Well maybe you should care about the reason so this shit doesn't keep happening.Really don't care about the reason. Sony can eat a bag of dicks for doing this.
2027 is looking more and more likely tbhI will give you something a little more recent even

Going head-to-head with SIE again?2027 is looking more and more likely tbh
Triple threat:
1. Price increases due to tariffs
2. Decreased consumer purchasing power due to overall inflation
3. Mostly non-existent Sony first party library of exclusives this generation
Hard pass.
Not intentionally, gfx13 development is just taking longer than usual.Going head-to-head with SIE again?
I'm not so sure that's their reasoning for pushing everything to the limit on pricing, currently.Excellent post and a good line of discussion.
According to Sony's financials, the fee it take for games sold on its platform constitutes a smaller percentage of its profits every year - though, still a good amount of money overall. The keys to its record breaking success are subscription fees from PS+ and microtransaction revenue from re-occurring purchases made on their PlayStation platforms. As we've also recently heard from their VPs, Sony is looking to move away from a hardware centric model. Both of these pieces of information together mean console install size is no longer their chief priority, which is why I believe Sony will shift away from subsidizing hardware and move to a for-profit hardware business like Nintendo: there's no need to take a loss anymore because they don't have any competition. That alone will lead to a smaller install base overall.
However, I think Sony's new core belief is that they can have their cake and eat it too - PlayStation 5 is the "default" home console, afterall. They haven't put out a large number of first party titles, and half of them haven't performed as well as they expected, and yet, their hardware is doing just fine. In short: Sony won the console war, and now they know it. That's bad for everyone because I think it means Sony believes they can't lose, so why not make as much money as possible. Today's price increase is evidence of that, in my opinion. (Note: the Xbone is a wonderful example of what happens when a console maker thinks it can't lose - hence my concern for next gen.)
Because Sony is de-prioritizing console adoption - they believe it'll come on its own regardless of what they do - this opens up all kinds of business moves that might seem counter-productive. Higher software prices, higher hardware prices, higher service prices. But also less of everything - less capable hardware, less exciting software, less useful services. And Sony will keep doing it until the market turns on them, because that's how capitalism works in 2025. Unfortunately, Sony won the console war - so if the market turns on PlayStation, then it'll either gravitate to Xbox (not likely) or it'll contract entirely as people simply walk away from new consoles and games altogether.
Yes, they will move to countries like India, am I rite? Oh wait, the Orange one got that one too!Sony already mentioned that they are moving away from China, and in a few months we shall see that price will stabilize possibly next year. It is even possible for price cut this coming Christmas season.
Once all companies have move away from China towards other countries with lesser tariffs, and more factories are build in USA, the supply and price will stabilize, due to better negotiations with the government, which will receive more tax incentives, and easier source of raw materials. It will be better in the long run.
Just stop with this low IQ nonsense. Seriously, if your default fall back is "people voted for it so they should be fine" you're not a serious person. I'm not even a Trump fan and think the tariffs are insanely stupid and acknowledge that they play a role in it, but the constant tying back of everything ever to Trump is so damn tiresome. The way Trump lives rent free in some people's brains is pathetic.People voted for it, though, so they should be fine.
Yup. All of them suck.Yup. Same goes for MS.
Lmao, I don't even mind Trump, and it's still true. That's how your system works, you knew well that tariffs went into play and still decided to vote for him. You don't have anyone to blame if this bothers you, perhaps not even Trump himself, but you. That's the power of democracy.Just stop with this low IQ nonsense. Sony came out in the last few months and said the PS5 generation has been more profitable then every console generation ever and just announced a billion dollars in their fiscal year profit and you're going to claim that tariffs on hardware that is 5 + years old make logical sense. The reality is that even with tariffs Sony and all of these dumbass companies could just keep prices steady and should be able to maintain profit margins due to improvements in tech. Tariffs are just a convenient excuse.
But seriously, the seepage of tying every damn thing to a politician you don't like regardless of what side of the aisle you're on is so damn tiresome and played out at this point. Get some new material.

Console manufacturers had the options of eating the cost or adjust their pricings in order to make up for it. Why wouldn't they do the latter? They're not a charity and the US population couldn't have made it clearer that they do not care.
Orange one is always two steps ahead.Yes, they will move to countries like India, am I rite? Oh wait, the Orange one got that one too!![]()
If they were acting in isolation I think this might be a solid argument. But, Nintendo and Microsoft are both doing it. Nintendo is worth less, and Microsoft is worth more. And in terms of software and service pricing, virtually every major publisher is jacking their prices, too. That would mean everyone would be trying to fend off an acquisition for some reason - an acquisition that can't exist for Microsoft, and Nintendo has rejected at least once. Sony isn't the subject of a hostile takeover as best I can tell - in fact, it's Sony who have slowly been buying pieces of other companies. Not sure I see this as clearly as you, sorry.... So IMO I think that is their reason for being laser focused on earnings, because without the protection of being a Japanese company meaning they can't be bought out as a drop in the bucket acquisition - by a Nvidia or Apple or Microsoft - they would have been acquired by now...
Lol, seriously fuck this company this gen. You're supposed to release more exclusive Games and decrease the Price to satisfy your Audience, not the exact opposite
Sorry to my American Brothers and Sisters. Sony feels like the worst of Microsoft lately, seems like their Passion of Gaming is gone overall this Gen. The Gamer friendly Leads stepping down one by one was the first red flag. Pure Corporate Marmite
Someone voted for le orange man.Jim Ryan really partly ruined this Company and dipped. The consequences of wasting all that budget and cancelling the Games seems to be biting them in their arses now![]()

Yep.The Gamer friendly Leads stepping down one by one was the first red flag. Pure Corporate Marmite
I would agree with this, but they increased the prices in Europe as wellSERIOUSLY!!!! But watch some dopes in this thread blame Sony and say they are just being a greedy corporation. As if a 20-30% tariff increase wouldn't change the cost of an imported product.
I can't vote, I'm not even American and don't live there. Nial please stop defending every stupid decision Sony does. Unless you own some stock from them, you're literally celebrating things that will not only not benefit you, but maybe even make the future worse for you regarding GamingSomeone voted for le orange man.![]()

Literally everyone else raised prices as well because the US population voted for it, and your posts about cancelled games causing this are, frankly, ridiculous when you look at actual data (i.e.I can't vote, I'm not even American and don't live there. That's the thing that irks me. Why are you exactly defending them? You want to spend more and get less for your dime? More power to you I guessCorporations are still greedy regardless of this whole tariff situation. As usual, weird Sony fanboys being overly defensive when they don't need to be.
Thanks for that updateNot intentionally, gfx13 development is just taking longer than usual.

"Shit happens, Things change, Time is linear"seems like that wont happen now
What were the reasons for the price increases in Europe before we even knew about Trump's Tariffs?Don't be dumb, the tariffs are the reason for the price increase.
Ever heard of general statements? The overly emotional aggressive response sets it up, not worth addressing that. You know nothing about me, how I vote, or what I believe in. So keep your projection to yourself. I merely stated that tariffs play a role in these price increases but claiming they are the only factor driving them is low IQ nonsense of someone who isn't a critical thinker or locked in an echo chamber. And the people who continue to claim that keep bringing up Trump because he lives rent free in their heads. You are the one who took my comment and injected your smart ass low IQ commentary onto it.
There are other business trends in the gaming industry that have been taking place over the last several years that have been driving prices higher, and they have been going on long before tariffs were ever suggested. $70 games, rising costs of subscription services, forced obsolesce of physical media in order to get a bigger slice of the pie on software sales, accessory prices rising, etc. None of these things can be blamed on tariffs and are part of a larger trend. Let's not forget the hundreds of millions of dollars Sony literally wasted on Concord and their failed GAAS initiative.
As I initially said, do tariffs play a role? Yes. Of course they do. Of course companies are going to pass the costs on to consumers where they can. Since technology costs tend decrease over time, it's hard for me to look at 5 year old hardware suddenly needing a price increase to offset tariff costs when the company is raking in billions of dollars, more than they ever have. When you factor in the other trends in gaming that I mentioned above, it's clear there's more at play here than JUST tariffs. What the split is between trying to squeeze an extra dollar out of their consumers and tariffs I have no idea.
Ah yes, whining about 50 bucks when the alternative was 9% inflation that you paid every day and likely higher taxes. But 50 bucks! Oh noes!! Fuck off with that shit.
Ever heard of general statements? The overly emotional aggressive response sets it up, not worth addressing that.
Yes, we know that there are other factors, TSMC prices not going down are precisely the reason they can't eat the tariffs expenses, as consoles selling at a loss 5 years into the generation would be completely unprecedented, and just detrimental to how they have largely and traditionally operated.
Sony clearly stated back in May that they had 3 months worth of hardware shipments for the US, everything they had shipped since - and will now sell beginning this month - were AFTER the effects of tariffs. It's not hard science, it's a fucking 50 USD price difference, what else do you think it's going to be? Concord? Do you have any idea how any of this actually works?
Be like this guy below and just suck it up, because your unhinged "hurr durr Trump rent free" meltdowns are, in all honesty, quite embarrassing to witness.
Thanks.![]()
I can tell you're a bright one.
British insider Joke, Google itWhat the hell is a Katie Price?
Trump having such psychic powers, he can retroactively make Sony increase prices in other countries as well way before the public knows about the Tariffs in the USLiterally everyone else raised prices as well because the US population voted for it, and your posts about cancelled games causing this are, frankly, ridiculous when you look at actual data (i.e.reinking 's post above).
They were a known entity by then, what are you talking about?Trump having such psychic powers, he can retroactively make Sony increase prices in other countries as well way before the public knows about the Tariffs in the US![]()
I also hate moneyI love when peasants get so mad over 40 50 bucks
So, you believe the tariffs made them increase in Europe (2022) and japan (2024)... More power to you nial They were a known entity by then, what are you talking about?
TSMC prices getting more expensive, and the yen being so fucked (plus scalpers) in those cases. Though I do think the ones in JP were extremely egregious. So, you believe the tariffs made them increase in Europe (2022) and japan (2024)... More power to you nial
Tariff's are definitely a factor, but don't believe for a second these companies won't use any disruption as an excuse to jack their prices well above covering the difference. The PlayStation 5 has made more profit than all other generations of PlayStation combined - and Sony is still raising prices. They don't want to cover the difference, they don't want to deliver value, they don't want happy players - they want every single fucking cent their customers have and they're done playing nice. Tariffs or not - if Sony can get away with it, everyone else will follow suite and they'll all keep going until the market crashes.
