FAQ

Is there crossplay?
Unfortunately not at launch. I'm super bummed too. Sloclap did however say yesterday that it will come in a matter of weeks

How is the game technically?
While it runs smooth on my Series X & ROG Ally, the past two days of early access have shown that the game has many bugs connected to its servers. Queuing can be wonky at times, kickoffs sometimes start on the wrong team, boots/crashes can also happen during matches alongside rubber-banding with the football itself.

Is this game gonna flop?
While I wish they were launching this game after figuring out crossplay and their servers, 1.8 million people played their final beta with 160,000 concurrents on Steam. I think the bones of this game are solid, but they will need to keep updates rolling before Season 1 begins.

Is it on Gamepass?
Yes! I was hoping they'd launch on PSPlus too so they could get a bigger audience, but PC/Xbox access with a subscription is nice.

Is there a Discord?
Yes! The official Discord is thriving and they recently created another server solely dedicated to finding teammates. My username is Savinowned (same as here) and I'd love to play with you on Xbox/PC Gamepass!

Binged in and bought the game.

Coming straight up from FIFA with my custom controls from the old Pro Evolution Soccer days, the way the did the control scheme feels extremely different.

But it's understandable, because the game isn't supposed to be played like a normal football game.

It's difficult, but I'm liking it so far.

Agreed! Are there some things that Pro Evolution or FIFA did with controls that you like more? I haven't played those games much

I couldn't get into it at all because of the controls.

My brain kept translating every input into FIFA moves, which basically short-circuited my entire gameplay experience

After playing FIFA for over two decades, that kind of muscle memory is hard to shake!

I really don't like the aiming and shooting

Pissed off that it said the controls were remappable outside the beta, and they aren't

Played a few games now and lost them all. Nobody seems to pass, and the (rookie) matches are generally just a load of people running towards where the ball was half a second ago.

It doesn't seem to have a camera option for focusing on the ball, or at least it's not mentioned in the tutorial. That's the only way I could play Rocket League, you're kind of screwed if the ball is behind you and you need to rotate the camera.

There is no "ball cam" BUT you can be facing the goal when a pass is coming towards you, and you will get that icon around the ball telling you to gather it, pass it, or shoot it. You'll never score a goal if you try to turn the camera while shooting. You have to be facing the net first. It takes practice (6-10 hours) before it really clicks.

Also, use the "freemode" in the menu (press B or Circle). Like RL, it's a great way to learn the game.

It's pretty tough for a beginner. Even gathering a pass from the goalkeeper isn't simple - I'm looking at him to see when he's going to release it, but the ball goes behind me and is swept up by an opponent, or I'm instantly tackled.

Rocket League benefits from floaty physics and the inability to have the ball stuck to your foot/car, so nobody is in control of it for long. I haven't figured out how to play this at all, whereas I found Rocket League instantly accessible.

A common theme among the initial feedback seems to be about unintuitive controls? It sounds bizarre, frankly. In the videos at least, it looks like the game would play just like one would expect it to, but apparently it's a bit weird.

I will say I thought half the battle with Sifu was learning the controls and character inertia. I really liked the game but the learning curve felt bad and frustrating particularly because of the controls. A couple friends are playing this and hating the controls and feel and I wonder if it's a similar situation. I'm all for not every game feeling the same but it has to be intuitive and accessible to a degree imo.

You shoot with the right trigger and aim by placing the right stick camera in line with where you want the ball to go for starters

I tried the beta and it had its moments but it's largely a "run back and forth across the whole field" simulator because nobody passes, and when they do pass they are very hard to aim / time so most of the time either you or the passer has screwed it up. I had the most fun playing goalie cause I actually got to engage with the gameplay a bit (and actually scored a goal from the position too).

Seems like you pass more time fighting the camera than playing football. Also, you are supposed to keep the eyes the ball to know when it arrives in a cross but when you shoot you have need to be already pointing at the goal since you can't shoot where you are not watching, that's clunky

Game needed another year to perfect the netcode. Every game I see people warp from one area to the other, ghost goals, freeze ups...this is not a good game in its current state.

To the people complaining about the camera....it honestly takes 6-10 hours of playing the game for it to "gel". It also helps playing with friends. Playing solo is terrible.

did not think you could fuck up futsal but they managed it.
how the hell are you supposed to score from an assist if first you are looking at the teammate and then to shot you are supposed to completely switch your visual to the goal and aim?

only way I managed to make it work was focusing only on the goal and pray that the ball arrives

This is where positioning comes into play and you hope for a good delivery

Played solo first and I get, you, doesn't make sense.

Played with a friend with voice chat, and it gets way easier (still difficult, but easier).

Communication is key for this game.

Played a bunch of matches in a full stuck already (ranked) and this is a ton of fun. I love that matches don't take forever as well. If you lose you're instantly into the next one.

This is great and plays perfect on M+KB as well.

Bought on PS5. Its barebones currently, also some technical problems with latency and lagging, ball teleporting.
I have mixed feelings, feels like there is a potential but its not yet there. Like everything is half way there.
And as its MP only, playing with friends is essential to have fun, with randoms... you know how it is, everyone wants to be a Ronaldo.

Game will feel better after a year of updates that's for sure

This shit takes 10 minutes to find a quick match lol

There's not much for progression either. Really barebones. Not sure why anyone would grind this.
It's fun most of all. Easy to learn, hard to master.

This game reminds me of CS funnily enough. It's all about mechanics that are built on a super solid foundation, which makes the gameplay itself engaging without the need for a carrot on a stick.
