Will Sony acquire the rights to Call of Duty when Xbox is shutdown by Microsoft? or will they run Acti-blizz as a separate entity?

The writing is so clearly on the wall for Xbox, whether that's just hardware or whether that's Microsoft in terms of gaming, but 30% EBITDA is impossible for Microsoft, not even Nintendo hit that.

Will this mean Xbox and Microsoft game studios are shuttered or will they continue to run Acti-Blizz Silo'd? if they sell it off I could see Sony acquiring call of duty's IP and possibly Infinity Ward and Treyarch.

me trying to figure out how to respond to this question

Sony don't have that kind of money unless MS manages to completely tank the value of their brands and sells for pennies on the dollar. I think if anything it would all end up getting bought up by the Saudis or the Chinese like what happened to EA recently (which to be clear, I think its extremely highly unlikely at this point).

Sony doesn't need that. They are making 30%, even with MS owning ATVI, without lifting a finger. This is a first time in history where both CoD and BF are PS5-aligned this holiday season lol.

You're MrAlwaysRight, so why the fuck are you asking anyone else?

You still have another day until the weekend, bud.

I dont think Sony needs it. Right now, they appear all on on BF too.
At worst Microsoft will go full 3rd and manage it how they decide - no need to sell off.

It IS a separate entity, already. Microsoft Gaming doesn't depend on the existence of the Xbox hardware business to keep operations going.

I mean....Sony doesn't need to buy Call Of Duty, its a waste of money. They move the most units on Sony's platform, which means in the event MS stops doing hardware, its pointless for Sony to "buy" the Call Of Duty IP, the majority of its install base is already with Sony and Sony may not see the need to spend such money to buy the IP to get the software sales, they have their own MP division with Bungie

Xbox Hardware =/= Xbox Software.

One can exist without the other, and likely will going into the future. Look at Sega. MS will just turn Xbox into a development house that also happens to have a cloud gaming platform that allows you to play games. I think the writing is on the wall for the hardware, but MS game studios existed well before Xbox even became a thing, and will exist after it also.

what...? why?

COD is kind of already connected to Playstation anyway. Why have all the truble and spend all that money? Specially when this year will be...interesting for that IP and there's a chance they won't be alone as the top FPS anymore.

Worst case scenario Xbox gets shuttered, but MSFT will still hold onto CoD until it stops printing money aka never.

There is no scenario where MSFT gets rid of CoD.

Xbox is not going away. Where does a question like this come from? Even if they leave consoles, they will just become a much larger version of Sega, basically a third-party publisher.

Xbox as console its on its way out, but xbox as a 3rd party publisher dont have nothing to worry about unless they fuck up all they studios. They have alot of big IPs they just need to not fuck it up with dumb management decisions.

And even if that happened, Sony would have no reasons to buy an expensive IP like COD. The only reason they bought Bungie was because they panicked after the Bugthesda aquisition, and that was in my opinion the worst aquisition Sony ever made. Also with less competition in the console space, thers less reason to aquire studios for exclusivity purposes.

Absolutely, and that's why I made the distinction about whether it's just HW/Xbox or whether Microsoft will get out of gaming entirely, a 30% margin is way too high for video games, that to me seem's like Microsoft's shareholders want out of gaming full stop, not just Xbox, hence the question.

If Microsoft's XBOX really closes shop even as a publisher, Actiblizz has to be sold to someone right.
If not Sony then probably to the next highest bidder, The Saudis or EA Games lol
