Have you ever "quit" gaming?

And it really resonated with me. Growing up I couldn't imagine ever quitting gaming but as an adult it started losing its luster and I quit for quite awhile. Even now I don't play all that much.

Yes and Demon's Souls saved me and my hobby from that awful, AWFUL generation

No but I have quit YouTube due to fake reactions and home alone fk face attention seeking engagement click baiting clips and ai trailers and more
I quit tv for gaming and goto movies now and again

I have never quit gaming as a whole but I have quit some types of gaming. Played solo League of Legends from like 2010 or 11, uninstalled it in 2015 and it was the best decision I ever made, I then quit most other multiplayer games that I used to play alone, now whenever I play one I do it with friends or I don't do it at all.
There are exceptions, I play the likes of Battlefield, Hell Let Loose and Squad alone but those are different types of games and the people (in the case of HLL and Squad) are usually pretty cool and chill.

I quit MMOs, if that counts.

This was many years ago, but they were having a significant hold on my life. I was lucky to be young enough and catch myself before it became too big of an issue.

These days, I can't really go more than a couple of hours of gaming before needing a breather, or being restless and wanting to do something else.

Nope, never. Had dry spells due to IRL commitments and can go quite a while without getting new releases. But I thoroughly enjoy this hobby and will keep on gaming until they rip the controller out my dead hands.

Nope. I go through periods where my game time dips dramatically. It happens around spring and then picks back up in summer. Not sure why. I get sidetracked and distracted by other hobbies, I think.

Nah. I have a healthy relationship with the hobby AND multiple hobbies. If I'm not enjoying one, I take a break and do something else.

I try not to make too much of a fuss either way. Like, i practically dont watch movies anymore, doesn't mean i quit movies. I may still watch something every now and then.

No, I've never completely quit, but when I was in the Army I didn't have a great deal of time for it. Now, working on my third degree, and it's easily the most difficult of my degrees, admittedly I'm essentially not playing at all currently, but I can't wait to play again somewhat consistently next year when I finish this one up. I may go for a fourth degree if I'm relatively close after wrapping this one up, but I haven't decided yet, and honestly I'm kinda over college at this point, and I'm fuckin old and I wanna play some vidjy before it's too late -_-.

tldr: Yep, quit twice, went from Famicom → SNES → DS → Wii → Switch.

I played from child to maybe 18 or 19 years old, when I started university in 97 or 98, had a Famicom clone and a SNES, fortunately bought most RPGs which are pretty expensive nowadays to get. The VR32 and the Ultra 64 were already showing previews when I stopped caring much about gaming, but then kept my SNES connected til end of century. Then I returned in 2004 or 2005, I skipped N64 and GC to buy a DS and then a Wii, was active for like 4 or 5 years, then quit before Wii U was even hinted at (not even 3DS was hinted at from what I remember). I have several DS and Wii sealed games that I bought but never opened. Then I returned in 2023 with the Switch oled, was going to buy one a Tolueno which is one of those USB retro consoles because I had bought a Logitech gamepad to play Mame games and wanted something for the TV but the place was sold out, so I bought a Switch instead. Still going strong, but I know I will eventually quit again once my interest fades.

I've been burnt out on gaming or I sometimes flip flop between games and don't play anything, but I've never quit.

Even when it's slow, I consume gaming news every day, so I never fall out of touch with it.

You'll have to pry this hobby out of my cold, dead hands.

Funny because I didn't game much at all in the 2000s. A game here and there tops. A friend showed me Demon's Souls one night at a party at his house, I was like yea whatever. When Dark Souls came out he talked me into buying that and I lost my mind over that game. Kickstarted my passion for games again.

I never consciously quit, but from when my kids were born to they were around ten, gaming wasn't a part of my life. Pretty much during the PS and PS2 years, had other priorities.

No not really, there are periods of time that i don't game at all, but it's not quitting, if there isn't any new games i have wanted to play or i'm not in the mood to replay any older ones i just don't game for that amount of time but i always return to it.

No. But I have quit Nintendo for a little bit and came back years later and now I think I'm back to quitting Nintendo again.

Today I saw 11 switch 2's at Walmart. Didn't care. And I can easily spend $500 on that MK bundle.

Not "quit" per se; it was more like I took spontaneous breaks. Gaming has been my main form of entertainment since I was very young. Twice I have put down a controller and then left it there for about six months without consciously intending to. They were just "breaks" that happened organically and I let them ride.

In recent years my gaming time has diminished tremendously due to the overall corporatization and monetization of gaming, and also the multiplayer/online gaming community. I read about games, post about games, and watch Twitch more than I actually play. The next two months are chocked full of potential though, so I am hopeful to get more gaming in again.

Thanks for the cool topic.

I constantly go through phases of not giving a shit. The key is not forcing it or mindlessly playing to pass the time. Be intentional. When something comes it'll reignite the fun.

I play so little now that I've essentially quit. Just interested in other things right now - maybe I'll become interested again, if not, no big deal.

I prefer reading about games to playing them for the most part.

I did around 18yo, left the family house so had to focus on figuring my shit out and also focus on me and having nightlife and dating.
Im in my thirties now with my wife and im chilling and loving gaming.

I never quit, but there have been some periods where I barely gamed for months on end. I also stepped away from console gaming from 2010 to 2017 after being really disappointed by that generation and how things were trending at the beginning of the PS4/XB1/Wii-U gen. I took a chance on the Switch and it drew me back in, then got a PS4 in 2018 after the onslaught of awesome titles started dropping and have been back to owning Nintendo/Sony console since. There are so many games I have in my backlog now, it's overwhelming and I can't find enough time to play everything I want to (or to replay old favorites).

For sure.

There's been years I play 1-2 games, and other years I play at least a dozen games.

Not quite sure how people play thousands of hours per year as an adult. I don't have kids, pets, and am not currently in a relationship, and I still couldn't manage that much time gaming.

I come in and out of the hobby TBH. Feast or famine as anything I missed out on I wind up binging to get "caught up". The worst was not really playing much new from 2017-2021 and trying to catch up on a bunch I skipped on (e.g. Demon's Souls, TLOU2, Hollow Knight, etc) in 2023+.

That said, I think I may be playing less and less going forward. I have an 18 month old and would like to have more children plus get more involved in my job. Need to be more selective about what I'm playing. I've gotten better about that, dropping games I'm not vibing with after an hour or two instead of just powering through and getting minimal enjoyment.
