Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month, Ultimate gets Ubisoft+ Classics and more

so.... Xbox is fucked, right?
Depends on which of the options they're going with. If they're killing Game Pass to return to selling games focus - and actually use the ABK executives they purchased to get their fucking game output fixed - they might do well. If they've misunderstood the market because Microsoft's suites are trying to run Xbox the same way they run Azure, yeah - Xbox is fucked.

Hmm, what happened in the middle of 2023? I vaguely remember that many people predicted this outcome of the events happened at that time.
Exactly, but nobody listened and the merger closed. where is all the CMA/FTC hate now?
CMA:
Prices for subscriptions can easily be revised, and Microsoft may have an incentive to do so once it adds content that is as popular as Activision's, including CoD,"
MS had the audacity to say all this in court:
"Game Pass prices will not increase as a result of the Merger, and certainly will not increase to a point that offsets the substantial benefits of Activision titles coming to Game Pass on a day and date basis...This is especially so given Game Pass will continue to be constrained by B2P [buy to play]....This is exactly what Microsoft has done when it has added content to Game Pass in the past with, for example, the ZeniMax transaction resulting in additional content but no increase in Game Pass subscription prices....any price increase would be counter-productive as it would increase subscriber churn rates. This is entirely at odds with the Provisional Finding's assessment of Microsoft's rationale for the Merger."
So are they doing counter-productive things now? or was all that bullshit like everybody was calling out at the time. COD and "Day and date games" gone from everything but the highest tier at a now ridiculous $30 per month. They put prices up 2-3 times and made the highest priced tier include CoD only. how can they say the now $30 per month price of ultimate isn't due to it while selling it as the benefit?

MS:
"This is especially so given Game Pass will continue to be constrained by B2P [buy to play]."
"constrained by B2P". No wonder they tried raising game prices to $80. Nobody is going to buy outer worlds for that price but it sure would have made $30 seem like "a deal" when gamepass prices per month are being pushed to the cost of a game on sale. They hiked game prices to make it seem like buying a game is a bad deal and gamepass $30 a month a "good" one.

And I got laughed at for suggesting they needed to keep Kotick and potentially put him in charge of Xbox prior to the deal going through...

As i said on the first page, the fact they created this subscription service and day one games were the biggest draw...and now in three tiers only the most expensive one has day one releases, the middle tier only has games that released a year ago, except their biggest IP (COD) and now they even removed this from that same big IP says it all: Gamepass as an experience is a failure and it would never happen without a company such as MS to back it up.

I seriously think MS is looking at Battlefield in a week from now and will be sweating a bit...imagine if that IP starts taking sales away from the one reason they did the biggest acquisition ever for them: COD, right after they start to pull back from the console business and start killing the subscription service (Gamepass). If their biggest IP starts failing now that they are a 3rd party publisher only what's left for them? Their 1st party studios have been closing and dropping like flies, Bethesda has been a mixed bag but even the good games haven't exacly set the charts on fire (Indiana Jones) so Activision needs to do the work now...

Also a double edged sword though because exclusivity (or lack-thereof) of their games which are now widely multi-platform negates the need to actual dedicated Xbox hardware. Idk, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out 2027 and beyond.
The simplest path forward for them is just to become a third party publisher, but for some reason they are trying to promote this crazy Xbox PC-console hybrid thing which may or may not include another console and unsubsidized PCs that can also run Xbox games, it's just a mess.

Just make games.

I don't know. I honestly don't know how MS looked at stats liked that and thought gamepass would even work if they have to raise the price this much. Keeping it in the 1 to 2 games a year price (140/yr) made sense. Raising it this high doesn't make sense anymore. Especially when you add in the fact that most of the top played games are completely free. I always doubted game pass would work but I figured if they are doing it then maybe Xbox knows something I don't but I guess they didn't and just took a chance.
Yep it is too expensive for casuals and hardcore gamers hate subscriptions.

They should have left Call of Duty out of Game Pass and kept the price much more reasonable. Ultimate is now basically priced at a point where you must be into CoD plus a bunch of other genres plus the time to play them to make it worthwhile. This will be a dwindling amount of people once the cheap locked in subscribers and rewards users wind up their subs.

The worst part is these people you are talking about most likely would have spent more on the store without the sub.

Already ? didn't he recently jumped back in ? 😁

3 whole days he lasted...

I mean....I have to say I feel for the guy. Obviously he has far too much emotionally invested in all this. So mere days after returning to the Xbox fold and welcomed with open arms, Microsoft does this shit and sends the guy off the deep end......again. Dude needs new meds

I listened to him on a podcast and while he was making some sense he was rambling like crazy and you could tell he was way to emotionally invested in all this.

He will be back, wait and see

I got roped into GamePass for PC some months ago with a trial to play Avowed - decided for 11 dollars or whatever it was I liked it enough to just keep it on billing for months. I used it intermittently and checked out interesting stuff I might not have otherwise - like 9kings - but beyond Avowed, I haven't put substantial time into any Gamepass game.

Sad to see it at 17 USD or whatever - not going to keep paying that, though. Not that I want any new features, I'd probably want less, but crazy they just hike by 40% and add nothing to PC.

I mean lets be honest we know Xbox is having massive issues making games, look at how Halo Infinite first demo looked, Redfall, the last Forza Motorsports, the list keeps growing

As long as Phil has the final say these games are going to suck so Tim isn't blowing the lid off something some of us have said for a very long time

Phil needs to go and not replaced by Bond and I wont go into why she was picked for her position

Now if he has some major internal news flash why doesn't he break it?

Blow this shit up

That was a fun thread where we were all playing Avowed. Really good game. I only had GP while Rewards paid for it, but generally I enjoyed most of the games I played there. I can get why a lot of folks are pissed about this. Microsoft just pulled the rug out from under them.

😂😂😂 I'm in the uk sorry bro where Imgur have pulled out due to our retarded oppressive government.

I'll imagine he went out in a green rat ball of flame.

Ah damn....keep forgetting. So stupid they are doing that.

Obsidian and Zenimax seem to be doing ok (for the most part), but you gotta wonder how long that is going to last with the current management. Agree 100%. Xbox needs new blood. They should have kept Kotick and sent Spencer and his co-clowns packing.
