I know this is not usually the place to get things off your chest but I was born in iraq in 1986 and here is what I have witnessed personally so far

- iran iraq war
- 1991 kuawit invasion
- Desert Storm
- Internal Civil War and Evacuation
- Kurdish Civil War 1995-1996
- Islamic uprising 2001
- Iraq Invasion 2003
- Tribal War 2004-Present
- ISIS
- Covid
- Israel and Iran War

I mean honestly the fact that I am an optimistic fun loving guy is really surprising, and the reason why I am especially agitated this morning is because I bought Nintendo Switch 2 and it was shipping and now I might not even get it because all flights are cancelled and who knows when they are opening up 🤬

Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.

A lot of the people I speak to here, in the US, have no clue what it is like to live in a place like the Middle East. To be laying in bed and to hear air raid sirens and not knowing what is going to happen next. Way to be upbeat about it and I hope your Switch 2 gets there soon!

You should use this thread to tell us about things you've seen, culture, and whatever else you can think of. I'm sure people would be interested. When did you start learning English? What is the environment like where you are?

Oh okay, I need to clarify one thing that not alot of actual war have happened around me directly because I am in the safest part of the country, I live up north and it is safe here (relatively), the one thing I am super lucky about is the people from where I live has a great sense of community so there are no actual dangers from your neighbors, but I worked in NGOs helping the victims of ISIS from 2013-2019 and if you want horror stories from those I have so many to tell

Regarding when did I learn English I learned when I was around the age of 12, my dad worked with UN as an english translator and I had a lot of sources to learn, and I loved movies and games and so I learned

Fucking hell, that is quite the timeline. Great that you have managed to remain reasonably optimistic and to enjoy things like gaming.

I want to be positive and think that now that the theocratic regime in Iran looks like it will fall, and the rest of the region has made peace with Israel, the region will see an era of stability, prosperity and liberty, like the 70s seemingly where. But then I remember the track record the west has with regime changes in the middle east… I really hope it's different this time, I would love to explore the region.

Very much appreciate the thread, cool to speak with someone from Iraq!

Are you still in Iraq or have you left.

And man that is a lot of wars.
Oh, I just realized the OP is actually from Iraq, I thought you were making a joke ☹️

Fuck man, no one should have to experience all that in their life, that is a lot of war. I honestly hope you get your Switch 2 soon.

Damn dude, that does suck. I would say I hope it gets better, but the past 30 years does not exactly fill me with confidence. Let's hope your Switch 2 is not overly late, when everything else has gone to shit it's best to take your wins when you can.

My timeline is awesome.

It's just bunch of people wearing bald caps on a Pitbull concert.

edit: wait, we're not talking about what appears on your social media feeds? oops.

No but we should what is happening at that pitbul concert
There was this one event I think with walmart where the most people who voted on a specific branch would get to have Pitbull perform a concert for them.

4chan trolled and purposely made a branch in Alaska win. A town with low population. Pitbull still went and performed a concert for a couple of people and that won the hearts of everyone.

Ever since then like 80% of people in his concerts wore bald caps for support or something man or woman. It's just getting memed on. Like pitbull wanted a sea of beautiful girls and instead got bald people instead.

I wish for your sake that GW Bush would have had the fortitude to get rid of Sadam in the first gulf war. I think the rebels that were ready to fight then would have built a better Iraq.

That is some shity times you have lived through. Respect and love to you, you seem a good person and showing your optimism shows your strength of character. I hope the future will be brighter for you, fingers crossed your Switch 2 turns up asap.

A better Iraq cannot be built, this country have seen so much war and death no one is thinking about the future it is always just "what I can grab on to right now" no matter what they put in place the government will become corrupt within days because of all the money that is up for grabs in this country, the oil is crazy easy to smuggle out and if you fill the right pockets you can go from a simple tuck driver to multimillionaire within a year, if you actually look into it it is a bit demoralizing which is why I avoid it.

Country needs stable leadership, It has Oil, so wealth can come. You also have history like know other. Babylon, which I would love to see, as well as the zigurates of Ur the land of the Chaldeans and the home of Abraham. I think countries even ravaged by war and turmoil and destruction with great leadership can emerge prosperous from the ashes. ATATURK did it for Turkey, Temujin did it for Mongolia. What builds a nation. I think it boils down to laws and respect for them by the population. I am sure there could be an industrial base, and I do not know but you have mining and navigable rivers.

I think that is going to be the case like fuck 😂😂😂

The issue is we really are not a single nation, we are 3 very different nations with totally different Ideologies, like Saddam was horrible to us and Shias but he was great for Sunni arabs

Divided ideologies can still be lead. And I know there is like a Trinity of factions. Kurds, Suni, Shias. But when you have prosperity, some of those differences matter less. But it does take work, even America is fracturing on ideological craziness right now.
