Battlefield 6 Multiplayer reveal - 31st July 2025 (11:30 PT // 14:30 ET // 19:30 UK)

Cod will be just fine. People just love jumping on the online bandwagon. No matter how good BF is and how shit the new cod will be, people still buying cod games every year and it keeps breaking records every year... Nothing will change

Yes, CoD players will always stick to the ADHD FPS and BF players will always stick to the slower TTK and more methodical FPS.

It's been in a consistent downtrend since it went on Steam 3 years back.

That bump earlier this year was the return of Verdansk, which was supposed to be their break glass move but player numbers are already back where they were before.

There will always be a core group of whales who buy all the skins, but Call of Duty is not cool anymore. It's a game for children and basement dwellers.
That's more reflective of Warzone than actual COD. The Mainline game will always do gang busters then shed players throughout the year. Rinse repeat.

You can see the small bump for MWIII because the game was poorly received and pretty good retention as the MP and support turned out great. The inverse is true for BLOPS6.

BLOPS7 will be less on both counts this year until we get MW4 the year after.

This will always be an endless debate because Activision purposely hide the player numbers, so all we have is Steam. I believe that number includes Warzone, BO6, MWII and MWIII. They count it all as one game to fudge the numbers.

I don't envisage people returning in droves for MW4. MWII was a big sales hit off the back of MW2019 and Warzone, but it was considered a huge disappointment and barely any of the droves who bought that came back for MWIII.

They've also tapped the wells of nostalgia dry by this point so I'm struggling to see what they've got left. Their best hope is whatever Sledgehammer are working on, but unless the matchmaking and the store are gone I won't be playing it.

Been hearing about the decline of COD for a decade. Now MS are at the wheel that very well might happen, but as long they give players what they want I just don't see it happening.

MW4 will be huge. The bump from MWIII to BLOPS6 was big enough in spite of GP.

Hopefully BF6 is decent and gives them a run for their money, feels like last chance saloon for this franchise.

I play both COD and BF and they not really 100% direct competitors imo. I enjoy them both for different reasons.

BF = Higher player counts with generally more war-like combat on larger maps
COD = Lower player counts with generally more swat/special ops-like combat on smaller maps

Not many people have that kind of time on their hands though. Especially when you factor in other titles into your play time. If this releases in a decent state and plays well, i'll probably skip COD this year (or at least play a hell of a lot less).

I bet EA and MS absolutely see each franchise as direct competitors.

I mean I basically only play these two games at this point which is probably I am differentiating like this.

Yeah just pointing out people like yourself are probably an outlier. If I played both I don't think I'd have time for anything else either. I have a couple of other MP/GAAS that I enjoy so would need to pick one or the other or get a divorce.

My wish list.

Decent single player campaign.

Offline/bot mode. Let me play all multiplayer modes with bots only. Sometimes I just want to have some fun without the stress of multiplayer.

Varity of multiplayer modes. Classics like CTF, something new we haven't seen before and a BR mode. Just go crazy with options.

Best destruction physics ever seen in a game, at least the best in any BF game.

No novelty skins. I don't want to see Snoop Dogg, Luke Skywalker, Homer Simpson etc.

I like your list and I too love an offline mode, its where I play with set ups and learn maps and like you said just sometimes its more fun

I also hope you can set the bots to different levels of difficulty as I don't want all stupid bots nor do I want them all being Esport experts, let me mis them up.

I love different modes as well and I know vehicles are what makes BF but I also like non vehicle modes

And yeah I don't want to see Nicki Minaj twerking on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle as an execution move

Sounds too good to be true, but I agree.

Correct me if I'm wrong because it's been a while since I've played COD, but I'm pretty sure in COD you can play all MP modes with BOTs only. Not sure if that's still a thing in modern CODs, but I do remember it was an option in COD WW2, which was the last COD game I played. I'm also sure you could adjust the BOT difficulty as well.

Basically, if COD can do this then I don't see any reason why Battlefield can't offer the same.

If EA want to boost up those sales numbers then they need to offer as many options as possible.

Not used them but yes I believe bots are available in COD. I think there is the option to have them in Warzone also.

Yeah I explore new maps a lot with bots only in COD but not 100% you can play all modes with them, I usually just did TDM

Its been a while since I have done it but could also play 2042 with bots only as its where I would attempt to practice my flying skills which would always end up in me getting frustrated and driving a tank and slaughtering the bots :)

The did add a lot of bots for the "casual" solo playlist in Warzone but you couldn't just set up your own Warzone server and use bots (unless this has changed recently)

Side note to these shooters and an unpopular opinion I think you should earn XP in offline modes even if its half or even 1/4 of that as in MP games

In the end who cares how others level up?

I mean in COD for new guns I would level them up in Zombies getting to round 15 and set up in the bank and watch TV while I headshot them coming around the corner and earned a lot of XP in the process

So if people cheese their way to higher weapon ranks anyhow just let us earn XP offline

I play both... not everyone sticks to just one thing.

Over the years I have really experimented with getting into and playing both, but I'd say it was around the time of the original BLOPS that I came to the conclusion that obvious symptoms of ADHD are generally a requirement for continued engagement with the Call of Duty online multiplayer component.

Looks like launch maps could be the ones on the left.

EA better not fuck this up. BF6 is looking to be a major hit if EA doesn't let greed and stupidity get in the way again like they did with 2042 and BFV.

For EA, failure is always an option.

But I admit I would love to go back to the glory days of BF3 and BF4 and have a proper ne Battlefield game.

16 maps at launch....not bad.

14 is still too good to be true based on the latest BF releases lol. I was expecting 8, max 10
Yeah sounds like a too good to be true decent amount considering the size of the maps. I'd expect at least a few of these to be held back for the first couple of seasons surely?

I'm not a BF nerd by any means, what do they normally launch with around 8?

8-10. This will probably launch with 10 and remastered maps are coming later with brand new ones so its not just 1 map at a time

I like them more for the immersion of all out warfare than anything else. Hopefully there won't be a carnaval worth of character and weapon skins.

Kind of infuriating in a comedic way that if I play with my buddy and we run from 1 point to the next, my buddy gets there unscathed and yet I die from chopper/artillery/jet attacks multiple times.

There are a ton of multiplayer gameplay videos on youtube now, it looks SO GOOD. Sniping looks like a lot of fun too... i hate sniping in COD cause i never seem to be able to land my shots even when i'm fairly close aiming at someone's head. BF i've always done way way better sniping. Can't wait!

A good BF will explode as I think COD has never been more vulnerable with all their stupid skins
Theres thousands, if not millions of people like me who have NEVER played a BF game, dying for someone to make a serious AAA military shooter without South Park characters running around in it.

COD is ready to be seriously challenged.

This game has me excited and curious to play it.

Is every MP mode huge 64 vs 64 or is there smaller scale/smaller map modes too?

Think Rush is 32 v 32. could be wrong been ages since I played, not sure how it works in this new one.

Its back to 64 players thankfully so 32v32 is the max but there are modes with lower playercount. Rush is usually 32 players and there is tdm etc

Pretty sure there used to be 16v16 CQ and DO game modes with no vehicles
