Watched The Long Walk in the cinema theater.

It's a horror, but it's not, if that makes sense. Especially the bond between the walkers was well done and Hamill played the piece of shit quite well too.

Next up: Together and the latest/last Conjuring. Not even going to bother with the Strangers. The first one was nothing special for me, the second one was stupid as fuck and I don't need more of that nonsense.

Maybe I'll watch all The Conjuring movies again too before I go to the new one. The spin offs such as Annabelle and Nun are not necessary, right? Rather not watch that trash The Nun again.

Despite all the poor reviews I watched Him and quite enjoyed it. I don't know anything or care remotely about American football so wasn't bothered by how accurate anything to do with that was. If you've seen the trailer you've basically seen/can figure out the plot, it's about as subtle as a brick to the face but it looked stylish.
 
I'm getting old. The wait between Jason X and the Friday reboot felt far, far longer than these 16 years (Christ) since that itself released.

Will no doubt be another remake, sadly.

I'd prefer if they did a quick montage at the start, then pick up with Zombie Jason some time after New York.

My real dream movie would be Raimi directing a 3-way crossover with Ash (Bruce is a must), Jason, and Myers.

Hamill was surprisingly good in it. Yeah, it's more of a dystopian drama with some horror elements. I quite liked it, haven't read the book, but it seemed like a lot of thought went into the movie and all the actors brought their A-game.
 
AMF fearfest is great but it always irks me how they don't play the movies in order from part 1. They'll start with like part 3 then 4 then 5 then 1 then 2 for example. why not just start at part 1 and go through it when you're going to play them all anyway in order but starting at a sequel? Drives my OCD insane.
 
It Follows. I don't get it. Comparisons with Halloween I've seen online make me not get it even more.

Just watched it, finally.

Absolute pile of fucking shit. Whatever the drugs people are on that rate this movie so highly, I want the dealers number.

So I was wondering about this as well until I read that It Follows is a allegory for STDs. I wish I could remember where I read that but it made me think of it in a new light.

My daughter and I went to see it on Friday, it's a Conjuring movie is all I can say, you get whats in the box, not the scariest one, few creepy moments but if you've seen one you've seen em all, we done the entire Conjuring universe playthrough, don't ask me for a favourite as they're all pretty similar lol

Which would be fine if there was some actual STORY to go along with that subtext!

But there isn't. There's a cool setup, and then.... nothing, Just a bunch of whiny teens sat around in a conveniently (for the lazily written script) hazy, empty, netherworld where nothing is allowed to highlight the fact that the supernatural threat is actually kinda crap.

When this mediocrity got hailed as a modern classic it really rammed home to me the utterly dire state of the genre.

I dunno I must admit I'm not the most creative of types. On that budget definitely something in the psychological horror genre, maybe like The Thing but purely the group just losing it and topping each other, no monster involved.
 
Apparently ExistenZ is horror so I'll talk about it here. It was a lot better than I remembered it. Its organic gaming systems were disgustingly wonderful and the whole movie with its practical effects has aged beautifully. I loved how it was filled with the bones and intestines of amphibians and how dirty everything seemed.

Would recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it and wants a gaming related movie.

It's fine. Time is a flat circle.

Psychology is one of the most powerful, long lasting and thought provoking sub genres in horror.

Jacob's Ladder, In the Mouth of Madness and etc.

It doesn't even have to make sense. I don't understand these films and yet they struck a chord with me.

You can dissect them like a corpse in a morgue. People analyze Scorcese, weirdos dissect Cronenberg.

Just be weird but don't insult people's intelligence because they're paying to see it.

I capped it at eleven because that is the budget for Alien (dir. Ridley Scott). Alternatively, The Blair Witch Project also made bank using a freaking Wallmart (rental) video recorder. It's fascinating.

I questioned my reality after the ending of that film. Best mindfuck yet. Can you call it a mindfuck?

It genuinely rewrote my brain for a while. But unlike The Matrix, I felt uneasy.

Edit: I watched this when I was really young (on VHS) but it was only that when I watched it again as an adult that I got the shivers.

PSA - Ju-On is finally available for purchase on digital platforms. It's up for preorder but I don't see any release date. Hopefully this means we'll get everything like Ringu.

Nice. I haven't watched them for many years. I had a dvd box set that came with a bunch of ring films plus a free bonus film about a girl with a glass brain(?) that woke up from a coma. It's nothing to do with the ring films, but I think it had the same director.

Edit: it's called sleeping princess.

I watched [REC] 2. Really solid, probably better than the first one other than it not having that absolute beauty Spanish girl as the lead. Going to try [REC] 3 soon, but it looks like it has a different cast entirely.

I do not recommend watching the sequels unless you have a high tolerance for bullshit.

I enjoyed it. Great atmosphere and the 'monster' is unique and creepy. I like the way the movie puts you in the protagonist shoes by having the monsters be in the frame so you are constantly searching for it. As a deconstruction of the teenage sex = death in horror movies trope or an allegory for STDs I don't think it has much to say - but I thought it was enjoyable as a creepy movie.

If I remember correctly it wasn't about STDs, it was about sexual abuse trauma. For example the main characters seem to be anachronistic in comparison to one another, which might symbolize the time when they were assaulted so they are "stuck" in that time. Many STDs can also be medically dealt with relatively quickly, but trauma, especially of the sexual nature, is something that can follow a person for the rest of their lives. There are many more examples on reddit.

Type [ Spoiler ] no spaces, then the text, amd end with [ /spoiler ] no spaces. I usually test it with just test between the tags to make sure it is working correctly, then go back and edit replacing test with the info.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is my GOAT slasher series but when it comes to a breakdown of the top 3 slashers (imo anyway, some people may have different answers, I just feel these are the top series most people have somewhere):

Halloween has the best soundtrack and Micheal Myers is the scariest (he doesn't actually scare me but I'm sure you'll understand what I mean here) because he's the one who is the most realistic. He can be your neighbor, a nut in a mask. Dr. Loomis is such a great character as well. The Halloween series has the most shit entries though imo.

A Nightmare on Elm Street has the best most creative story to me plus Freddy rules. In Freddy's Revenge, he looks fucking terrifying, especially the pool scene by the fire, that shot haunts me forever. I just don't put him as scariest in the same sense as Michael cuz I'm not sitting here thinking Freddy in his already burnt to death form is realistic so I'm not feeling uneasy about him irl. Dream Warriors is my favorite. The Dream Child, New Nightmare and the stupid Remake are all tied for worst, just total garbage to me.

Friday the 13th has multiple entries I like. 1-3, 4 is ok, 6 and 7 are the best, 8 is terrible but fun to watch when you haven't seen it in a while and I thought the remake was surprisingly good. 5 was absolute shit, one of the dumbest plots ever, 9 and X are pathetic and I wasn't a fan of Freddy vs Jason.

If we want to toss in the OG The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for a bonus, that to me is the scariest movie I've ever seen and scary movies don't normally actually scare me. Leatherface is like Michael as in he can be your neighbor….shout out to Ed Gein.


I don't mind more VS movies for fun but they should keep Chucky out of it (there was an old rumor they wanted to do Freddy vs Chucky). I like the first Child's Play movie but having anyone vs Chucky would just be so ridiculously stupid.

I know a lot of people really love the first one but I prefer the 2003 sequel with Jessica Biel, it's just perfectly made from beginning to end.

I know a few people who like this one a lot. It has been a very long time since I've seen it though so I can honestly say I don't really remember it much. I only watched it once and that was when it came out. I am gonna put it on my list of movies this month and then I'll have to revisit this thread with thoughts.

Ok, so about Together (2025)


So the neighbor dude tells Allison Brie's character that she wouldn't like the alternative. Which is the fate of the missing couple. But what I wonder is how did they merge into that creature, was it solely because they kept fighting against it and the two main characters basically didn't?
