Competition is good, Nintendo decided to update MKW.

Lets be honest they really put off a bunch of folks to the point where online session were getting filled with bots. They need to start adding more tracks or some kind of content.

Gameplay of sonic racing is not nearly up to Mario kart's standards, but it's not bad and I am ashamed to admit that unlockable sega ips is big fun for me. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I see a lot of animosity towards MKW around. I mean, Nintendo tries something different for once and people are up in arms… The game is good, it's just that MK8 was unquestionably the best the series ever got and following that one up was very hard to do.

Sonic looks fun, but uninspiring. I'm sure it will be good, but the genre is at an evolutionary dead end and has been for a while. Kart racing lives and dies by controls and track design, the rest is eye candy. And yeah, deal with it: it's a genre for normies and casuals. Nobody is hosting home competitive splitscreen kart racing parties, and the few who care to get really good soon outclass the others so much that it isn't fun anymore. These are party games at their core. Which is why, if you hadn't noticed, they're all cutesy mascot games.

I may buy Sonic Racing further down the line, so I hope it plays well and reviews well. Which seems to be the case, actually. I only wonder how many scores were inflated a bit just to spite MKW.

CCU is TEam Sonic Racing X10 and growing...

We'll have new Sega caharacters for sure

I still think it was a dumb mistake to not just make Mario Kart into a multi-franchise series. Don't call it something stupid like super smash kart, but Mario Kart - subtitle that implies a clashing of worlds would still be fun. Mario Kart World felt like the most boring, and safe Mario Kart, especially after how great MK8D was.

Yeah specially with the cool Zelda DLC in MK8, having some sort of "Nintendo Kart" felt like a good next evolution.
I do sort of feel the same about this game though, I'd be more interested if they had made a proper Sega racer with characters and tracks from a variety of Sega franchises, instead of making it primarily Sonic themed with guest characters (many of them as paid DLC).

MARIO KART OPEN (boring) WORLD!

METROID OPEN (empty)WORLD!

Nintendo boys: AMAGAAAAD! SO MUCH INNOVATION!

It's crazy to me that after MK8 had Link and Animal Crossing, MKW has no non-Mario characters. I feel like they might have been held back for paid DLC. Sega's marketing team and game designers did a great job here.

Having now played through both games, I had a great time with both of them.

Mario Kart World is the better game in my opinion, as the "feel" is just more satisfying and tactile, but Crossworlds is no slouch and is a very well made kart racer in its own right.

Some people don't get it.

Of course, MKW will still have stellar sales (Nintendo marketed the franchise for decades, family, Friends will keep buying it, plus...it's bundled with the console)

But... a looooooot of Nintendo fans don't like it like they loved MK8.
They hate intermissions, it's known, just listen to them.

(It's a Nintendo fan showing the rage among Nintendogs)

Yeah, MKW will sell a looot but opened a window for challengers. Many fans, fans within the press admit it: it's boring...and they want to fill the void.
Lucky rivals...

Having sunk a few solid hours into Sonic Racing Crossworlds and playiong Mario Kart World I think it is quite easy for me to say that Sonic (obviously) looks far better (I am playing it on PC) yet for the 2 most important things in a racing game- controls and track design, well, Mario Kart World smashes Sonic Racing Crossworlds quite easily. Mario Kart is unparalleled in controls, especially when it comes to drifting. And I quite enjoy Crossworlds but World kills it.

Will Sega co-develop the new Ecco game with their Sapporo Studio?

Ecco in Crossworlds?

Alexios Alexios

Oh no... 🤣 don't tell me, you're that kind of hybrid Sega-Nintendo fans triggered for little jokes on the fat ugly plumber 😂.

It's okay saying that open worlds doesn't work for every genre 😜.

And yeah, a lot of gamers are simply not into that new MKW formula.
Yes, MKW will still break the rivals in sales but yes many people (Nintendo fans included) find a better energy in a less polished Crossworlds (no shit, MKW was being developed even before Crossworlds...and Team Sonic Racing!!!)

Between you and me, 😜
it's is not the first time in history that Nintendo delivers a more polished product, they always took more time to produce games.(remember Daytona on the Saturn) We didn't like Sega for that.
It was for the energy.
They had energy during the Dreamcast Era.
Good news, they have that energy back due to Shuji Utsumi (no shit, he was also behind Dreamcast's amazing lineup)
New Virtua Fighter : GO BIG OR GO HOME (new slogan from the producer), new Alien Isolation, new Crazy Taxi, new Jet Set Radio and a new Sonic Racing to provoke Mario. (Crossworlds praised MKW's update and said it was good for both to improve their games... he has a good vibe, spirit) 🥳

The Initial D team did a special sauce for the gameplay.

They used Sega Rally as a base and mixed it with Outrun elements.
Some staff have rythm game background, some other worked under Sasaki (Mister Sega Rally), Arai (Initial D) or even Yu Suzuki at AM Plus programming the wacky Sega Race TV.

All these elements explain the rythm, the madness of Sonic Racing Crossworlds.
It takes time to feel that special flavor and depth...

If the demo is not a particularly old build compared to the full game, i certainly did not feel that secret sauce in the gameplay and i love Sega arcade racers.
The game plays good enough mind you but that's surely not up to the other titles cited, by quite a long shot.

The thing is it's their first kart racer while Transformed had 3 episodes to perfect its gameplay... Mario Kart had a shitload of sequels and MKW had been developed in 8 years... (X2 Crossworlds)

A kart racer is more than the handling (Transformed has great feels but the items were pretty lackluster... On the other hand, Crossworld has a great gadget system)

That's true Initial D team didn't deliver its best handlings but they improved their game after each update, it's their DNA (listening, improving)

Crossworlds is already a very good game but it could be fantastic if Sega keeps updating/improving it and add new content very often.
