Randy Pitchford on Borderlands 4 Criticism: ''Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers' i

After a launch last week mired in optimisation complaints, stuttering woes, and crashes. In response, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has been busy batting off critique regarding the game's performance on his X account over the weekend—although his comments don't appear to have gone down as well as he might have hoped.

"Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers. Just as Borderlands 4 cannot run on a PlayStation 4, it cannot be expected to run on too-old PC hardware," he posted on Saturday. "This is not a game made to run on 10-year-old PCs… if you're trying to drive a monster truck with a leaf blower's motor, you're going to be disappointed."

'Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers' is Randy Pitchford's tone deaf retort to the performance backlash: 'If you're trying to drive a monster truck with a leaf blower's motor, you're going to be disappointed'

Someone in his PR department should take his social media away.

Someone ask him if he is taking everyone's bonuses again?

What this greasy retard doesn't seem to understand is that his devs and those companies can say all the stuff they want, but in the end the one's who's right will always be the customer. If the customer says your game runs like shit while not looking much better than the previous ones, then you've done a very shit job, period.

Bl4 doesn't even run that bad on my pc but dude should learn to read the room and shut up when most people are having problems.

A cell shaded game didn't needed to be made in ue5.

While I'm in no way agreeing with the way in which he's saying this and there's undeniable proof his "premium" game runs like arse even on "premium" PC Hardware, underneath all the layers of stupid he has a small point.
It's about time we let go of old hardware, start progressing things again. The PS5 is 5 years old now, time to move on.

The game just starts stuttering for no discernable reason after a couple of hours of play. This happened on PS5 Pro, in both coop and solo.

Fix is restarting from the main menu, I'm kinda reluctant to play more until that's fixed tbh.

Calling Borderlands 4 premium is like calling KFC fine dining. Borderlands as a franchise is the gaming equivalent of McDonald's mystery meat. Bloated with meaningless loot and recycled jokes that make you cringe and missions so bland they could be microwaved. It's industrialized mass-produced trash pretending to be fun.

To me, the craziest thing is not UE5 itself, its how absolutely terrible of a job developers are doing to actually optimize with UE5.

Its definitely partially the engine as a problem, but Sonic Racing Crossworlds uses UE5 (no lumen or any RT stuff at all) and runs on a literal toaster (my 9070 on a HTPC setup was only using like 30% of the GPU at 4k 60fps max settings), so clearly shit like Lumen is just a complete performance burden and should be avoided by most devs until Epic fixes how crap it runs.

This is actually the best statement I've heard him make. The premium gamers line sounds bad but in context he was comparing cell phone gamers to someone new pc gamers.

Doesn't excuse his game not being optimized well for the recommended specs of course.

I played 2 for a little while years ago and didn't like the cartoony graphics, but i've just seen some gameplay from the trailer of 4 on the Steam forums, i hope his premium PC to play this game didn't cost too much because if it did, he was ripped off lol

I liked Borderlands 2, couldn't be arsed trying 3. Definitely not going near 4 just because how much Randy has demonstrated how much of a colossal wank he is over the past few weeks.
