Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

I get people are not fan of game key card but it's crazy to me how much Bravely Default is on Switch 2 getting overlooked.

On Switch 2 the game can look gorgeous even its remaster of 3DS game.
It might sound weird but Bravely is actually the system seller for me (at launch I mean). I fell in love with BD2 and, as I never had a 3DS, was really looking forward to playing this.

I am not disappointed: game is damn great, looks beautiful and can be pretty brutal in terms of difficulty (which is a big plus for me)

With Yakuza 0, one of my absolute goat that was never translated in my language, MKW to play with the lady and friends, the GC games and Fast Fusion, I am having a BLAST.

Love my Switch 2, I hope we get a Direct soon. And I just cannot wait for The Duskbloods (THE system seller for me)

Very disappointed with the GC controller support for Metroid Prime Remastered. Was hoping for an update, but I guess I had no reason to expect it. Analog buttons not working, fine. No way to get to menu to change beams, not so fine.

I got mine this weekend. Nice hardware and playing Mario Kart World with my wife has been a lot of fun. This will be the Nintendo and local multiplayer system and maybe a few other select titles that perform better than Steam Deck. Looking forward to this gen.

After a few days if not messing with Mario Kart, I've been playing Ori, I put it back in and fired it up for a quick knockout race and appreciate it all over again how good the game looks. Very smooth, high frame rate, it is a joy to play for the most part all things considered and complaints aside. Switch 2 is nice hardware.

I'm deciding on if I should get Bravely or that Raidou Remaster coming out as my RPG to bring on our annual road trip at the start of July. I don't care about Game Key Card, and I do like that Bravely is exclusive, but just not sure...

I am having a strange issue with the switch 2 losing signal while docked to my LG C9. I'll be playing for 40 mins or so then the screen loses signal. Undock it and the image reappears. Anyone else having this issue? Maybe I need to unplug everything?

Not sure if you found a solution. But an AI assisted search yielded some tips it scrubbed of the internet. Didn't find much for Switch 2, but maybe some of these tips relating to Xbox might be of value.

-----------

Users have reported issues with the Xbox Series X and LG C9 where the TV loses signal, particularly when using 4K 120Hz with VRR enabled. Some users have found that manually updating the TV's firmware to version 5.00.03 resolved the issue, allowing the TV to run 4K 120FPS with VRR smoothly. However, others still experience signal loss even after updating, requiring them to power cycle the TV or use a different HDMI cable.

In some cases, the issue has been linked to the HDMI cable, with users reporting that switching to a high-quality HDMI 2.1 cable resolved the problem. Additionally, disabling certain settings such as Dolby Vision or enabling PC mode on the TV has also been suggested as potential fixes.

It is also worth noting that some users have experienced similar issues with other LG OLED models, such as the C2, where the problem was sometimes resolved by disabling ALLM or using a different HDMI cable. However, there is no official fix from LG or Microsoft for these issues, and users often have to troubleshoot on their own.

LOL the HDR settings for Switch 2 are actually a mess

If your TV doesn't support HGIG, it will simply not work correctly in HDR with Switch 2 (PS5 actually has the same problem)

But even with a TV that can disable tonemapping, the second screen calibrates RELATIVE to what you set on the first, which is pants on head retarded, you cannot set a precisely correct level unless you find a workaround to find your TML (Total Max Luminance) for your TV

At least my XSX came in handy today. Vincent cracked me up with his "counting lesson" quip.

If you don't have an Xbox, the Windows 11 HDR settings also report your max luminance when you calibrate with the HDR tool

If you don't have a living room PC or an Xbox, and your TV has been reviewed by RTings, you can also find the peak luminance for your TV in their review and go off of that

I believe I found the issue. Since my Switch lived on that HDMI port I had Instant response off. I notice I get the typical banner now display instant response. I'll report back if the issue comes back.

crazy to think, with how many switch 2 sold, a ton of the special sd cards also getting sold.
just thinking of the company going "oh, we got an uptick of 2m+ sales this month. good job CEO, you must have worked your butt off, here's a bonus.

The Switch 2 definitely has a huge issue with displaying HDR properly - however, none of these "recommended" settings from people like this YouTuber mentioned earlier in the thread make the picture look correct (and yes, I have HGiG turned on). I'm on an LG B4 OLED and enabling HDR video in the Switch 2 settings to either 'all software' or 'compatible software only' makes the picture look horrible no matter what I do. As it turns out, the fix for me was turning that setting off entirely - the TV now says it displays in HLG HDR and looks as vibrant and dynamic as it should. It's as if the LG TV is overriding any HDR settings by default at the base level even if the Switch 2 has it turned off (using game optimizer mode). Might require an update from both Nintendo and LG to resolve properly.

I saw this, trust way more this guy. And yeah seems to be a mess.

Lucky for me I don't have a TV so I can't tell how bad theHDR is

Eh this guy is farming hater engagement, I gave him the doubt after 2 videos, but since I'm like "eh"
His conclusions do not generally seem to be completely out of line with what the more respected Vincent Teoh says in his videos though. So you hate them both or one is hated because he is saying something we do not like to hear perhaps?

I saw him bending a bit some truth to fit his narrative, which at the end is correct, but I believe you don't need to do it if you're confident enough in what you're saying.

Like when you heat journalists talking about something you know, and they say some aspects that are not correct, you're like « whow hold on, this aspect is definitly not true ».

At the end I don't really care about all of this, but I saw more nuanced opinions here.

To be honest, I didn't watch his Mario Kart World video, as I kinda lost faith in what he was saying. I'll watch it at some point to have a more valid opinion, and maybe I'll edit my post

So you have turned HDR off in the console settings. But it's still sending an HDR signal to you T.V.... Sounds strange. I have an older 2022 LG OLED C Series model and it's fine on either the "All Software" or "Compatible software only" settings. I opt for the compatible option. You still have to get the balance right between the console and your T.V's own HDR picture settings but it works fine. And the T.V has the HDR indicator coming on when it detects the HDR signal. Glad you found a work around..

wut ?
You can use both Paypal AND a credit card?
I know you can, it's how I purchase stuff but randomly it will tell me I can't and give me errors for a random amount of days.

It's been doing this for years and they still haven't fixed it.

So I have to buy pre payed cards add them to my account just to buy stuff until there system lets me use my PayPal or card again. It's annoying as hell.

Error Code: 9001-1470

Card and PayPal are both valid and working, it will start working again within a random timeframe.

Are you sure it's not working? Because games like Zelda BOTW have a washed out hdr image by creator's intent.

So far I love everything about this console, except my old Pro controller can't wake it from sleep mode. No idea why. It's basically an improved Switch in every way. Even the UI is better.

Unfortunately it seems that the only controller capable of waking the console is the new Pro Controller for Switch 2.

Strangely, manually turning on the docked Switch 2 (pressing the power button on top) will wake up my Switch 1 Pro Controller as player 1, but not the other way around.

That's correct - it is very strange and makes me think there is some sort of handshaking issue with the TV firmware and the Switch 2 (B4 OLED is their 2024 model - it's on the latest possible firmware). I have literally tried every possible combination of brightness for steps 1 & 2 and it delivers nothing but overblown, washed out picture (not the 'standard' washed out look that HDR might appear like to some either, the kind where the highlights are so exaggerated it would cause burn-in sooner rather than later). Changing these settings made no difference to the picture either, which makes me further suspect LG's firmware is overriding whatever the Switch 2 has set in HDR settings. It's as if HDR settings are being applied twice, not once.

100% positive. I've had HDR calibrated on my other consoles (PS5 Pro, Series X) as well as for general viewing and movies, and this isn't even comparable to the standard 'washed out HDR' that some users would see. It's as if the TV or Switch 2 (I suspect the TV at this point) is applying HDR settings twice to the picture output instead of once.

OK broski, I think I might have found the solution :

XSX and PS5 work perfectly well with the RGB both on the TV and the consoles themselves set to "auto" , on the S2 though, using a LG C2 not so much since the picture would look washed out no matter what.

What I did was setting the S2 to "auto" but the TV to "limited" - BAM - no more washed out picture, everything now looks as it should.

Now, you might think that we're mismatching the settings this way, but, there's no crushed blacks from what I checked and IMO, the "auto" option on the S2 itself is broken for the time being - just like the audio output one since it NEVER auto-changes the audio output devices for me.

Give it a try and report back 😉

You sir are a genius - this has indeed resolved the issue! How neither the Switch 2 or LG TV is properly choosing the correct video range is beyond me.
