no1 gonna say cp2077 looks shit coz it looks/runs like shit on xbox one/ps4, we look at next gen patched ps5/xsx and maxed pc versions instead.

Same with w4, when it launches in 2028(likely holidays too) ppl wont judge its graphics by how it looks on by then last gen consoles anymore- ofc comparision vids will be there but u know what i mean, we judge how good game look by its best version, not cut down/downgraded to hell and back lastgen byproduct which is only made to get additional gold coins from casuals who didnt move on to next gen hardware yet ;)

U judge how good star wars outlaws looks based on switch2 trailer footage? :P

I too fancy myself a bit of that from time to time
but this doesn't seem to be the case
based on the trailer, it looks a bit undecided and ambivalent about what it wants to be
[like a cross between Hitman or Uncharted without the setpieces probably]

I really hope they hit it out of the park with their gameplay. I really want this game to do a lot better than the Hitman trilogy
because I freaking hated those games with a passion [the animations, the idiotic dialogues and giveaways,
the abysmal shooting mechanics, the ridiculous contracts that encourage silliness, the lack of panache in 47's moves and story,
the hiding of the gloves and the suitcase behind side missions and bloody challenges, the Sims-like graphics,
getting rid of the suit because they explicitly and shamelessly said they wanted to emulate 007, the horrible minimal music,
the gritty look of the previous games, the whole prestige of Agent 47, ...ahhhh]

honestly, they'd better do well

P.S. if they don't want to upgrade their own proprietary engine, then the most prudent move would be switching to UE5

Honestly could do with a shooter with some stealth elements. Or both. Since Naughty Dog are sleeping behind the wheel and who knows how Intergalactic will play like.

Graphics are a bit meh though it has potential for a lot of fun going off the trailer.

I agree, but soon you'll have Splinter Cell and MGS to scratch that itch. hell, who knows, Sony might actually unveil a new Syphon Filter game in the not too distant future
you know what First Light reminds me of more? Alpha Protocol

Yeah feels like there's going to be resurgence of good stealth games soon. Been wanting a new Splinter Cell for aaages. A new Syphon Filter wouldn't go amiss either as that tends to lean more towards action.

Been playing Mario Kart World in docked mode on my OLED and fuck me it's certainly not consistent to every track (and isn't pushing any new fancy tech obviously) but some of the tracks are downright ridiculous looking and have no business looking that great on a 3tflop machine. Like most modern games Youtube videos just do not do the game justice especially once you get the HDR balanced correctly. I suppose the top Nintendo dev's are known for their artistic prowess so it's good that now finally their art won't be hidden at 720p or worse...

After seeing that and knowing the one game they will spend big on is Zelda I think they could do something truly special visually with that hardware, that budget and a 30fps target. I think it will be a while before we see it though. I'm hoping for an UE5 Ocarina of Time remake first which would look insane if MKW is any indication of what the hardware can do with an exclusive title and a decent budget.

Fast Racing was a bit of a letdown tbh in terms of IQ. It looks extremely blurry even on it's 1440p mode. They must be using an absurdly low base for DLSS or even their own custom upscaler.

2077 looks insane in handheld mode at 40fps for a 10 watt handheld. A crazy achievement on such modest hardware.

Catching up on the trailers from the other night. Marvel looks great for it's artstyle and 007 is a real looker! Nioh 3 aswell looked great but I suck at those types of games. They don't have a difficulty mode do they? Hopefully like Lies of P they add one later to let us plebs play through the World and enjoy the story.

Haven't been keeping up with news and rumours. What big AAA games should we see tonight? FFVII Part 3 maybe?

I can't really put my finger on what is wrong with these shots.
I don't know if it is the lighting, the colour palette, the geometry or the excessive CA [which I actually tend to like when used in moderation]

the distant geometry like on the buildings looks flat as fuck and the color pallette isnt doing it any favors. I think IOs art direction peaked with Hitman Absolution and has gone down hill since then into some weird overly cartoony cheaper look.

What the fuck... Amount of CA is ~Bloodborne levels. When will these motherfuckers learn that most sane people hate this shit? It objectively looks like shit and photography/cinema was combating this for decades.

Game devs: "Let's use this camera lens flaw in our games, excessively!"

yeah the character models reak of a "winging it" first draft. Not suprised. IOs models have left alot to be desired every since the Hitman Reboot.

The sharpness, lod and lighting of some assets in the scene don`t fit the rest and makes them look like cutouts, like the ships and the buildings. And there`s also a lot of badly implemented motion blur and the CA is just hideous.
All together it just makes everything look "meh" at best.
If I had to guess I´d say we`re looking at a very scaled down spotty RTGI solution paired with a mixture of bought and self-fabricated assets and an engine that downright sucks at postprocessing.

I think although its not often talked about the effect is mostly used for helping with AA issues by blending the edges of Silhouettes.

I thought about it sometimes and you could be right. But this was "helpful" in times when we had no decent AA - MSAA was gone and FXAA/SMAA were shit (Bloodborne times)

Once TAA appeared and fixed almost all aliasing we don't need anything else to blur the edges (TAA is blurry enough).

Like i said, this isn't the first time its me against everyone. Time will tell.
even if the game turns out great, which I sincerely hope it will,
it won't be because of its visuals or character models, it will be because of the story and the gameplay
unless it was an early build or they decide to upgrade the engine in the months leading up to the release [unlikely],
their engine is just not trailer/cutscene friendly I guess, might look better in-game akin to Hitman
we'll see tonight, I am really rooting for them and want them to do well

Haven't played Hitman but i would guess the Glacier Engine struggles with distant LODs.

I feel the james bond game will be full of impressive set pieces, explosions, fast moving vehicles, etc, and trailers or screenshots could not really show that (apart from spoiling said set pieces). Im keeping hope.
This is a bad exemple imo.
This is actually one of the best depiction of the famous "sheepish smile of a man who just climbed the volcano his grand father threw him in in order to win back his legacy by becoming champion of the second king of Iron Fist tournament".
Even Senua and her retarded gurning is less expressive than this 360p low def vid.

Yeah, it's really odd looking, I'd even say these images look oddly artificial in a way that I don't even believe they are real captures from the game.

with just a little bit more to go , what are our 'graphical' expectations and wishes for tonight, fellow whores?
I want to see a huge overhaul of the RE engine tonight. it was amazing in RE2, RE7 and DMC V but it's now aging rapidly
