ARC Raiders is launching on October 30th. Some have called it gamings next Mario 64 moment, others have said it's DOA. Claim your destiny fellow NeoGAFians and choose (!)...your (!)... Metascooore!

The music is great 👍

My flatmate played it and liked it, I find MP games hard to get into, probably because long term planning and execution isnt my strong suit and I get bored if I cant win with reflexes alone quickly.

So no online competitive MP, no soulslikes and no roguelikes (among other things) for Kuranghi I'm afraid.

My personal life is mirrored in this, its hard for me to start new jobs or finish tasks when there's friction and I dont have someone to guide me.

I spent quite a bit of time with it and after the initial good impression of the art design and solid mechanics wore off, it felt pretty barren and basic real fast. Not sure what others will make of it. Helldivers 2 had this instant hook to PvE for me with the fun "enter cheat codes" mechanic and the unbridled chaos. Even with all its problems, I couldn't stop playing that all weekend. Arc was like...yea, it's cool but eh.

I think a big part was how static the world feels. It's a good game but didn't grab me. I'd give it a 7/10 tops based on the server slam. PvP was okay but I'm too used to Hunt's crazy levels of satisfaction when getting a kill.

Am I missing something? Looks like a simple 78-84 metascore game?

The thing is, we'll have to add 8 to 12 points to the final Metascore to adjust for the anti GAAS/PvP bias among the critics.

Game could legitimately be the first 104 Metascore game ever released. I do not say that with an ounce of sarcasm.
This makes me wonder if a f2p live service game could ever legitmately get GOTY nomination at TGA. I know a few were, but they were all paid at the time.

78 +/-1. It's not a groundbreaking game, it's just a technically good game on a semi-niche/not so fun genre, with a boring setting.
I feel the same way, extremely over hyped by YouTubers and echo chambers.

I thought the beta was incredibly boring. And I played a lot of PUBG. This game doesn't feel like an evolution of the online shooters we've seen. This game would've had more potential and success as a coop / PvE type game, something like The Division.

74 metacritic.

games like this get 1 of 2 types of scores.

type 1: reviewer doesn't understand the genre and the depth of the game, and gives it a mediocre score due to it

type 2: reviewer doesn't understand the genre and the depth of the game, and gives the game a good score, our of the fear he missed and/or doesn't understand stuff and thinks he has to compensate for that.

either way, the reviews are useless.
this is the same that happens with fighting game reviews.

I want to chose 84-85 but that's not an option so I went 85-86 instead. I like the game I think it's good but I think journos will give it a more solid B or B- score than an A-, A or A+. Personally I give the game a 4/5 for the brief time I've played it.

Did you play Metroid Prime 2 multiplayer?

I'm going to generalise here but I don't think the modern gaming journalist is the target audience and I really don't think they'll 'get' it. Voted 83-84 but having played both recent tests will be higher for me.

Normally big companies like IGN and Gamespot have a "fighting game guy" who reviews fighting games, a JRPG guy for JRPGs etc. that way there's a degree of skill and knowledge when reviewing a new game. Also the person reviewing the game has to like the genre otherwise they'll default to giving it a shit review.

The clothing art style is some weird big city California shit, it looks odd and uncool. The world feels abandoned (which it kinda is). The drones arent a compelling antagonist at all, they're just boring looking filler (look at the machines in the 1st matrix movie or Hal 9000 in 2001, that's how you make a compelling AI villain, not basic bitch drones).

And the standard weapons feel like shit to use, specially the one that reloads like 10% of the reload capacity in 1 reload so you have to spam reload to fill up your magazine. You don't run into enemy players that often and sometimes you just loot what you can, extract with your bags full with literally no PVP engagements in between. Other than that the gameplay was fun and the external environments looked very pretty with RT Global Illumination on.

That's escape from duckov. But I think this game would be boring AF just fighting those lame ass drones.

First mainstream PvP game with long form progression.

This is a legitimately big moment for games.
You're unironically expecting a 92 Metacritic? When even Helldivers 2 topped out at 82? Keeping in mind the bias critics have for these kinda games.
