Microsoft: We are actively investing in our future first-party consoles and devices designed, engineered and built by Xbox.

The people still stupid enough to keep subbing to gamepass for $30 a month need to be kept in the dark until Microsoft is ready to cut and run. This screams "just 4 games" energy.

Yeah this is obvious to everyone except the big brains at GAF. The second largest market cap company just made a muti-year partnership with AMD and launched their cloud platform out of beta, following a historic acquisition. They are only just getting started.
Despicable Me Lol GIF

The only real thing they could at this point is make every first party title exclusive for at least a year To the console.

That's not going to happen though.

They will take the small run of rog ally selling out as a sign and keep doing that until they finally have to start selling off all these IPs they have been buying.

That's just patently not an option, whether a new console is coming or not. Xbox marketshare has declined so badly this gen that any big IP being made exclusive to it is essentially doomed to flop.

That's nice, but doesn't really tell us if the rumored 2026/2027 consoles are still on schedule. You make investments/agreements for console components sometimes 5+ years out.

They will make new gaming hardware, they have a partnership announced with AMD.
They're simply done with traditional consoles, be prepared for OEM partnerships and 1000$ gaming PCs with a Xbox logo slapped on it.
None of these device is conceived to sell tens of millions of units.

The disruptive damage Microsoft has done to this industry is something to behold, they tried to buy their way in.

Buy everything around them to create a business model they gain the most from, they want to get rid of physical, they taught their audience to not buy games, but to rent them, they created hope and cope for those hard core fanboys to get day one games cheap and the competition would be gone, they would be awesome. Just to raise their hardware prices twice, their gamepass prices up to insanity, and it all backfired on them, forced to sell games on the competitors platforms because the costs are not covered by gamepass or their hardware, and with no exclusives anymore noone is buying their hardware in their right mind, they cannot be trusted.

They lie all the time, to the FTC, to the *GAMERS* spending in their ecosystem, cancelling games left and right that where announced, raising game prices, fucking everyone over. And if they would become an 3th party publisher only, i still would not trust them. Infact with all they pulled just this generation, im suprised ANYONE trusts them and is still willing to put money on them.

The reason why so much effort is being poured into maintaining the charade (It is only 4 games) is because there's a 10 -20 Million userbase of very diehard users who all have an absurdly high likelihood of maintaining their higher tiers of GP subscriptions through this. They want to maintain that revenue stream as long as possible while they, over time, restructure Xbox into a far leaner endeavour that focuses on a handful of mega projects.

I find it curious that the guy posts the rumor and then writes why MS will deny it's true... Phil Spencer's problem is that he thinks everyone is an idiot like him. He must think everyone is an idiot and would rave that Craig the Monkey was better than Horizon Forbidden West.

This reminds me of the wii-u era everyone wanted it to fail so hard and said Nintendo lost their way and were dead and then they pulled a miracle switch out of their lazy asses. Maybe we will see the same from Microsoft, maybe not.
Right? They have a huge stable of exclusive, first party titles that they have curated over the course of decades, some of which are more popular then water, and it's just about making the right hardware.

Right?

Now imagine this console actually comes out in 2026. Based on current prices, it will cost at least $600. Who in the world would still buy it? And what for anyway? To play the games that are also releasing on other platforms? It has no reason to exist.

The thing is dead.

Edit: Did not read correctly.

This post veered from "plausible" to "tinfoil hat nonsense" pretty quickly. Phil paying people to play Xbox under his account? Come on lol

Not to mention that if they are supposedly imminently rebranding to Microsoft Gaming and already are internally going by Microsoft Gaming, why would they be releasing a handheld with ASUS in a month that's called "Xbox Ally"?

That's the point exactly

Customers decide if they want another Xbox console, not Microsoft

Retailers are REMOVING Xbox Series consoles from shelves, because THEY DON'T FUCKING SELL

Who's gonna buy the next one??

Corden and Warren (for free)?

The part about PS paying for others was posted HERE by Sneaker... and to be honest, it is VERY beliveable, given his public behavior

You think Microsoft/Satya Nadella is going to give the greenlight to paying for employees to play games on Phil's account? ...really?
Given how irresponsible and not accustomed to accountability current Xbox Management was during the last years? IMHO, YES. Just shove it as part of marketing budget.

Hitting all the stops huh
Sources say Sega is close to licensing its Dreamcast game platform to Pace Micro Technology, a set-top box manufacturer in England. Bellfield also suggested that Sega intends to license its Dreamcast operating system for playing Sega games on cell phones, personal computers and even hand-held organizers.
🤔

Why should someone buy a new Xbox hardware?
The game pass isn't any longer a no brainer.
Their games aren't any longer xbox exclusives and there isn't any need to buy a xbox for that.
Why even trying and wasting again hundreds of millions of dollars?

I believe it. Phil has always come across as a MS suit who donned a gaming t-shirt and convinced everyone he's 'one of us'. From what I recall, S SneakersSO said he created that image and used marketing budget to do so. That surprised me since I had always assumed it was more a group effort, not a master plan by Phil. Either way, it's undeniable he can't identify a good game vs. a bad game which makes all those hours gaming seem highly suspect.

Nintendo fell back on their handheld sales which were never in doubt. MS/xbox doesn't have that option. They're falling back on Windows.

Hopefully that's true. I don't want a market where Sony is the only company releasing a home console.
Yeah. Without the competition Sony might feel comfortable raising game prices to $80. Or increasing the price of the ps5 by $100. Or start charging more for their subscriptions. Just some hypothetical examples of how they might screw people over without MS or Nintendo keeping them in check.

I mean it's just four games
Not that it matters, I'm happy more people get to play more games without having to drop $500-$600 on a console and then another $120 to have the luxury of using your own internet access for online gaming.

But yeah, I don't believe them. Give me a box that can play Warcraft with mods, I don't want to update drivers myself. Do all that shit for me.

I hope they can figure out compelling hardware. A console landscape made up of Nintendo and Sony as the only real pushers of hardware is not as exciting to me as an industry where there are three manufacturers releasing compelling hardware. This Xbox situation just feels stale at this point (it has been two gens in a row now where they just can't seem to make a dent in Playstation's hold on dominating high end hardware). I'm interested in another challenger entering the hardware sphere but what must people seem to say when that idea is floated around is that it's too late in the game for that to happen.
