Halo live-service multiplayer game "releasing in 2026" - Rebs Gaming

This has been mentioned in a thread regarding the Halo Campaign Evolved leak, but I believe it needs its own dedicated thread to discuss this multiplayer game and the multiplayer game only.

This comes from the same person who accurately leaked the Halo remake for PS5.

This latest update comes from prolific Halo reporter Rebs Gaming. In an October video, the insider revealed that sources had recently told him that Microsoft is working on a live service Halo multiplayer title. Where this rumor gets really interesting, though, is that this same source is the one that leaked the Halo CE Remake, which has now been verified by multiple major outlets.

Even more interesting is that Rebs Gaming reports that the live service Halo multiplayer title has been compared to Fortnite. "A live service, long-term updating multiplayer game is in the works. Its live-service component is like Fortnite." Although Rebs did caution that the game might not necessarily be an actual Battle Royale. "There was no mention of it being a Battle Royale or other specifics."

So the leaker may have just been using Fortnite as an example of the Halo multiplayer project having persistent content updates. Still, a major Halo game that only focuses on multiplayer and is on all platforms with constant updates sounds incredibly enticing. In fact, it makes me wonder why Microsoft hasn't done something like this years ago, especially when Battle Royales and live service games were at their peak popularity.

The new leak also revealed that the Halo multiplayer project might have a release date set for 2026. Rebs Gaming clarified that the new live service title could actually launch the same year as the Halo CE Remake.

"A credible source says there are two new Halo games that are releasing in 2026. These games could be the Combat Evolved Remake and the multiplayer project."

"We've already had one failed Halo live service, yes, but what about second failed Halo live service?"

343i completely botched Infinite. The gameplay was rock solid, but literally everything else - UI, progression, career, maps, netcode - was absolutely fucked. These clowns had six years, delivered the smallest campaign in franchise history, and launched their multiplayer live service with the smallest multiplayer content offering of any game in the series. They ignored literally all feedback - literally all of it - from closed and open betas, and ignored all feedback from their technical test weekends. They will absolutely drop the ball again.

inspired by Fortnite. It's funny because i was just saying the other day how big corps take genre leading games and their big consultant tells them to chase trends.

You'll be surprised how people react when they've got a gun to their heads, I think it'll be there best work along with the remake but whether it will be enough to save them is anyone's guess.

Hopefully they look at the success of Battlefield 6 and realize that sometimes a good, well executed classic experience is all that's needed.
But watch this be some Battle Royale or extraction shooter, which won't appeal to fans of classic Halo and won't be good enough to pull people away from their current Battle Royale/Extraction game for long.

I'll always hold a candle for a successful comeback of Halo, but I fear for the diehard loyalists who will be dejected by the changes and "modernisation" of the core gameplay that is inevitably necessary for that to ever happen, and it would go beyond sprinting.

As for the BR aspect, which is a mode I am yet to click with, I always thought of all forms of fps gameplay on the market that Halo's was distinctly suitable for it.

Imagine a captivating storyline that weaves throughout the entire series, starting from the beginning. Picture seasons filled with epic battles, shifting landscapes, and other enthralling elements. This would be an exceptional addition to the game. It should offer two modes: one where players collaborate in colossal PVE battles against the Covenant, and another where players engage in combat against the Spartans in a similar format. A thrilling 50-vs-50 match that allows players to level up both their Covenant and Spartan affiliations would provide an exhilarating experience.

If this is to accompany Halo CE, then they may actualy dial some of the modern elements back.

A return to roots if you will.

Well, even the thought of proper ADS has the surviving Halo purists in uproar. But any new multiplayer will definitely adopt that most common of targeting, otherwise they're already dating themselves in the eyes of potential newcomers. But it'll go further: full auto precision rifles will be added. Destiny has shown these can work well and fit in with the rest of the arsenal, without breaking the 'Halo feel'. I bet the new game will throw out much of the legacy expectation that came with a Halo release, to be updated to more contemporary mechanics established in the competition.
