PS3 emulation hit a major milestone a few days ago

All the Namco 357/359 games now emulate and are fully playable. And for those not familiar the PS3 was used in arcade boards for a bunch of games like Razing Storm, Tekken 6, Dark Escape 4D, Sailor Zombie AKB48 and many others...lots of which were either arcade exclusive or had better performance then their home arcade counterparts.

Razing Storm being the big one that kind of finalized the emulation as the IO board on that proved to be a "final boss" status item to get running in RPCS3. Sure RPCS3 in general still has room to grow even if its amazing so far but that's a pretty monumental milestone it just hit

I see some people have launched some Namco 357/359 games on real PS3. So I more interested on this way.

And I hope PCSX2 can on day also launch some Namco 246/256 games

And here I am, waiting to play my PS3 collection in my PS5 🥲

I just played Tekken 6 (BR) yesterday. Still feels surreal that I can play it on a modern Xbox console. Hopefully more people will get to appreciate it in its full glory with these improvements to emulation. PSP version just does not do it justice and unfortunately that is the only version available on PS4/5.

PS5 CPU not efficient enough to handle PS3 emulation according to DF. Maybe PS6 gen?

I was playing many PS3 games in close to 60fps on 2600k years ago, when I switched to 3600 I got a big boost:

And this was unoptimzed old ass emulator version. PS5 CPU (that is more on less on par with 3600) should run vast majority of PS3 games, most of them in 2x the framerate. Sony just doesn't care...

I used to follow RPCS3 daily because of Red Dead Redemption. Then Xenia got good and I beat the game on that, MGS4 is supposedly coming out on modern platforms SoonTM so now I'm not really that interested in PS3 emulation anymore unfortunately.
Perhaps I'll use it to play COD3 and Midnight Club LA one day but those are not really games I feel like I must play.

Happy these guys are working so hard on PS3 emulation though.

PS3 emulation is getting really good. I finished Sly Cooper Remastered on the Steam Deck using it and it ran perfectly! Granted some of the harder to emulate games don't work, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

Good luck waiting for sony to respect their long term customers.
They don't want to give us a reason to sub to PS Plus premium apparently. If their PS3 catalogue were four times as big (which should be easily doable for Sony) I'd definitely resub to premium, but as things are currently I'll stick to Extra.

How is Ps3 emulation still going on? It's been almost 2 decades. Wasn't PCsx2 able to play pretty much everything by like 2010-2015?
Hell, I'm using a PS4 emulator and its running so well.

Been really good for almost a decade.

That reminds me, one of these days I'll have to get a PS3 emulation to replay Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction, Future Quest for Booty, A Crack in Time, and Into the Nexus.

PS3 emulation has been a real blessing when my second PS3 died for good I didn't even bother replacing it. Love that it supports PS Move also

Sony just doesn't care...
I would assume that Sony has an interest to get rid of the original PS3 platform if just for their own streaming services.

Most of the relevant games saw already a port, but I guess being able to handle your own platform in its entirety might become interesting the further away we are from the PS3 years and individual games losing customer interest more and more, so port of a port of port might not be rentable at all, so offering the PS3 era, emulated, as a whole might be something a sub service just needs to have.

Don't do that, don't just post amazing gifs without mentioning the game.
It's MotorStorm: Apocalypse!! Third and last installment of the saga. And now I hate how old I am.

I prefer the pure experience of the first one, even wit its shortcomings. Also best soundtrack of the bunch. We got robbed of a PS4/PS5 graphics MS, by the way, but Dirt 5 can be a lot like it, specially in the mud circuits in the cockpit view.
