Hollow Knight Silksong Has Already Reached 1/3 The Sales Of The Original Hollow Knight: 3.2 Million Units On Steam, 500k On PlayStation, 500k On Switch, And 1.5 Million "Downloads" On Xbox Game Pass

Ahead of its release, Silksong was the most wishlisted game on the platform with 4.8m wishlists. It seems the majority of these have converted into full sales. That's all led to large numbers of concurrent players - Silksong reached a concurrent player peak of over 587k two days after release, making it the 17th most played game on Steam.

These sales are according to analysis from GameDiscover in its latest newsletter, which adds Silksong has sold around 500k copies each on PlayStation and Switch (both consoles), as well as reaching 1.5m downloads on Xbox Game Pass.

They seems bad for a $20 hyped to heaven and back game.

I mean team cherry is winning no matter what but I expected a LOT more…

Hollow Knight had long legs and I'm sure didn't hit huge on launch and earned the sales over time. Silksong could too. 5m is a huge number of SALES(not players).

It's just like the first one to me. Play a few hours, get bored, uninstall. I've played so many metroidvania's it has to be really unique to me. Congrats to the devs though, they deserve it.

Assuming those numbers are correct, I expected more from a game that brought down all the major storefronts on release.

Still respectable numbers though.

"Downloads on Xbox Game Pass" are not sales
Well of course not. The whole point of Game Pass is you pay for the service so you don't have to pay to purchase a title. Hence why they pay developers/ publishers a fee up front if they want to publish right into Game Pass, as well as undisclosed payments after release. You wouldn't buy Stranger Things on Blu Ray after you watched it on Netflix. 🤷‍♂️

Right, I'm more pointing out that the article seems to be counting these as 'sales' in their estimation. It doesn't really matter, the game is a big success either way.

Maybe I am too old. I just tried to play through the original Hollow Night. Good game but just too challenging for me to where I found it more frustrating than fun. Was going to buy Silk Song but most are saying it is even harder. I wish all the developers good luck and glad they are succeeding just not for me.
