Steam gives a good indication. Cronos performed similarly on Steam charts, was multiplat and didn't do well commercially.

TOW2 is Microsoft's big holiday game. It's not some obscure lighthouse game. It's a sequel to a popular game. There is a massive audience for this type of RPG on Steam. The game also got top billing in Microsoft's showcases this year.

Whether the game is good or not, things aren't looking good for it.

Being on game pass doesn't prevent people from buying games, but it surely doesn't help. But that's incidental to my point, which is that Obsidian games don't have this massive draw of players. Never have, even when the games have been thought of excellent.

None of the previous games they made have had any sort of interest near the level of Hollow Knight or Oblivion, so expecting Outer Worlds 2 to have that level of appeal is silly. That doesn't make it a bad game (no more than any of the previous Obsidian games were bad), just not extremely popular.

It's early in the afternoon in the east coast and still morning in the west coast. And every games sale usually depend on the U.S.

So once late afternoon comes, its party time with over 50k ccp

I think it'll peak at below 20K.

It would be pretty humiliating if it peaks lower than OW1 (which didn't even release on Steam until a year later).

It's honestly sad to see how some people here seem to root for games to fail and studios to crash.

I'm not even a big fan of Obsidian, but come on boys, it seems like you don't appreciate games or gaming in general with this attitude

I don't appreciate shitty games, no. And the sooner devs realize those stink the sooner we'll get more of the good stuff.

Obsidian went from making some of the best RPGs out there to making "7/10" kind of crap, and that's being generous in the case of some of them. So yeah ofc I'd be glad if the game fails and the studio goes to shit. Maybe then the actual talented people that still work there (if there's anyone left) might go develop something more worth of everyone's time.

That's up to Obsidian to make a good product. If they don't make a good game, gamers will not buy said game. Nothing to do with "rooting" for games to fail.

From what I have been reading and seeing, this is not a shitty game, in fact it looks very good and possibly a very competent game. I have played a couple of hours now and I think its a big improvement over the first one so far.

Speaking like that about games that you haven't played it's a mistake papito. To judge the game as if it's shit without playing it its not fair.

That's fair but still, I doubt it's good. I've seen the gameplay, and I know Obsidian's writting and how bad it can be. Sorry man but I doubt this one's "so much better" than the one that came before. But hey, hope I'm wrong and the fans enjoy it. I'm just sad to see Obsidian be what it has become: a factory of average games focusing on feeding Gamepass instead of making quality titles.

At least give it a go, I didn't like the first one either but from what I've played so far this is better in every way possible. It's got strong reviews and is getting positive feedback on here as well.

Maybe when it's 10 bucks or so, but I'd need to be in dire need of something to play for that to happen lol.

If the game fails it might be for the best. Just like Avowed this seems like an extremely average RPG to me, so if it fails it might be the waking call for MS to finally put less pressure and more money into the studio and let them cook something that's worth the asking price.

Well, it is a message board for discussing games, not just a place where the only option is to jerk off developers. Some of us have been playing video games since an Atari, and to say we are jaded with the current state of things is an understatement. It's not like I can complain to my wife about how shitty and woke modern gaming is.

I'll have to disagree with a bit here because it does happen in other sectors like the Disney Star Wars trilogy (particularly TLJ and ROS).

But we can definitely have a good read on the quality of the product by how the fans or "fans" react to criticism. There's a stark difference between "You know what? You do you. I understand why it's not for you" and staunchly running defense because the bad, bad consumers aren't giving the product a "fair shake".

Sure I have a problem with that studio but imo it's not fair to declare all my criticism towards their games as invalid because of that.

Hope you enjoy the game man. But all this attitude about "poor developers" or the "sad studio closures" doesn't make any sense to me. I, as a consumer, have all the right in the world to demand quality on exchange for my money. If a studio closes, it means that either their games fucking sucked or they were so grabbed by the neck by the publisher that they had no alternative but to release a half-baked turd. It's not the consumer fault, it never is.

Peoples forget there's hundreds of peoples working there. I see nerds wanting to make RPGs and good games as best as they can.

The people working at those studios make them, and at least 50 of the 70 developers from New Vegas have already left the company and, while some "big heads" still remain there, it's clear that those aren't enough at least judging by the quality of their latest games.

It's not about people wanting to see the world burn. It's about videogame enjoyers wanting to see more quality being delivered to them and imo, if that takes a few studio closures for the big publishers to finally take notice and do something about it, then so be it. And no, a studio closing isn't the end of the world, talented people should have no trouble finding a better job.

The 3 founders of Troika (Fallout 1 & 2) Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky are now at Obsidian, and Jason Anderson is at inXile.

The key peoples of New vegas, Josh Sawyer (director, lead designer, system designer), Scott Everts (world building lead), Charlie Staples (Area lead design lead, lead level designer) are still at Obsidian, and likely of course many other in the lower hierarchy. There last two guys especially who managed to make a desert interesting.
