We can now confirm that the Resident Evil 0 remake is indeed a reality, and we were able to gather some details about the project, including additions to the plot, casting, and information regarding its development.

Plot and Casting Details for Resident Evil 0: Remake

Similar to what has been reported by reputable insiders, we have been told that the Resident Evil 0: Remake is a project that has been in development for a few years now. The title has been worked on under the codename "Chamber", which works as a clever pun referencing the last name of protagonist Rebecca Chambers, and that voice and performance capture work with new actors for the leads would have begun at some point in 2024.

One of the actors joining this new cast is Jon McLaren, known for playing Star-Lord in the 2021 game adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy and for his roles in Far Cry 5. We know this thanks to a mention on the actor's resume, where "Project Chamber" is listed as one of his projects and is noted as a lead role.

Additionally, this project is overseen by Beyond Capture Studios, a motion capture company that has previously collaborated with Capcom on games such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Taking into account that the actor is a lead on the project, it's probable that Jon McLaren is the actor responsible for playing Billy Coen, the co-protagonist of the original game, alongside Rebecca Chambers.

With these casting details, we can likely rule out any return of the original game's voice actors, even though recasting is a common practice with the Resident Evil remakes.

Now, in terms of plot, the remake is expected to expand upon the source material, although the core story will remain the same, another common characteristic of RE remakes. Before continuing, we must warn you of minor plot spoilers. The following example details new additions for the remake, which is why we're refraining from sharing other major story beats that would give away too much.

One of these new storylines would involve the initial segment of the game set on the train, specifically concerning the train conductor. In the original game, this character is never seen and is only referenced via his office on the train, but in the remake, he will take on a slightly larger role.

We can detail that one of the scenes involving this character has him asking Rebecca for help to stop the train's acceleration, only to end up betraying her by locking her in with a bunch of zombies so he can escape. Following this, we wouldn't see him again until reaching a later zone in the game, where Rebecca would find him interacting with another mysterious, unnamed character who appears to have knowledge of the general situation and clearly plays an important part in the plot.

Those familiar with the lore may already have an idea of who this mysterious individual could be, but they will also be aware that none of these plot elements were present in the original game. Therefore, we should expect a more cinematic structure for the storyline.

Interestingly, despite having all these details, everything indicates that we still have some time until we see this remake, as recent statements from insider DuskGolem suggest that we would first see the Code Veronica remake launch, which is currently rumored to be targeting Q1 2027, while the Resident Evil 0 remake aims for a 2028 release.

0 has always been lowkey one of my favorite ones and always felt like it never got the proper respect, despite it's flaws.

Playing through a redo of it sounds like a dream come true, I can't wait to see how Capcom will tackle it (hopefully not another 3 of course)

I kinda... don't want it. I like 0, and I like the RE remakes, but it just feels unnecessary. Is it really so bad for some of these games to only exist in their original incarnations? Seemingly everybody would've wanted a CV remake over this, anyway.

I wish it was sooner with a late 2026 release and a early 2027 for both of these remakes.

RE CV is the remake I'm looking forward to the most. I'm also very hyped for RE0 even as someone that really disliked the original. But the remake will definitely improve on everything and make it way more fun to play with more lore etc.

While I appreciate the linking and whatnot, I was hoping the entire article wasn't copy and pasted. :{

Believe it or not, these things (uncovering leaks, etc) cost time and money, and doing this exact thing means we get zero out of it from GAF. I interact here from time to time.

Thanks for crediting us at least.

I never played 0, maybe this is high time I check it out on Steam. I just finished up a replay of REmake and one of the funniest parts was how Chris was so retarded he couldn't do simple math to synthesize V-JOLT to kill Plant 42, so had to leave it up to the nubile Chambers who was fresh out of high school. I used to think it was the steroids which fried his brain but it was clearly a long-standing problem.

After RE3 dropped the ball and RE4 had no soul, I'm hesitant on Capcom's remakes.

The RE3 is a painful one, loved the original but you could always feel the slightly rushed development of it but it just sticks the landing, the remake was a chance to make it the end to the original trilogy it should have been but somehow they decided to rush it again 😲

Id just wait on the remake. Zero is no fun, the character switching sucks.

Zero was a cashgrab. It was always a game that Capcom blatantly completed only because they had a deal with Nintendo and didn't want to throw away completely the material they had planned for the original N64 version. It's disjointed as hell, the CG cutscenes are embarrassing in comparison to REmake, and the inventory system was simply a bad idea. Nothing in Zero is memorable. I forced myself to play through it twice, and I can barely remember five moments from it.
A remake has ample room to make a better game, but it's still completely unnecessary.

Anything but Code Veronica apparently.
Good. Code Veronica was the epitome of everything bad with classic RE, and virtually nothing of what was good.
Again, a remake could make it a better game, but the story was always unsalvageable trash with a lot of anime tropes creeping into RE through the cracks.

0 and CV can be nice remakes

Don't make 1 thou. We already have the perfect remake, and it's the first game. It's not only the perfect Resident Evil remake, it's THE perfect remake

The only tropes were action and horror ones. Replaying events of Code Veronica was the best part of Darkside Chronicles. The original had some pacing issues and some poorly implemented mechanics like sniper rifle aiming but story was a great continuation of first two Resident Evils. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was the redheaded stepchild that marketing falsely graced with mainline designation.

Kinda late to the party. After 2,3,4 remakes, I just want a new one similar to those besides the 6-7-8 first person ones.
They probably want to keep switching the styles to not tire players. But I agree it's a shame. I would love either a new RE like 2 (more horror) or like 4 (more action). For the time being I do not see that happening though.

Report: Resident Evil 0 Remake Confirmed to be in Development, New Casting and Plot Details Unearthed

Fake news, Capcom is successful with remakes so they will obviously will continue remaking games, but there isn't any confirmation about Resident Evil 0 Remake.

A voice actor that never has worked in Resident Evil getting a job in a project codenamed Chamber doesn't confirm anything, even if working with a motion capture company who worked in a few Capcom games and many other companies.
