Paramount & Activision Team For ‘Call Of Duty’ Movie

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Here is a feature project happening at the new Paramount under Skydance, which is close to Chairman & CEO David Ellison's heart: a live-action feature take of the best-selling Activision vision game, Call of Duty.

Paramount has made it official that they've signed a film deal with Activision to bring the videogame to the big screen. Ellison has played the game for some time. Not to mention, it's a project right in the wheelhouse for the Top Gun: Maverick studio. Activision will be a creative partner on the film.

Activision, under its Activision Blizzard Studios, back in February 2018, tried to develop a big screen take of Call of Duty with Sicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima attached. It didn't get off the ground.
Call of Duty, one of the most successful videogame franchises of all-time, has been the No. 1 best-selling video game series in the U.S. for 16 consecutive years with over half billion copies sold around the globe, and reaching hundreds of millions of players worldwide
Said Ellison, "As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty this is truly a dream come true. From the first Allied campaigns in the original Call of Duty, through Modern Warfare and Black Ops, I've spent countless hours playing this franchise that I absolutely love. Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we don't take lightly. We're approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve. I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand – thrilling longtime fans of Call of Duty while captivating a whole new generation."
Said Rob Kostich, President of Activision: "Throughout its history, Call of Duty has captured our imagination with incredible action and intense stories that have brought millions of people together from around the world, and that focus on making incredible Call of Duty games remains unwavering. With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner who we will work with to take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment. The film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started. Our shared goal is quite simple — to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise."

It needs to be true to the franchise. I'm not watching unless Peter Griffin summons in a unicorn to fart Beavis to death while a rasta chameleon fires a weed gun at Nicki Minaj.

Krasinski, you're in

Edit: also we're not ready for the ending in DLC and the new glasses technology in the cinema that allows you to buy a skin to adorn the hero with it

"You're not gonna believe this Soap."

"What is it Ghost?"

"It looks like they are using the battle pass."

The guy who directed Extraction and Extraction 2, Sam Hargrave could be a good fit for this. Experience with balls-to-the-wall set pieces with inventive camerawork.

Call of Duty already has the most generic story in the universe when it comes to American soldier-movie clichés. I have no idea how they're going to create something that actually resembles a "COD identity."

I give it good chances to be better than the actual games which isn't saying much. Bring on Jason Statham and Nicki Minaj for the main roles. Jack Black makes a guest appearance. Boom, hit at the office

I was just about to bring up Terminal List. The first season definitely had a CoD-like feeling in how it shot tense action scenes.

COD built its empire by pushing the envelope constantly, way past points where other studios and publishers had the stomach for. They'll have to go absolutely apeshit hardcore with a movie.

Huge shame they didn't go forward with that guy who directed Sicario 2, that would have been sweet.

If they do this right, it could be the next Fast & Furious style franchise, limitless potential to do anything and go anywhere.

They can do a serious tone, Black Hawk Down style - Or make a military Horror style Zombie movie. They can even go to space with this franchise. Endless milking potential.

Surprised they havent done this already.

Im honestly surprised its taken this long for a CoD movie to come out. No reason they couldn't make a good popcorn action flick out of it though.
They won't, but they could.

COD campaigns are basically big blockbuster movies anyway so this could turn out to be a banger of an action film.
Honestly, it has the potential to be the next Fast and Furious type of franchise, the type of shit that people just go to to turn off their brains for an hour and a half or two. I don't think anybody would be expecting high cinema here.

If they play their cards right they could have a couple of concurrent franchises going simultaneously (BlOps, Modern Warfare, Future)

Not sure how this just doesn't turn into some basic action movie slop. Then again they somehow made me care about a GT movie which I didn't think could happen so who knows.
