I mugged off my friend who is retarded (with assburgers disease and epilepsy) and got the 7900 XTX by trading him my RTX4070. I felt like I got scammed so I sold it, bought a 4070 Super when they released with change to spare to get games. In the end, I was just as retarded as him.

Not sure if this is what the release notes are saying. This was from May.

"v4 (5/2/25): updated vkd3d-proton -> fp8 and fp16 builds are now combined. Use DXIL_SPIRV_CONFIG=wmma_fp8_hack to enable fp8. RDNA3 now renders completely correctly using DXIL_SPIRV_CONFIG=wmma_rdna3_workaround."

That sounds like something else, and since the lack of news about this anywhere, I don't think this is about RDNA3 getting FSR4 support.

Doubt it would be very beneficial even if true without the dedicated ML components.
 
Scratch that there is no injection. It enables FSR4 for FSR4 compatible games since AMD has not yet provided official support under linux.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. I have an 7900XT and I'm happy with it. RT can look great in certain games (Cyberpunk), but often it's just not worth the performance hit.

Actually xtx is most the time on par with the 9700 XT with RT. Only below the 7900 XT it gets worse.
Also RT improved only about 20-30% and that is not that much when you only have 20-40fps. Nothing is much more playable with such light improvement, especially as the rest of the hardware is not on the same level. Really missing a bigger card from AMD with 20+GB of memory this generation.
From the perspective of an rx7800 the improvement is much bigger though.
 
So FSR4 requires FP8 and since RDNA3 needs to emulate it via FP16 the performance hit is rather extreme. I think this ties into work being done on FSR4 to work on PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro only has INT8 at 300 TOPS and FP16 at 67 TFLOPS. No FP8 support.

So, just speculating here, if they get a version of FSR4 to run on the Pro (likely integrated into a new PSSR version) we may see a version of FSR4 running on RDNA3 at the same time, without the huge performance hit.
 
FSR4, DLSS, etc. are just math which can be run by any processor, even CPUs.
The question is not the ability it's the performance you would get from doing that on something which isn't capable of running said math fast enough for that to be usable as an upscaling solution.
 
Yeah, that's where I'm at. I have an 7900XT and I'm happy with it. RT can look great in certain games (Cyberpunk), but often it's just not worth the performance hit.
Yeah modern global illumination models get you half the effect for a tiny fraction of the performance hit, then they also use RT in dev to create a more convincing prebaked that brings another ~15-20% of the effect, then you can get tricks like nanite in UE.

It used to be RT vs old ass conventional lighting models and it was night and day but these days devs have made enough work arounds that it's like $1000+ more for the card and the same substantial performance hit for only like a 20% additional refinement in the look. And of course this is only on the small handful of games that have it in a substantial way unless you are modding it in.
 
GE-Proton is my usual choice for game but I'm a little confused here - does using the FSR4_UPGRADE work on any game and do I need to run some special mesa branch.

I jumped into bazzite and its going well but damn, the learning curve don't he technical side is steep
 
Dunno honestly I'm just running special mesa branch and hacked bleeding edge proton since April, and just put OptiScaler in with FSR4 dll. I find motion vectors used in DLSS to be more accurate and I convert those plus I can set quality overrides.
