Ghost of Yoti New Gameplay Trailer

Ghost of Tsushima was never "cutting edge", what the fuck are you talking about?
It is in endless screenshot threads all over the internet because it was so gorgeous, I think that's the point, not that it was using DLSS25.7 and hyperpolartasrization3dcaramba effects.

Anyone know what engine they use? If it hasn't been upgraded much in the past 5 years it would explain a lot.

Thinking about it, I think I know what they have been doing for 5 years: Porting their engine to PC, doing the game on myriads of PC configs then porting it to PS5. That could explain it.
Come on man.....
No need to come-on-man him. That was a PS4 game and it's really not far from this except the shorter draw distances.

Decima, same engine that Horizion Forbidden West and Death Stranding 2 used. So the engine has definitely been upgraded since Tsushima.

Edit: Apparently not 🤷‍♂️

Jesus, did not know that. Doesn't look like Decima at all.
Wut? No. It's not Decima. It's an in-house engine. No name for it as far as I know. Likely overhauled between Infamous and GoT, with incremental, non-RT updates for GoY.

I'm honestly shocked by that, I always thought it was made on Decima. Well, that explains some things, at least.

Whatever it is they need to jettison that shit into the ocean.
For a team that is not tech obsessed, it is hard to invest much in an engine after releasing just one game that it was (likely) overhauled for. I fully expect the next one in 2030s, whatever game that is, to go all out on the latest and greatest. They are kind of in the same boat as SSM was. And I fully expect SSM's next one to be a big leap from Ragnarok as well.

With ND, Intergalactic would be incremental, as TLOU 2 already made a big leap from TLOU. But it probably won't be as dated, since TLOU 2 was already amongst the very best for its time.

All this is assuming these studios still want to build industry leading technology. If that fire has somehow been extinguished with budget constraints and lack of leadership, then.... 🤷‍♂️

Or... they can save time and money by using and contributing to an engine that is already highly advanced, like Decima or Naughty Dog's engine.

I agree with the idea that SP is not marketing this the right way. They should be showing some of the biggest differences from the first game, apart from combat. For example, world exploration.

Besides, the MC has not been introduced in an epic, mysterious or relatable way. If this is a revenge story, you want people engaged before buying the game. I can't understand how they have let the whole conversation about Atsu be hijacked by the wacko VA and social media noise.

For the next one, perhaps? Migrating assets and scripts is no easy feat. But after a decade, it would make sense to overhaul an engine or jump to a new/existing one that's already keeping up with current standards.

It would be nice to see a few bespoke engines and less consolidation among top tier devs though. It gives each of their games a unique look. They would all start looking same-y otherwise. It's a nice-to-have, so if not reinventing the wheel is what is best for the studio, so be it.

Why are we still here? Just to suffer?

Don't stress. The novelty of the shiny coat of paint would wear off after twenty minutes anyway and you'll still be left with the same depressing Ubisoft checklist you've been working on to whittling down for the past decade.

In Dante's 9th circle, we will all play endless Ubisoft games and be forced to uncover all ? areas and kill 50 bandits in maps the size of Texas.
Sony literally makes better polished ass creed games and the crowd goes wild.

both Sly 2 and Infamous 2 were a pretty big jump from the first entry like Uncharted 1>2 level, expected more from Sucker Punch technically so kind of disappointed here. If the game at least have some sort of advance GI system it would have help at lot. Still have hope that they will deliver on the gameplay though. I have faith with Nate Fox.

New lighting system, better animation, brand new environments that make Yotei look distinct from Tsushima, better looking faces. I expected a generational upgrade. Not this:

As I said, similar visual leap like God of War Ragnarok. I've seen enough other videos that the game has graphical upgrades over the first game, so cherry picked YouTube screenshots that are destroyed by compression doesn't really make for a convincing argument. The first game, outside of the artstyle, wasn't some sort of graphical juggernaut either, with some of the worst textures on PS4. So expecting the sequel to be some sort of benchmark for PS5 when most of the rendering budget will be dedicated to the upgraded frame rate and resolution would be setting yourself up for disappointment.

The real concern is if the game itself evolves past the safe Ubisoft style gameplay of the first.

5 years or more to get same game, truly what the point of making it current gen only, they should have make it cross gen like Ragnarok which actually use some rt features on PS5 or HFW which looks far better.

Doesn't look much of a graphical upgrade but i'll still be there day one because i loved the gameplay of the first one and will sure love this one too.

Too much hate here.

GoT is "gorgeous" because of its art direction, splashes of very vivid colours in an otherwise realistic and even muted world.
In terms of visual fidelity, the quality of the assets, it was never that impressive.

I'm of the opinion creativity like your brain is something that you train and flex over time. The more you draw/compose/write, the more ideas you come up with. Interacting with more creatively minded people can rub off on you in positive ways too.

Sorry for bumping up this detour. You can build your own library of others ideas but it really seems to be "wiring" going by science when you're coming up with NEW ideas from creativity.

I googled on it and the popular belief seems to be:
"right brain thinkers"= good creativity and imagination.
"left brain thinkers" = good at logical thinking, analytics, language.

But it's complex and science are still doing research on it. Here's an article:

"Our results suggest that creative people are better able to co-activate brain networks that usually work separately."

This was comical:
"For example, in the study, we showed participants different objects on a screen, such as a gum wrapper or a sock, and asked to come up with creative ways to use them. Some ideas were more creative than others. For the sock, one participant suggested using it to warm your feet – the common use for a sock – while another participant suggested using it as a water filtration system."

lmao this is the "blank" people I mentioned earlier. Good luck trying to get a person like that to come up with a new idea for a game or design or anything. Place them to analyze performance data to better optimize the engine instead.

I legit don't understand what the hell they are doing. Aside from the reveal trailer everything has been ranging from pretty lame to downright terrible.
They've sprinkled bad talent all over the creative side of that company.

How they got to this point is a motherfucking mystery.

Is not Decima for sure, I think is an ancient in-house engine. Let's remember that it didn't even have ragdoll for dead enemies in 2025.

I just think if Sony is going to pride themselves on making amazing looking games and being the platform of really exceptional first party shit, they need to get ALL their fucking studios up to visual parity with eachother. Especially when they're all (unfortunately) making these faux-realistic uncanny valley style games. I can appreciate a studio that excels in mechanics or style or story, but if the game looks like shit compared to their other studios it makes it even more obvious how inconsistent their studios' output can be.

I didn't even play the latest Assassin's Creed game, but even just seeing all the trailers, etc. it feels like it's outpacing this game visually which is a shame.

The Game is about art style not graphics like the Souls games.

It looks good in general and great on the Open world landscapes.

That's the weird part, it should look great in the "hub" areas like towns, but it actually looks better in the more vast open areas you see on horseback. It seems backwards to me.

Tsushima was not an enormous seller, it'll be fine.

"Not an enormous seller" he says, lmao.

There are about 40 games ever released that sold more than 13 million copies. Ghost of Tsushima was an absolute banger and is in the 99.99th percentile in terms of sales numbers.

You're right, I was relatively speaking of the rest of heavy hitters by Sony, tho I probably undersold it.

Especially for a new ip. Normally you would put up the budget tremendously after such a success.

Instead their don't even bother themselves to reach even the quality of Tsushima E3 2018 gameplay which they didn't achieve it on ps4
