Putting movies in the Xbox section is savage. Do any of the astroturfers manage a Walmart?

That bottom image has Xbox games bundled up in the bottom but displaying N2 games. Anyone know where G GigaBowser works?

I noticed this a month ago at my city's Wal-Mart. There was no dedicated section selling Xbox games behind a glass case anymore, but there was still Xbox Series consoles being sold. There was maybe half a dozen Xbox games left in the $15 and $20 clearance section.

Playstation and Switch still had a dedicated section selling their games, but their sections didn't look that healthy either, they had both been downsized to about half of their previous space. They were still there at least.

The last 4-5 PCs I've built haven't had disc readers either...

That said, I doubt any console will have a disc drive next generation. They will be an add-on like with the PS5 Pro.

We already know that's not going to be the case:

Where I live, Walmart is like the only store. There is one GameStop too. No Best Buy, Target, Costco or Sam's club. I've lived here now 6 months and can't say I've ever gone into the game area.

Surprised we've seen no Switch 2 games from Microsoft yet, especially considering the glut of MS PS5 games.

A lack of dev kits maybe?

Both my local Currys and Argos have nothing Xbox on the shop floors now.

UK Retailers aren't announcing anything on their social pages, but it's definitely winding down fast here now.

Next year will be a ghost town for Xbox with all the GTA6 marketing for PS5 taking up floor space in stores.

A strategic temp PS5 price cut will likely happen around release too. Meanwhile Series S will probably be £80 more expensive than a PS5 digital by then if the current price trend is anything to go by.

At least SEGA sold off the Dreamcast for Incredible value as they were leaving the hardware market. MS will end up with old stock sitting around at this point.

Speaking of DC. It was rather sad seeing DC for £49.99 at my local Toy's R Us towards the end and people still weren't picking them up . I got myself a spare though

I'm not in the US so have no idea, but in shops like that, as a comparison, are the Nintendo/Playstation sections healthy and busy?
With digital dominating, I'm out of touch with the "bricks and mortar" gaming stuff.
I joke about Xbox but to my understanding,, the USA is by far their biggest market so this seems like a poor sign, unless it's temporary, ahead of a relaunch/next gen actually happening etc.

You only have to look at physical sales splits between Xbox and PS/Switch, Sony and Nintendo are very healthy in that regard.

This is incredibly sloppy and wasteful retail execution. Xbox is likely paying for that shelf placement and Point of Sale materials and decorations, and now their competitors are getting their shelfspace.

So basically this tells me that there is no Xbox merchandising support happening anymore, normally some sort of Xbox rep would be making periodic visits and checking on the state of the shelving, whether the planogram is followed, see if the store needs any restocking of SKUs to keep shelves filled.

When you abandon the above, it gives a very bad indication to your consumers, like the brand is getting neglected and unsupported.

The Christmas ad leak might be right, xbox is not in there.

Sega had no retail presence between July 1998 and October 1999 in the UK, which really damaged the brand's reputation.

A lot of people may have assumed they'd gone bust.

Also, companies pay Walmart for shelf space. I doubt MS would allow them to put other company games in there unless they no longer paid for the space and will be phased out.

Yeah this is fucking dire. The only reason Xbox isn't on there is because management declined to pay Walmart for placement on this leaflet.

Virtually unthinkable for any serious electronics brand.
