Rematch |OT| It’s like Rocket League, with Feet

How do you play it, against other players i assume. Is there a lobby system or what?
Its just rapid fire 3 on 3 to start. You control 1 person. Everyone only plays as themselves. Every point you swap positions so you rotate goalie. Matches are fast. Like 5-6 min. Arcade sports done right with a lot of nuance.

did not think you could fuck up futsal but they managed it.
how the hell are you supposed to score from an assist if first you are looking at the teammate and then to shot you are supposed to completely switch your visual to the goal and aim?

only way I managed to make it work was focusing only on the goal and pray that the ball arrives
Did you know, that only shooting requires the crosshair, passing does not. You just push the stick towards the goal. This allows you to be looking at a team mate and hand off the ball behind you, to your left, etc, without using the crosshair.

... you can also score using this method, and its very effective, you just don't get a chance to add spin.

Does it have couch co-op like versus or even two people playing online together from the same console? Pretty sure I remember doing this with Rocket League.

This is where positioning comes into play and you hope for a good delivery
That's basically what I was doing, but most of the time your teammate either does not pass or loses the ball, and you stay a couple seconds in front of the net hoping for a pass that will never come and lose time you should be spending tracking back.

In a way I get what they were trying yo do, managing your "sight" is a big thing when you actually play football.
But in football the bet is always in the same place, you do not need to see it to shoot on goal more often than not.

Also moving our head and moving the camera and aim do not work at the same speed

Maybe mouse and keyboard controls are better?

What's the deal with their creative director?
A few weeks ago a resetera user shared that Jordan Layani, a Co-founder of Sloclap, follows a bunch of assholes on Twitter. I respect anyone who would disassociate with this dev, but I don't think this warrants boycotting as he follows 550+ other people, alongside prominent progressives.

For shooting yes, its way better with KBM, but everything else feels weird, at least to me.

For now I have difficulty aiming the shots, so I play more like a playmaker - Slow down the game, dribble and make sure to pass the ball to others players when I see an opening on their end. Also I position myself more at the back because everyone likes to run to the fucking goal as soon as we regain possession of the ball.

It's pretty satisfying.

After 25 hours in I'm feeling like there are a few things I like more about Rematch:

1. Playing an actual footballer ties me closer to my own experiences on the pitch irl. Rocket cars are fun and give much more vertical freedom at higher levels, but it pulls further from the actual sport naturally.

2. I enjoy 1 on 1s much more in Rematch. Single button presses for multiple different options, with multiple defensive options too. I still feel like I have dozens of hours more to improve on beating out another player.

3. Sweeper keeper is tricky to learn but I think much better (and more realistic) than the constant goalie rotation of RL. It allows for teams to have a dedicated goalie if they so choose, and the infinite boost makes for super interesting swapping strategies.

Overall I still think it is imperfect, but I'm so glad Rematch exists between FIFA and RL.

Yeah I hear you. Aiming with M&K is way much better because you can simply flick your view to goal but everything else doesn't feel as good. I gave it a try and couldn't vibe with it

So I'm teaching myself look quickly at my teammates during a run then use the minimap to see where they're at and who's on me from the opposition team

Had a lot of fun in the beta. It should do well if it can keep player count high and updates coming. The biggest problem right now is the lack of crossplay, apparently not even gamepass and steam versions can play together which is a big hit on player count, hopefully they update it soon.

I think maybe the reason my teammates seem to be running all over the place and rarely passing is because of the netcode. We're playing on the same pitch but spread a couple of seconds apart.

I just collected the ball as the keeper and all the opposition players were behind me, so I ran forward to shoot into their empty goal. Suddenly, a goal was awarded to the other team. The replay showed I was nowhere near the ball and the opposition just walked it into my own empty net.

Barely playable like this, for me.

I played a lot of it yesterday and it's addicting. Think it will be around for a while.

I have one major problem, however. The passing system sucks. You can do six rainbows in a row without a problem even with a defender all over you but it's damn near impossible to execute a simple 10 yard pass. In theory it's supposed to be a team game but in reality, it's just 3-5 ball hogs trying to score like Maradona on every possession.

There is a short pass option that isn't covered in tutorials. On Xbox instead of X you can tab A + X at the same time. Works with lob passes too, RB + A + X. I've also found more luck with lob passes in general, especially with just a tap of X.

Passing will always be an issue in lower levels cuz bad players are selfish players. When you get into a bit higher ranked though teams be passing like CRAZY. You cannot win consistently in this game without utilizing each other often.

I've also had multiple precision assists from the goalie spot with LB + RT. The shot button works as a pass too at long distance.

It won't take off like Rocket League because it's too inaccessible. At the base level of Rocket League you can just say "press this button to drive, hit the ball into the goal" and anyone can figure that out.

I'm still ass but this already has its hooks into me. Such a nice change of pace from all the shooters I usually play and it's also the first footy game I've enjoyed in about 20 years. I mean I love football as a sport but I could never really get on with FIFA or PES, at least not after the early 00's anyway. Sega Soccer Slam was where it was at for me hah and this very much scratches that itch.

I can't wait to try it tonight. I used to play Pes alot but the game has turn into a shit show recently. Hopefully This will be a nice change of pace and still have that football feeling.

I've had trouble performing these consistently. Do you have to press them simultaneously or in quick succession?

Bought this last night had fun but quite tricky to get the hang of. Most of my matches resembled an under 9's game with everyone chasing and not much passing. I'd expect this isn't an issue as you move up the ranks.

Also seems the easy way to score is aim high then tap in off the rebound.

Think they have a hit on their hands if they can update it at a decent pace. Good stuff, bare bones but great potential 7/10

But on the flip side I bet alot of FIFA kids don't touch rocket league. I bet the FIFA crowd which is huge would play this.

I don't know, maybe because I was a bit drunk but I loved playing it last night - just felt like a super fun game. Lost my first three games but then I (partially) figured out controls and my teams won 5 games in a row.

I think you should be able to remap the buttons (maybe you can?). Someone else said it, after 30 years of Pro Evo and Fifa my brain doesn't compute with completely different controls. I'll get it in the end but it would make things a lot more accessible to the masses.

OK I'm in. I played some of the tutorials and went to practice mode.

This game is surprisingly complex and a lot of the actions require much more manual input than I thought. I think that is great since it raises the skill ceiling higher and forces the player to really learn the mechanics.

Closest thing I could find to a road map:

This is kinda addicting.
It has problems, but the rounds are short so it's easy to just go ahead and play another round. And another. And...

I would like for an option to change the team size in ranked matches. 5vs5 is not that much fun, I much prefer 3vs3.

Already racked up 7 hours on this... Game's so much fun in a full stack on discord. Everyone going "Ooooh" or "Ahhh" with goals or near misses. Such a blast. :lollipop_beaming_smiling:

How are the server issues now? I've been looking at this one since advanced access and didn't pull the trigger simply because of the amount of people online complaining about desync and instability.
