Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 - Reviews Thread

What about actual roleplaying like having skill checks on dialog so you have a branching story?

Not including every feature is one thing. Failing to represent the genre of the game is another. Especially when the original development on the game had the work done to support it.

How many features do you want to include? Trying to modernise the first bloodlines into a 2025 game with all those things doesn't work without the budget of a proper AAA game.

Probably why the first studio ended up failing.

It seemed obvious when they changed direction completely. The og version might have seem pretty poor gameplay wise but it at least seem to be bloodlines. Maybe if they gave them the time spend on chinese studio version the game would have come together. Who knows.

Even if the game wasn't crap it wouldn't be bloodlines and that was obvious from the moment they started releasing information about this new version. Fuck them for mishandling the sequel to one of my favorite games of all time.

Not what I wanted, but not surprised by this outcome considering all the hell it went through and the quality of some of the playthroughs we saw recently. Maybe I'll still grab it on the super cheap. But yeah, I'm by no means in any rush.

not that I give a shit about critic reviews, but how the fuck do you make a game worse than the first? I mean it wasnt a marvel, but it grew into a classic over the years and all they had to do was improve on all aspects of the first and it seems this does the opposite... Anyway still getting it eventually.

It looks like this game has barely any RPG mechanics at all.
By that token, neither does the first Bloodlines.
This isn't FF16 we're talking about. We have 6 different clans, varying dialogue options dependent and independent of clan, skill trees, etc.

Most RPGs are not endlessly branching experiences. There is a line, and maybe BL2 falls short, but pretending like the first title was some kind of Freeform TTRPG made into a game is nostalgic at best.

Fuck i really wanted game to be good or at least good enough for genre connoisseur (7/10 or so), im still gonna play it just looks like its not worth full price so not at launch =/

It looks pretty much like a 7/10 to me. I think it just get extra hammered cause of the "name". Reviving a 20 year old cult classic and making it another cult classic doesnt seem to be as easy. I only know of Larian who managed this in the last few years.

2025 has been a legendary year, can't have it all lol. I don't care about reviews but I was only ever mildly interested anyway, will have to wait for Blood Of The Dawnwalker for some true vampire goodness (I hope).

Edit: and I wouldn't mind a sequel to Vampyr 👌

So no loot, no character progression after couple hours, no stats, and side quests suck.

And you are running between dialogues and quests are middling at most. 😢

It's missing what? Stats and skill checks? Bloodlines 1 wasn't a deep RPG either.
I read somewhere it misses stats, skill checks, inventory, quest log and using weapons (you can use some through telekinesis but you can't wield them for some bizarre reason). I saw some reviews saying choice and consequence isn't really that impactful either. Clans seems to be just unique skill trees for combat and minor fluff in the dialogue

Choice and consequence is more or less non existent in bloodlines 1 as well. It was always style over substance

Making a game that doesn't play, look and feel like a game from 2004?

Reading the PC Gamer review, it does not sound bad, but what the fuck is that about the sidequests being fetch quest BS?
Did Chinese Room ever play the original? Its sidequests were brilliant! And that game was made by a team of 20 people on near non-existen budget in like 3 years on completely new unproven engine that was being built by another company for a shooter!

Yeah. Part of the charm of an RPG is to have some cool side quests. Bethesda gets that.

I dont get it. You had the blue print from the first game. The only things fans wanted was more of that, new stories, better graphics and maybe some better gameplay.

Instead you make this? What the fuck is wrong with you Skidmore.

2004 were different times, different people, different mindsets. Listened to a review of the first game by "Mortismal gaming" today and he said because of aforementioned...there will be never a game again like VtMB. Its pretty sad. I hope he is not right.
