How is it even possible for a developer to fall off this hard though?

The actual truth is that Bioware was never that good. They had a small period of time where they were copying D&D rulesets into digital format, and no one else was. They used a very similar template and remade almost the same game over and over.

They were one of the first studios out there to really push WRPG style voice acting and choices. It was novel, and that made them successful. They had a very, very small period of true brilliance when they combined their cRPG design senabilities with a more mainstream gamer approach and it worked. They still had their feet in detailed cRPGs, but were trying to streamline it and make it more accessible. This resulted in KOTOR 1, Dragon Age 1, Mass Effect 1 and 2. That's their peak. After that, they sold the company to EA at their peak because they had nowhere else to go and their downfall was nearly inevitable. Over time they would design more for casuals, and EA would push more design for profit / mainstream. The rest is history.

We're now about to see if Owlcat can do it better. They're in the goldilocks zone now with The Expanse. They are taking their rich history in cRPGs and detail and starting to make it more accessible. I predict we'll get some great stuff for maybe 10 years, then they will likely decline too if they get bought out. It's all pretty logical if you just look at it from a distance.

Get a big team of people that cost an enormous amount of money to work together for an extended amount of time to create a critically acclaimed work of art.

Sound easy? Great, now do it again, and again, and again. Nothing can ever go wrong.

Ask the director of Veilguard.

Oh good, more "woke" discussion, that's always new and interesting.
Wow you didn't get permed? Mods must've not seen all the shit you said last time or they would've upgraded you for sure. Insulting the whole board is usually a sure fire way to get permed. Bravo on somehow dodging that bullet. It'll be interesting to see how long you can last before you start calling everybody incels again, especially considering your high rate of posting.
