" Baldur's gate 3 was a groundbreaking game for many reasons. The number of endings, the length of its script, and ultimately, its commitment to telling an incredible story with a diverse cast of characters make it an all-time great. Notably, it was also one of the first major titles to include the gender-neutral pronoun options they/them.

As it transpires, Baldur's Gate 3 actors had actually begun recording lines for the game with only he/him and she/her pronouns, before a conscious decision was made to bring them back in to re-record lines with they/them pronouns.

Last week, we caught up with Baldur's Gate 3 performance director Aliona Baranova. The director/actor is taking part in a new, unannounced project, and we got to spend some time discussing that, alongside shifts in the gaming industry.

While there's still a lot of catching up to do in diversifying the medium, Baranova said that Larian's decision to record every line with they/them pronouns was a "game-changer".

"I feel like it was a game-changer when Larian decided that every single line that mentions pronouns would be recorded with the they/them option," she said. "It did feel like a game-changer. A brilliant one. We'd already started recording, and we already had a lot of lines down with just he and she pronouns, but we brought people back in to make sure, even if it was just one line, to say they/them."


And people are saying that the woke is going away , its not going anywhere , on the contrary more companies will keep on adding stuff like this
 
Really not surprising the game is pretty woke as is. I didn't really care much as it was still a good game but I did think most characters in the game were insanely aggressive with wanting to bang you.

Bruh, these sites dont know what to do anymore for clicks and you are encouraging them by sharing this stupid "news".
Let it be implemented and we can blame as much as we want the developer, but not with "as is transpires"
 
Execution matters. There's a world of a difference between BG3/CP77 and Dragon Age Veilguard. All three games have different pronouns and shit, only one of them did it in a highly embarassing manner. The other two had the options as a feature and it didn't affect the quality of the storytelling as single bit. Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't pump it's brakes to have Karlach squeal about her pronouns, or Astarion doing pushups because she misgendered someone.
 
And that decision ruined BG3 for everyone forever.

If anything this shows that stuff like this doesn't automatically make a game bad, and we should focus our attention on things that actually contribute to a shitty game.

Because a lot of gamers are gooner consoomers who just need their fix and even if subversive trash is put into games they'll still buy them even if it's not on BG3's level of overall quality.
 
This is where AI will crush it, allowing an infinite variety of sounds. So instead of having to constantly address the MC using only pronouns because the name could be anything, you just put the name in, train the AI how you prefer to hear it, and it subs it in throughout the game.

"Hello, my liege, may I introduce this travelling knight, Sir Hans Fuckenfarter, to the Royal Court?"

Larian has never really been a good developer and since Divinity Original Sin they have been even more cringe and the mainstream eats up their slop. Baldur's Gate 3 is also degenerate and no matter how much I want to play it, I won't support their degeneracy. Divine Divinity is the only good game they ever made.

the woke agenda is never going away. First, the entertainment industry is full of people, especially in creative roles, with a more progressive mindset. I think they've always been the majority, but things weren't as politicized in the past as they are today. Second, most consumers don't really care whether a game pushes a progressive agenda or not. So the situation will likely stay the same, whether people like it or not.

Than more companies will tank their sales and eventually shut down. 🤷‍♂️ They are catering to a very small group of people, but loosing another very huge group of people this way. I would be very cautious with that stuff.

Progressive doesn't equal to woke.

So yes, it will go away by natural selection, as everything. It's funny this kind of "inevitable" mindset that History proves wrong again and again. This time won't be any different.

Times change, trends shift and beliefs morph. Woke is just another one, and mighty fragile too as even with so many people in high positions onboard it still manages to fumble somehow.
 
According to my friend you could undress the female companions and they would be naked for the whole game if you wanted, even in cutscenes where they are wrestling each other.

This is so sacrilegious to woke doctrine that it is not possible for the game to be truly 'woke' no matter what else it includes. QED

I swear, I started up being pretty damn liberal-leaning and progressive in my youth, but at times it feels like women are hellbent to demonstrate that putting them in charge of anything is always going to be a mistake.

On somewhat related news, barely weeks ago on the Codex there was a thread about some "leak" of people seething and whining at Larian because the guys in charge are mostly a "boys club".
Which incidentally may explain how shit gets actually done despise all the "woke" posturing.

BG3 is a game with many woke elements, the difference is it's made by someone who actually loves RPG games and clearly made creating a great RPG his #1 priority when making the game. I am probably going to be much more forgiving of a game when that is the case.
Also, the game let's you role play as someone who is not woke, and doesn't take a choice away from you.

Yeah, my only real beef with the game is the CONSTANT pandering for a romantic relationship by some of the male characters. Like, jesus christ man, I'm NOT INTERESTED, I'm dicking the demon chick and trying for the elf lass!

Though I suppose the writers justified it as trying to show men how most women feel...message received! :P
