Emiru assaulted at TwitchCon

Asmon giving a lot of reasons why Twitch is cooked

I've only ever watched Asmongold's Youtube videos, but the guy seems genuine and makes rational points. I'd hate to learn he's a terrible person, but I doubt it.

He mentions Twitch's viewership is down 30% in the year. I wonder if that's a sign of a decline in interest in streaming overall, or if those Twitch viewers are going to other streaming platforms.

If streaming is losing appeal overall, I wonder where those people are going for their entertainment. 🤔

I really don't understand the appeal of Twitch stream culture….why people so obsessed with them?
Parasocial culture. Symbiotic relationship between the Streamers and their followings. It's akin to a Vampire and their legion of thralls. Just Online Celebrities when you break it down.

Twitch management seems to house a lot of Narcissists that will do anything to absolve all blame from themselves. This CEO is a great example. Tone deaf deflection.

Of course this woman didn't deserve this but when you cater to the crazies then what the fuck should you expect.
What she should really be doing is diverting some of her money to create a qualified security team that knows what they're doing when she is attending events.
Also make sure your money making persona looks nothing like you in person so you can live a normal life outside of other one.
Im beginning to think these people are absolute amateurs to understanding how crazy the world really is. Take some control in your life and also have somebody experienced in going over any contractual agreements that you are about to sign.

I read she had a competent security staff last year that prevented something like this and twitch banned them for some reason.

Amazon has been given too many chances to right the ship with Twitch.

They need oversight. Someone willing to implement real changes and clean house.

The big streamers should recognize their value in the ecosystem and abstain from the platform until changes are made.

Kick has been rising in popularity so is not streaming losing appeal, its Twitch losing touch, by adding a shitload of ads, questionable moderation decisions, and other stuff. Asmon in that video says Twitch uses 8 minutes of ads per hour. Thats alot of time just for ads. Lets say you watching a 1 hour stream and every 15 minutes theres an ad, the max im willing to tolerate is like a 15-30 second ad, so a max of 2 minutes of ads per hour. 8 minutes is crazy. Reason why Asmon disabled ads for his channel.

I dont watch his live streams on twitch, but during lunch time i usually watch one of his youtube videos as he uploads alot so thers usually a topic i find interesting watching.

Extremely hot women directly interact with their communities that sometimes number in hundreds of thousands ----> Since the number is significant some of them within these communities are mentally ill nutjobs who should live in mental asylums, the problem is that modern liberal "science" has decided to let them loose on society because empathy is more important than a well functioning society ----> No matter what these women do or say these schizos will make entire scenarios in their minds and often convince themselves that the streamer is their gf while wasting all their money on them ----> When they push too far, often in chat, they get banned or ostracized by the rest of the community -----> They get angry, feel betrayed and become violent or aggressive to the point that some of them have murdered streamers

People like you are quick to blame streamers but the main problem once again is virtue signalling professional morons that have turned science into a joke. Everyone has become the victim of the consensus that was pushed by mental health professionals to close down mental asylums, society is the main victim but also the families of the mentally ill and the mentally ill themselves

I thought the same thing, but obsessively attached fans have been around for a long time. However, I think by adding the daily streams, and the parasocial aspect Evilore mentioned; tied with dumping money into superchats/memberships, etc. Have led to a whole new level of entitlement. I agree with Asmonds take that Twitch is on a steep decline and probably that will be the last TwitchCon

I tend to not get my world views from a guy living in his moms attic, in a house with more bugs and filth than a hoarder, who's diet is soda and fast food daily, that barely bathes, and has half his mouth of teeth left due to poor hygiene.

All of which is remedied immediately due to his massive wealth yet refuses to do so.

Making a few good points here and there doesn't really negate someone this far gone and terminally online is a massive grifter with deep seeded issues.

Asmon before he went off the very deep end used to say he himself isn't a good person. He's mentioned how he would con people, and more.

at this point you are staking me.

There are a shit ton of lonely, friendless people (often gamers) out there who substitute their favorite streamers for friends and even romantic partners. And when those streamers play video games and acknowledge them on stream after donations, it just further reinforces the delusion.

For me the entire idea watching someone else play games so numbly boring and wast of time.....the ONLY time I ever like watching someone else play games is fighting game tournaments and thats it.

The view drop is mostly because Twitch got a new firewall or something that can kill bots, so even channels that didn't have those bots assigned by the owner of the channel, got cut too. It's not a new thing, and third party people even came up saying that inserted the bots to help those they like. Maybe it's bad for new channels to go up, but it is what it is

Asmon says since forever that didn't care for that, doesn't accept personal donations, and he just do what he likes to do and thinks it's the right call for a personal streaming - he plays, sees other internet stucf he talks to his audience. He also trashes Twitch a lot because there's too much shit they put under the rug

Someday the bill will come

The Incident

  • The incident happened about 30 minutes into her scheduled meet and greet [04:08].
  • An individual bypassed the line and was able to walk through a side area without being checked [04:34], which security footage later confirmed was due to a gap in consistent security coverage [13:15].
  • The man approached her, grabbed her, and then grabbed her face, attempting to kiss her [05:24].
  • Emiru's personal security guard and her manager intervened immediately, pushing the man away and moving her [05:45]-[06:11]. The assailant was then allowed to walk away and leave the convention [05:50].

Response from Twitch

  • Emiru noted that Twitch's security was not nearby and did not intervene until after her personal security and manager had handled the situation [05:41].
  • No Twitch staff came up to her immediately to check on her [06:16].
  • Her manager had to contact the police independently [09:35] and called a lawyer on her own [12:32]. It took Twitch two hours to approach her manager to talk about the incident [12:18].
  • Emiru believes Twitch's official statement was only released and the issue was taken seriously because the clip of the incident went viral on Twitter [02:15].
  • Twitch's initial response to her manager was to ban the individual from the platform for 30 days [11:09], which was only changed to an indefinite ban from all Twitch online and in-person events after her manager argued for a more serious consequence [11:34].
  • Twitch's security team used a fan's photo of the guy, not their own, to try and find him [12:36].

Consequences and Moving Forward

  • Emiru highlights her privilege in being able to afford over $10,000 in personal security to attend the event [14:40], questioning what smaller creators without those resources are supposed to do [15:11].
  • Following the incident, Amazon flew in their global head of something to redesign the whole security process for the rest of the convention [13:58].
  • She is pressing charges against the individual involved [40:36].
  • Despite the trauma, she planned to go through with her scheduled show with Baby No Money and Will Neff due to the hard work of the production staff and cosplayers [27:52].
  • Emiru concludes by stating she is "done" with TwitchCon [26:51] and will not be attending future events. She encourages other creators to stand up for themselves and others when they experience similar issues [33:54].

TLDR

Twitch streamer Emiru gives an emotional summary about a man sexually assaulting/groping her during her TwitchCon meet and greet.

She slams Twitch for its negligent security that allowed the man to easily approach her, and for its poor, delayed, and initially inadequate official response (an initial 30-day ban, only changed after her manager pressed the issue). She stresses that her personal security and manager were the ones who intervened, and she is speaking out because she fears for smaller creators who cannot afford their own protection. She is pressing charges against the assailant and is done with TwitchCon.

the weird thing is I find video game fighting tournaments boring as shit but I will watch let's players and streamers stream video games each and every day if they're entertaining enough.

To me highly skill fighting tournaments are entertaining especially when fighting game has good animation.

But I see no point watching let's plays, if I have enough free time to watch someone else play games then I rather play the game myself…..it such a waste of time.

Bit different when Online exposure was low and you had to actually go to tournies and skillful play was rare. Now that it's pretty much everywhere it's no longer special.

Not gonna see this kind of stuff ever again

that's it, lots of people don't have the time to play games, so they do that while eating or working

To me whats fun about watching someone else play games? Whats fun about listening to some talking in camera by themselves while playing games? If I dont have time play games then I mostly try catch up with my TV shows.

Probably because TV shows sucks and they find watching someone reacting or skills at games a lot more interesting.

Allot of engagement and because that some felt they are very close to the streamers. Too some that feeling is very deep and they thought the streamers can be there best friend or even a girl friend or wife some day.

The vast majority of TV shows are now slop with unlikable characters so people turned to streaming slop that at least has likeable streamers
Let's say I was like you and hated most TV shows then I rather just play games than watch someone else play games for me.

I really should watch Frieren. I keep playing other games though.
Fuck yeah you should, that show was awesome….also add City the Animation and Apocalypse Hotel on must watch list.

I play games while listening to streamers in the backround, most people do something similar. There's a meme in the streaming community about them watching streamers on the sixth monitor exactly because most people don't actually watch them, they do other shit like chores, gaming, even work and have them on the backround

Why would I ever want to do that? I want focus on games story and characters, heck I was playing game more gameplay focus games I want hear game's sound and music.

Because, just like TV shows, most story games have also turned into slop with unlikable characters so 95% of the time I play games that are just gameplay and I don't mind missing out on some sound effects

Only time I'd consider listening to something else is if I'm mindlessly grinding in a MMO or something...and most games I play have surrealism or great sound design that if you play something over it you kinda ruin that aspect.

Can you imagine listening to podcasts while playing any Survival Horror that's based around sound design and atmosphere? Like bro.

Or responding to audio cues to react to attacks like in Sekiro or most Tecmo Koei games.

That's mostly your issue, I personally enjoining the games I'm playing….I recently finished Trails of the Sky 1st Chapter and loved every minute of it.

Exactly! If a game is so uninteresting that I need to listen to something else while playing then that game is not worth my time.

You do you, I'm explaining why many people are getting sick and tired of traditional entertainment and turning to streaming and indie games that are mostly just gameplay

If a game is boring enough to be considered slop and you need to *listen* to a streamer to even continue playing.......why don't you just stop playing lol. Or at least play something that's deserving of your undivided attention, so you can enjoy/appreciate it more. Streamers will still be there after, whether it's via clip channels or VODs.

I really should watch Frieren. I keep playing other games though.

I held off for a while, but after hearing so much praise - I jumped in. Well worth it, amazing show. So many likeable characters, great story, pacing, environments, etc. Now I'm just waiting for the next season to hurry up and be released lol.

Kick is even worse and more degenerate than Twitch.

Yeah, didn't someone die on Kick in the last few months?

Also, a 30 day ban is a fucking joke.

They won't even ban his IP, just his account, so he probably already has a new account and in Emiru's chat going "Oh wow, it sucks what happened to you!"

I thought about this in a few years ago after there was a YouTube personality that was singing that went to some concert to perform that was murdered. One of the biggest problems with social media as you have people allowing people to have an almost ridiculous amount of access to them in regards to videotaping where they stay, live, their areas and all of this information without actually having the financial luxury of having the security to protect themselves against these weirdos in the first place.

So the biggest celebrities that make millions of dollars are allowed to videotape all of their lives because clearly they also have the security to support that type of access

But if you're just a random person on YouTube or twitch you're not making that type of money and you're providing this ridiculous amount of access to yourself to people online, There is going to be weirdos that will take advantage of this information.

I do agree that Twitch needs to have higher security because they need to understand millions of people are watching those streams, Despite the majority of those streamers not being millionaires that can afford some big amount of security, This is a major L for the company because it shows they're not willing to keep their brand and people who represent them safe despite knowing the large amount of individuals that know them.

Its even more weird cause they from what I understand stopped them from having their own personal security at the event.

(I don't even understand how having more Security would be a negative thing)

He's one of the earliest streamers to get big and he did so playing WoW. Like ridiculously unhealthy amounts of WoW. He's not a terrible person, just sort of an unkept basement dweller type.
