Walmart has started to convert its Xbox sections to Nintendo/PS

End of an era …

As far as I'm aware, Microsoft has to pay for shelf space and retail presence. From what I've seen at my local stores like Target and Walmart, there are hardly any physical Xbox games left, and console hardware is almost never in stock. Honestly, I'm more surprised they didn't pull out of retail sooner just to save cash instead of wasting it on empty retail space. This generation feels pretty much dead for them, and it's no wonder they're trying to pimp Game Pass so hard and market everything as a Xbox (since nobody can afford or find the real thing).

He remains the face of the current gens failure and will take the brunt of it and its rep damage and when the transition out of hardware is done, he will probbaly be replaced by Sarah Bond etc.
What made you think Sarah Bond would survive? She is the current Head of Xbox. If Xbox dies she is tied to it by the hip.

On the other hand Phil Spencer is head of Microsoft Gaming. He can wash his hands of Xbox hardware and continue to run the software division.

Yes, there is rumor of Sarah taking Phil's job a few months a ago, but that had assumed that there will be a new Xbox console. If that is no longer true, I fail to see it happening.

Because she was not the head of Xbox when it's whole strategy for this gen was established and put into practice the whole game pass and acquisition push gamble was Phil Spencer's baby and once it crashed and burned Sarah bond was brought in to play a fresh new face to change the face after Phil was facing serious criticism after going back on his claims. Phil is being kept in this new ceremonial role for now because sacking him now would make Xbox and Microsoft gaming look even weaker and more unstable when their survival is being questioned all over the media and customers are worried about their ecosystem and libraries.

Why would Phil survive? He fucked up royally at his job and tanked Xbox into oblivion after given insane funds and support. Sarah would survive in the form of Phil's replacement and she is already poised to do so by transitioning from the head of Xbox to Microsoft gaming as the transition reaches its end. I don't know why you think Phil's job is safe and how exactly he is suddenly free from any responsibility for the downfall of Xbox just because he was given a new ceremonial title and Sarah bond must go down with Phils Xbox ship lol just because she came into the position a year in to damage control after the damage is done and the wreck is going down.

Because the class cliff is a thing. Bringing in someone for the job of taking the blame is not a new thing.

Microsoft went really heavy on diversity, inclusion etc and you think they are going to fire their first female African American CEO who they brought in a year ago as the new shining face of their gaming division? Do you think they will want to face that fire when she goes onto tell the media why she was thrown under the bus for a failing incompetent aging *white* ceo ? Social media would go rabid over that shit.

I don't disagree they are trying to kill Xbox on purpose but I doubt Game Pass is going anywhere. Game Pass is their main business model and they won't back down from it even Xbox dies. Their logo has changed to "play anywhere" and "this is an xbox" so it is logical that their next step is to be a publisher first with their product available everywhere they can fit.

The only thing I can see surviving from Xbox are Game Pass and their controllers, and only that.
You would think Microsoft wants Gamepass to survive, but I have been hearing how the cancellation portal has been crashing since they raised the price. Not sure want to think about Microsoft's move there.
As for the controllers, they can survive everything Xbox because they simply work with Windows with no hassle. I guess that's why they constantly come out with new colors, but no Elite 3 as of yet. The Series consoles do not even have their own first party specific pro controller which I find strange, but maybe they make more money having others make them and selling the "official license".

Xbox and Gamepass go hand in hand, if one goes the other follows.

Microsoft's priority is now multiplatform game sales, Gamepass is counter to this.

Oh…
This is what the majority of GAME stores look like here in the UK. Just headsets and third party controllers in the small Xbox sections.

GAME is basically our GameStop equivalent. The only big name dedicated gaming store left here.
