Arc Raiders |OT| Gaming's Next Mario 64 Moment™

Right that's enough of being nice, this is like a knitting club. Its embarrassing. Enough of looking for lemons with strangers.

I have some decent gear time to ruin some folks days.

Just thought I'd do a solo night raid and use a key I'd been saving, just ran straight to the location and looted what I could, ran all the way to furthest extraction and as I was heading to the elevator I heard someone else had activated it. Decided to wait until I saw the guy going to start the lift to go down as I ran over just slid in before the door closed.

Nice!

This game is pure crack. I was supposed to call it an early night, but it's always "one more raid". Been having more fun than I've anticipated.

More likely he just wants it to be more dangerous than it currently is.

It'll be interesting to see how friendly people remain a month or two from now.
Yeah, I get it. But there has to be a balance between "dangerous" and "frustrating". I hope the developers are aware that true danger should come from dynamic threats, not static ambushes where the outcome feels predictable and unavoidable.

One of the most terrifying, yet dynamic, games I know is the PvE mode in the unfinished beta and flawed game Gray Zone Warfare. It strikes that balance very well, ensuring that skill, patience and decisions largely decide the outcome, and all without a timer... And, allowing players to perform every single action out in a open world field, including quest and inventory management, without ever seeing a loading screen is simply brilliant. I would love to see some similar ideas tailored to Arc sometime.

Anyway, I had a great time with Arc Raiders this evening. Honeymoon is going well :)

Since most encounters are friendly, solo play is absolutely amazing.
That's right. For now I much prefer the wholesome moments over psychopathic knee-jerk ambush gameplay. A lot of people are super-nice. I love it. But like already mentioned by others; we'll see what happens when people get bored and "the nice people" fall off.

Few beginner tips, if you are just starting out.

TLDR. Turn on night mode in the audio and turn the foliage down.

I did turn on night mode. But the foliage doesn't make much of a difference to me in gameplay, and I prefer the nicer looking atmosphere over what is mostly a placebo or a minor issue in the overall gameplay. The bigger bushes where you can actually hide isn't affected. With that said, in a split second scenario of "first spot, first kill" it might be worth it.

But the video was good, several good tips in there.

Night mode changes the sound, not the visuals.

I know :) Edit: Oh wait, I'm sorry: WTF. DO YOU THINK I'M STUPID?? I KNOW IT IS FOR THE SOUND. SO FUCK YOU ASSHOLE!! There, I'm sorry for being nice at first :(

Play teams then. You can go around thirteen party murder hobo, and you can even bitch to your teammates.

We should team up. Seems like we have a lot in common :messenger_ok:

What exactly does the Night Mode setting do? Does the Night Mode sound give players a competitive advantage? Why would anyone not enable it?

Same as how it works with every TV, soundbars, receiver that has it:
  • Loud Sounds are Reduced: Very loud sounds (explosions, crashes) are automatically brought down in volume. This prevents them from being jarring and disturbing others.
  • Quiet Sounds are Maintained (or Slightly Amplified): Very quiet sounds (soft dialogue, footsteps, background ambience) are maintained at a clear level or subtly increased.
(AI summary)

So you can imagine it can be used as an advantage to hear enemies' quiet or distant sounds better. To me it also makes prox chat easier to hear. It's not very "natural" to compress the audio as much though, so it can sound a little jarring at times (to me at least).

This is a bit disappointing.

Yeah... when everyone starts using these settings to their advantage, everyone else is also forced to use it. It's a shame, IMO, to compromise Arc Raiders' fantastic atmosphere. But there you have it. But it's not unique to Arc Raiders. f.ex. most streamers are running their games, like f.ex. COD, at stupid low settings. Even 1080p ~240+Hz at low settings to decrease detail clutter.

This is a bit disappointing.
Yeah its the same as the foliage thing everyone should be on a level playing field. Although not tied to performance so every can enable it. Still an oversight from the dev's in both instances.

Gloves are off btw. Much more fun. Marathon has made me what I am today.

I've told people several times don't shoot I'm friendly, then they turn their back and I destroy their whole world.

Welcome to the streets bitch.

You dishonorable cretin. That sh*t degrades your soul.

Repent and become whole again.

On PS5 and I'm wondering what the red flashing icon above my stamina bar is?
Also what is the best fov setting?

Is there an arc raiders crafting guide that anyone has used. I dont know what I should be breaking down etc. Its all very obscure to me.
This might have what you are looking for. Not used it except for the maps myself.

Some random thoughts:

-Player activated explosives. If I'm downed, I should be able to detonate any/all explosives I'm carrying on me. That added dynamic would make extractions more high stakes. And when I say detonate, I'm talking an explosion that covers the entire room(say the size of the extraction elevator). Down a player, risk getting blown to kingdom come.

-Embark needs to start talking more. Start engaging the community.

-There's no incentive to use any of your "good loot" and it seems people are just dropping it in the vault and forgetting about it because they don't want to risk "losing it" by getting
killed. That's a huge issue IMO for Embark. I wouldn't be surprised to see Embark try some type of decay mechanic on loot if it's not used.

-The game will die very quickly IMO if there's not more story content and missions besides going out and looting junk, wash, rinse and repeat. Trust me, players will start complaining about
this very quickly once the "honeymoon" and all the cool "viral clips" subside.

-A huge portion of the player base who prefer PVE will end up leaving if in-roads aren't made to capture those players instead of telling them to pound sand if they don't like the PVP. That's simply
not good business.

-The atmosphere and world building is *SOLID" and it's what got my initial interest. The music and 80s inspired synth soundtrack is ace.

-Unreal Engine 5 is putting in the work here with Embark obviously having a very good handle on the engine's systems along with their own modifications they're using(apparently a different type of LUMEN
lighting or something like that).

In closing, Embark has a solid foundation for what *could be* an incredible I.P. Now they have to execute.

Its been out a day, give them a break. I've been in the tests for a good while and they are pretty solid in this regard. Not GGG levels but still engage a fair bit with us.

Someone please post the video or Tweet when a player hits the end game wall.

I want to know how quick it takes and what Embark wants us to do when we get there. It does sound like we're (you jerks) ~15 days away from the Stella Montis map which I suspect will play a heavy part of the end game.

Curious myself. I can easily see where the end game is going to be in the other game, this I'm not so sure. Looks like they might have a similar thing going, but as far as I'm aware they the dev's have not spoken about it, if there is one that is.

The end game is the loot we stole along the way .

I get the feeling Embark and Bungie had the same idea with their "one more map soon after launch".

You give the game a month of vanilla sales and then you reinvigorate interest by showing off Mt Killimanjaro. That kind of carrot is more interesting than the standard new map other games get every 3 months.

This genre fascinates. So much potential.
