Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Does it matter?
I always posted pics of the console version of hfw for comparison against pc games, sony games very rarely have better textures on pc, probably only returnal...
It does. Wukong looks incredible on PC, not so much on PS5, so why compare the PC version of the game with DS2? Let's compare wukong on PS5 and DS2 on PS5.
You are still not answering my question or addressing my claims. The lighting, foliage, rain, sand, detail is all last gen. Do you disagree?
I do. Idk what games you played last gen, but we played different games for sure ^^. DS2 is up there with the best looking games on PS5, period. It has its shortcomings like all console games but as a whole, it's up there.

We always exagerate a bit in here but if you have told me that the pic i posted was from ds1, i would believe you in an heartbeat.

The truth is probably in the middle but this doesn't look like a gigantic jump from hfw, a 3 years old crossgen game.

Oh and btw, i know it sound offensive, but horizon is a ps4.5 game and it still look like this

Head to head with ds2 if you ask me.

exactly! the lack of micropolygons renderer is the most obvious miss.

nanite is a breakthrough

Even small time Chinese devs are implementing virtual geometry in their game

Let's see if ND will finally crack the code with Intergalactic.

I thought slimy was exagerating a bit...

How in the absolute fuck can df compare this to the best ue5 nanite use??

Rocks even up close look like smeared shit, what the hell is this?

I guess there is a reason why people keep posting the opening in the mountain, kojima probably used all the rock details budget for that scene :lollipop_squinting:

That video doesn't look an inch better than fw.

And wtf is that water simulation? The moment he get in the water it turn brown and shit hit the fan, looks scripted as fuck.

Yeah, i noticed that immediately after the previews. that mountain range looks a lot more detailed than the rest of the game. probably because its fairly linear, but even that didnt impress me all that much. there is just that distinct lack of clarity and sharpness ive come to expect this gen from rocks and textures. Not to mention everything not directly in front of you isnt really that detailed even in that scene which clearly got more love than most of the open world.

And while the draw distance is way better than HFW, i really dont care for the forest levels either. the foliage is so last gen compared to HFW.

im playing on pro's performance mode so i will switch to quality and see if native 4k makes a difference. at the very least, it will look sharper. GG's upscaling solution is better than PSSR, but i still prefer DLSS quality.

Did you finally caved in and bought a pro?

Btw ds2 having only a zone with good rocks doesn't remind you of something...

That zone close to the sea in fw with actual great rocks that you can't find in any other zone.

Ds2 doesn't look like a giant upgrade over this

I know this sound obvious but the game mixing ingame graphic and real life footage show how much far we still are from photorealism...
DS2 starts with a long intro of real life vistas featuring deserts, mountains and valleys that people thought was ingame lol.

thats the end goal. i dont think we get there this gen or next gen with the way kojima is going.

Wow, if you told me this is DS1 I would believe it. This looks rough.

Yeah, that opening with real footage that people still think it's in game even here? Lol, that's so funny it's sad.

No people in here know that the footage before the mountain is not ingame.

yeah its in the OT, twitter and on era. people want to believe those graphics are real so bad, but they dont want to pay the cost.
Cognitive dissonance at its best. If those are real, the rest of the game is trash.

They're just idiots.

Speaking of idiots: I really want to play DS2, but the first one got boring real fast, and I ended up watching the rest of the story on YT.

Given the quality of the cutscenes, I'm starting to think I should just watch those instead. But I hate youtube compression xD

Maybe, but it's so obvious, guess the power of belief is greater.

Lol, I played the 1st one on PC twice, for me it was the opposite, I very much liked the game progression but hated that pretentious gibberish story. Wanted to buy a PS5 for this, but saw it's much of the same, not in a hurry doing it a 3rd time, I'll wait.

Yeah, YT is awfull, even so, if you hated the gameplay but want to see the story, I think it may be better.

I didn't hate it; on the contrary, it's rather enjoyable. It just goes on for too long (even if the progression is nice) and BTs are just a nuisance.

Still debating. I was even thinking about buying a ps5pro xD

By the way: Hellblade 2 is getting an enhanced edition, this august. Finally some true next-gen again (and even PS users will be able to enjoy it).

You are wrong.

Btw nice animation at 6:25, dude is made of soap or hang out with the flash...

I swear kojima must be including hallucinogens with every copy of the game :lollipop_squinting:

Dont bother the story sucks too.

Yeah, saw that, but shhh, that's a forbidden game and it's also on UE5, we're not allowed to gush over it, there were tons of games that looked just like it. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

If I remember right, I could be wrong, hadn't play the game. But that like random mudslide/floods that can happen near water. Better view you can see when that water extra rush of water coming down.

I think we're in a "rebuilding" generation in terms of graphics. Trying to replicate what was once baked lighting with real-time ray tracing, getting PS4-looking games but at 1440p+ and 60fps where they used to be like 900p and 30fps. Nothing profound, I know, but it keeps holding true with these big tentpole titles like Death Stranding 2.

Matrix Awakens & Hellblade 2 are still the most impressive things I've seen this gen. GTA 6, too, but that's not out yet.

Kind of stinks, but don't give up hope. We'll see what we expected for PS5 next gen...right?

Caved in for the Pro to play DS2. Don't agree with the thread, the game looks spectacular on a HDR OLED.

Base PS5 is still hooked up on the screen so I can make comparison. While there are not much differences, I he improvement in image clarity is really felt and enhanced the presentation by a significant margin

It's impossible for me to play performance mode on PS5 poor because of the low res. Thankfully my eyes can still adjust to 30 FPS pretty well.

It saddens me that even Kojima and decima played the lazy and exeedingly safe approach with their game. Honestly this was pretty much the last hope Sony studios had of showcasing a technical showstopper to sell the pro and it honestly trades blows with HFW at best. The fall from technical leaders to 60fps crossgen dealers is hard to watch. Even small indie studios have implented more ambition in their engiines like black desert etc that implemented both micropolygon tech and rtgi and this is basically Sonys best and its basically ps4tech amped up.

Im pretty happy with DS2 for the most part. The lighting has that nice soft lighting quality and the geometry, while not quite as impressive as the best Nanite implementations, is still really impressive to me. Image quality is overall good though it definitely has its share of artifacting from whatever upscaling they're using (i think it is pssr). The vistas though, the texture quality, improved animations, and HDR are all adding up to one of my favorite games visually...and at 60 fps no less

PS- I must add though that i don't think enough was done for Pro owners in this game (surprise surprise). They could've improved just one or two settings over and above PS5 and I would be happy. Again its just another minor res boost. Biggest Sony game we'll see until Intergalactic and they can't do something special for their $800 console

Looking at more footage, I wonder if DS2 is using some sort of SVOGI style solution, which technically wouldn't be raytracing. It doesn't look inconsistent enough to be light probes only, and there is still plenty of dynamic lightning in most scenes. The performance targets are fairly similar to KCD2 as well.

It's the best looking game even on Performance mode. I honestly can't believe it runs with 60fps.

Loaded it up and played an hour or so. Kind of feeling the first "This is next-gen" feeling I've had in this whole generation. This game looks unbelievable, what the fuuuuuuck?

The best looking game of all time? Kojima tha God???
