Pokemon Black/White are the best Pokemon games

No it's still Gold and Silver to me. Best Rival. Perfect roster size. 2 regions to explore. Everything was perfect.
I am with you on this one. Gold/Silver/Crystal is where Pokemon peaked. Arguably the remakes as well: SoulSilver and whatever the fuck the gold remake was called.

They're certainly not my favorites. No National Dex is a big downer for me. Black and White 1 though are games I can respect. The most new pokemon in any generation ever because they recycled nothing. Not even the mascot characters come back. Grabbing some old pokemon to go with the new ones has (well, had) always been something I'd like doing playing these games.

These games are also pretty full of content, and Gamefreak went the extra mile animating every single sprite for every pokemon. Everything's not a pushover too. BW2 are the peak in that regard. After this generation pokemon became piss easy for no good reason.

There's some really good games in the franchise. Emerald, SS/HG, Black/White. It's been downhill following the DS entries however Arceus was a great game.

Yeah, that's always the thing that pushes it over the edge for me relative to the rest. That was such a cool addition.

And I also really love the legendaries of those games. Lugia especially.
Cool part to me is each version focuses on a Legendary that you capture at level 40/45 and postgame you get to capture the other a key location at level 70. Whether it's the Tower or the Center of the Whirl Islands.

Alongside releasing the 3 legendary Dogs and the mystery of the Unown.

The overarching mystery of who your Rival is, connections to Team Rocket and what happened to Giovanni. And subsequently your Rival's growth from treating Pokemon less like tools and more like a friend.

Becoming the Champion and going to Kanto where the game is a little tougher and you can go find the Legendary Birds in 3 locations. Elevated in the remake where Mewtwo was added to the Cerulean Cave. Whereas in the original it was cut and was Flooded from collapsing.

Eventually the game ends with one of the most iconic Superbosses in the franchise against the OG Protagonist Red himself. Thematically using an Anime and Manga inspired team of Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise, Snorlax, Espeon, Pikachu. Espeon was later swapped out for Lapras in the Remakes. Another Anime influence.

Such a perfect game. No other game to this point has given Pokemon players the most badges to acquire. 16 as opposed to the standard 8.

It was back then I always dreamed of an even more perfect Pokemon game that allowed us to travel and challenge and explore every region to date.

Great times. Tyranitar still my favorite Pokemon.

And of course battle themes of legend

Amen to that!

Still have mines here and its one of rare ocasions where I replay the game over and over again.

They will never made something like that again though. OST is great, story is great and even the characters are great!

Emerald was the goat. So many memories like trying to hatch eggs overnight by having the dpad taped down and biking over and over a slope. Then there was extra content like the battle frontier (never got a symbol but it was fun for me to try). Also being able to use a glitch to clone Pokémon and masterballs. It was fun fighting both team magma and aqua and the rivalry between the weather trio felt legit, like the whole world was going to end as a result of all this. I also remember looking for Jirachi after hearing online that you could catch him by interacting with the lone white stone by the Mossdeep City space center. It might be a lot of nostalgia, but emerald will always be the best Pokémon game imo.

No better feeling then breeding the perfect Pokemon Army with the best Egg moves. Best Nature. Best passive ability and personally EV training it. Blood. Sweat. Tears.

As opposed to Pokegenning them on the fly.

And when there was only a Link Cable or the Wireless Adapter it brought friends and people together because if you were a great breeder they came to you for that specialized Pokemon.

I really have no fucking clue why Nintendo hasn't capitalized on these older Pokemon games that are clearly people's favorites yet and either release them through NSO or as standalone purchases or remasters or something

I wish they'd do that. But they want people to buy the new ones. If they release the old ones that are better, who's going to buy the new ones.

Any of the DS games are the correct answer.

But Johto is grossly overrated. Shit level creep, mediocre Pokemon selection, barely any trainers to fight. Most Johto Pokemon are not very good.

I rarely go back to Johto, it's just a Kanto remix.

Amazing sprites, but Heart Gild and Soul Silver are the best.

Modern games lack the amazing sprites (SV sticker sprites were boring), and crucially the good characters/great story telling. Story telling has been awful for ages, it's a crying shame. It'd be great if NPCs can stop drinking the Pokemon koolaid and go beyond just "Pokemon are soooo good. What would I ever do without my Psyduck". Like damn, I get it, but more substance, please.

Literally can't have any good Pokemon discussion on this board lmao. You just have nostalgia rats going LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU GEN ONE/TWO ARE GOATED.

Show me your clear save data for Black/White. I want proof you've actually beaten and played the game.

I do like black and white. I need to replay black 2 and white 2. Snivy is one of my fav starters. I think BW has an argument for best in the series (at least best graphics) but overall I like the atmosphere of Hoenn more and I think all in all I like the look of diamond/pearl/platinum more.

Sun/Moon is probably my personal GOAT. I think it's underrated. I also think XY is underrated and the optimism for Z-A shows people are acknowledging more what XY offered.

I respect this more than anything else in the thread but X/Y I think are really not good. Alola Pokemon all being slow is kinda insane though.

Haven't played the DS/3DS/Switch games but Gold/Silver/Crystal were such a huge leap in almost every way possible that I can't imagine the later games beating them in terms of sheer wow-factor. It's also crazy that Gold/Silver could be played on a OG Gameboy.

Its about the vibe and i don't like the vibe of b/w. I'm not playing Pokemon for the story. Plus the original is only gen 1&2 where the Creator was involved and to some extent gen 3 i think.

No wonder the fan base is splitted exactly there, the casuals don't know it, so its not even biased. The Creator must have been doing something right, thats why gen 1-2 is the GOAT for so many people and why many left after that gen without even knowing the fact.

I don't even dislike anything after gen 3. Just the shit soulless switch games.

G&S best in its era.

Ruby/Sapphire was goat though. Best mix of everything before.

I tried the one 'set in paris' but the changed PoVs in town totally confused me.

First Pokemon thread seen on hear in a while and OP is making out Heart Gold and Soul Silver doesn't exist is wild, Heck Emerald would be considered neck & neck with gold and silver.

There is a reason why Black Bolt and White Flair packs can still be found in store and why the games I listed going for triple digits on eBay for boxed copy and even lose copy on Emerald non-repo copy's.

1. Gen 3 - Refined gen 2 and some great Pokémon designs. Better than Gen 2 because it was good to get a new map, and new features were more interesting. Secret bases were good fun, as was the related two types of bicycle.

2. Gen 2 - Expanded so much on gen 1, with massive map and lots of new features (e.g. crafting pokéballs) as well as fantastic Pokémon designs.

3. Gen 1 (I'll accept Leaf Green and Fire Red, both Gen 3) - Iconic, simple Pokémon designs - no fluff.

I really liked gen 6 too. The 3D was nice, roller skates were a nice addition, and there were some nice Pokémon designs.

ORAS Slaps! I still keep my 3DS charged up just to jump back in every 6 months or so. Wish these just got a straight port to Switch 2 in a master collection,

I love the Alola region. I thought Z moves were a great regional gimmick because all Mon could benefit from them and some Mon got exclusive z moves which sort of scratched the mega/dynamax for some Mon itch. I felt regional variants were a brilliant idea for getting more out of existing Mon. It included the previous regions gimmick (mega evolution). And again, I just love the atmosphere of the region. It's too cutscene heavy but aside from that, I don't have much to complain about.

People didn't leave after that Gen, Pokemania was over. lmao. It was a fad, the DS games offer more quality improvements than Gen 1/Gen 2 ever did but you still ain't posted your save bro. 🤷‍♂️

black and white are badass games my favorite for sure.

I am scared because black white are next in line for remake when seen horrible dp remake

I am an old man, so Gen 1 is my favorite. But I still go back and replay black/white 1&2 pretty often. It played so well and had a good selection of pokemon.

HG/SS is the GOAT. It incorporated all of the best aspects of the previous generations, was the largest and most realized world of Pokemon with multiple regions, and featured the physical/special split which made so many more pokemon from gen 1 actually useful.

I am a gen 1 fan, and if it had received the same treatment as HG/SS that may be my answer, but right now FR/LG is just a close second. B/W is probably just after that though, along with OR/AS.

It was not a fad. & Fuck the wobbly jaggy graphic ds games i get nauseous just looking at it. I'm glad black and white was well deserved the worst selling mainline pokemon games, even on the best selling Nintendo console.
