COD BO7 will have open MM at launch

Former Infinity Ward Dev claims implementing SBMM was actually the idea of Infinity Ward and not Activision

If true fuck IW.

It is absolutely true, and I could've told you this 5 years ago.

MW2019 was designed to give bad players 'safe spaces', at the expense of people who were actually good at the game. The lead dev is on record saying this. Call of Communism.

It's a weird thing. For any shooter on the fence whether to do or not do SBMM, just have sweaty ranked lobbies and randomized unranked. The pro players who care about ranking up as top players will fight each other in ranked, while the rest of people wont give a shit and just play (similar to playing exhibition sports matches as opposed to online leagues where you try and win the tournament as top dog).

To give more incentive for ranked players who really care, make it so those lobbies maybe get exclusive special unlocks (weapons, perks, cosmetics etc..) that can only be played in ranked. That will keep them happy while casual gamers just wanting to play wont even notice or care.

I feel like most of the complaints about SBMM come from those who just wanna "pwn the noobz" without having to actually play against someone their own size.

I used to think that, but if you grind in SBMM, it's just sweaty matches, constantly. I'm a good player, maybe top 40%, and it's just a slog.

Even multiplayer needs pacing.

If someone just wants to relax, then why play a competitive multiplayer game in the first place, just go pop dumbass bots in the campaign.
What's the point of sinking a lot of time into a game trying to play great and learn the maps etc... if it comes out in a wash 50/50 with SBMM?

It's like playing a RPG with monster scaling. A ghoul can be killed with a 10 swipes with a dagger at level 1. Your guy is now level 40 with a fire sword, sword mastery skill, and you know special attack moves . Why should it take 10 hits again?

Yep, anyone who says this is being protected by the system. Playing in an above average lobby is like a completely different game. Every single match you have to give 100% or you'll get destroyed. You have to use the meta guns too, running around with silly class setups is just not a thing with EOMM.

That's without getting into the connection issues. If you are a top 10% player almost every match will be 60-120 ping with packet loss. If you are a good player, you have a worse connection in your games.

The thing about SBMM lobbies vs randomized lobbies is most of the time it'll be pretty evened out anyway. Unless the lobbies were set up so one team is stacked with good players by pure luck by the servers and the other team has tons of bad players, chances are pretty good each team will have both good and bad players. You can see this all the time in older COD games. Each team will probably have some good players who go 17-7 carry the laggards who go 6-16. It's not that often one team steamrolls the other winning the match 75-30.

But I think what SBMM supporters want is they'd rather face an opposing team of similar skilled gamers which are predictable vs. a team who has a mix of good and bad players probably because they keep getting picked off by the good gamers.

Lobby balancing yeah. I remember people used to complain about how aggressive it was in Black Ops 3, we didn't know how good we had it...

Every Cod has lobby balancing to some degree, although from Cod 4 up to MW3 it was based purely on scores from the previous match (assuming the players remain in the lobby). BO2 was the first game to experiment with SBMM.

I'd rather have random lobbies or at worst, balanced teams which can be a mix of good and bad players.

Having a match where everyone is a 5/10 skill isnt as fun or unpredictable as a game with teams mixed up with good and bad players in the same persistent lobby where you get to know the other gamer by user name how good he is and what style he plays after a few matches. For gamers who dont like getting beat by better or more experienced gamers, I get it. It's also no fun to be someone in top 3 COD matches most of the time being one of the guys who has to carry the team with a minimum +10 k/d (ie. 16-6 or 19-8) to ensure the team even has a chance of winning. But you live through it because it's still fun to play with randoms even if you get dinged losses due to a couple guys who go 5-14.

And guess what? Sometimes the other team gets randomized with a stack of good gamers against you. Once that happens you know youre done, unless by luck youre playing with good buddies that night partied up too. Who cares. Next match, the game will randomize the players again so it'll be fresh.

And how is anyone going to add gamers to their friends list after 1 match in SBMM as everyone gets whisked away to another lobby? Only reason I added people from playing old COD games was because we played probably an hour straight in the same lobby and added each other.
