I haven't bought a Nintendo system since the Wii (which was very dissapointing to me due to shit resolutions) so no Nintendo fanboy here :
- Screen : how the FECK can people complain about it ? It's nice, bright and colorful - on par I'd say with the PS Portal which was also LCD (and good for a non OLED).
About the HDR thing, personally, I don't care that much since this will be docked 90% of the time, and before anyone accuses me of having low standards®, I have a Samsung Galaxy tab S9+, a galaxy S24 Ultra and a LG C2, so no, this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to LCD vs OLED.
Screen is A-OK, I played some Metroid Dread and MKW and not once I thought "shit, I wish this was an OLED"
- Rumble HD/haptics are really nice - and I've been using Dualsenses for 3+ years now.
- 3D audio is neat and max volume output via headphones (Cloud Alpha) is great - MUCH better than the Portal's.
Oh yes, having that 3.5mm jack is really convenient.
Console speakers have a nice, clear sound, max output levels ain't nothing to write home about but it's very acceptable.
- The Joycon2 grip is great to me and best of all, it's actually included.
Now, for the cons:
- The battery life man... absolutely unacceptable, I hope that it's mostly depended on what game is played (i.e , how demanding it is) minus the obvious screen brightness used 'cause otherwise...yeah.
I'll be playing mostly 2D indie games so, I hope that the battery will last more than that.
Question is, is this something that could be fixed via a FW update ? On smartphones things can be patched via FW update or app update when there's incessant battery drain so I'd hope that the same thing applies in this case.
- Dock seems very flimsy : cheap feeling all-around and especially the backplate which comes off extremely easy.
These are my first impressions, haven't tried docked mode 'cause I haven't applied the tempered glass yet.
