Meanwhile, in France...

To be fair this is hardly new.
I went to Paris like 10 years ago and even back then touristy areas were full of scammers. I remember noting how the police would sometimes be nearby and do absolutely nothing about it.
Same as with the African dudes with their "free" friendship bracelets harassing tourists (specially women) in plain view and with complete impunity

so what kinda scam are they running, other than the bracelet one? and also, how come they don't have some sort of "no soliciting" laws in place?

They're scamming tourists with the ball under the cup "game".

If you don't want Asmongold's reactions, then go here.

I was laughing my head off at the segment around 17:10 minutes when he was spraying a "blind deaf" fraudster was then hiding behind another women and that person got offended by Tyler Oliviera saying "woman" to her. "How do you know I'm a woman?""YOU"RE A WOMAN ARE YOU NOT?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! DO YOU HAVE A PUSSY OR NOT!??" :messenger_grinning_sweat: :messenger_grinning_sweat: :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Paris today is really chaotic. I was there last year and at Sacre-Coeur I was grabbed by a dude that put a bracelet on me and then immediately 5 more came around me and they "asked" for a small donation.

I don't know about the idiot running around shouting « scammers » (with thinly veiled xenophobic allegations apparently) but scams are a common thing in major tourist places all around the world. I mean the « ball and cups » game goes back to at least the Middle Age. The bracelet thing was a common thing in Andalusia when I went there 10 years ago.
And yeah obviously non-soliciting laws exist, but they're impossible to enforce when you have organized groups on the lookout for any police patrol.

The times I've been to Paris, I've always come away disappointed… Sure, there are beautiful, iconic monuments and great museums, but beyond that, it's a mess. It's constantly gray and dreary, just like the weather. The residential areas aren't pleasant to look at, and the parks aren't very nice or well maintained either.

And there's this kind of apathy among Parisians... a willingness to just let all that heritage slip away, to slowly be replaced, and above all, to do nothing about it… It's just sad to see. France is slowly fading out of history. In a few decades (maybe less), they'll be sending the army into the new favelas, just like in Brazil.

Mainly a problem in Western Europe in this form. Definitely not impossible to enforce it away, it's all obvious and in the open and encountered by millions of people.

Closed the first video after this point.

Not exactly subtle.

Like with that recent stuff about Japan, "society is in decline" is seemingly popular topic on YouTube these days. I guess a good number of people are actively seeking it out and/or being fed it by the algorithm. So YouTube creators are going to lean more into that.

Paris syndrome (パリ症候群, Pari shōkōgun) is a sense of extreme disappointment exhibited by some individuals when visiting Paris, who feel that the city does not live up to their expectations. The condition is commonly viewed as a severe form of culture shock.[1] The cluster of psychiatric symptoms has been particularly noted among Japanese tourists, perhaps due to the way in which Paris has been idealised in Japanese culture.

The syndrome is characterized by symptoms such as acute delusional states, hallucinations, feelings of persecution (perceptions of being a victim of prejudice, aggression, hostility from others), derealization, depersonalization, anxiety, as well as psychosomatic manifestations such as dizziness, tachycardia, sweating most notably, but also others, such as vomiting.

These scammers are low level thugs, they should evolve and open up betting places or banks like they do in my country. At every corner theres a bank and a gambling den lmao.

I went to Paris in 2009 and I saw the same thing. The city is also notorious for having a lot of pickpockets.

I used to cut the French some slack, but not after what I heard. A Scouser I know went to that Liverpool-Madrid final and came back totally raging. He's still buzzing about it, had to help people on the ground, women and children who were just maced in the face for absolutely nothing. Crazy.

the Japanese had a whole term for going to Paris, and being shocked about how much of a shithole it is, ever since the late 80s...

On this trajectory, western europe will be gone. I mean, I hate the french, but we are not much better in the middle of it all.

There are areas in Belgium and the Netherlands normal people would not believe.

While I'm sure there is a problem, the amount of rage bait video on YouTube is getting out of hand. Asmons channel is full of that crap. What is happening in France, Britain, Germany? Why people hate Lord of the Rings? I just goes on and on.

Guess what? Someone out there will be upset about anything. News at 11. It was always like this. Only now they're getting clout and people watch it and get upset. It's a never ending hate circle. No wonder we become more and more devided.

If you don't like what people say, stop giving them clout for the love of everything. Talking about it only contributes to the hate spiral.

It's funny that this scam is running unchanged for a few decades now and people still fall for it. But yeah, at least that's a more passive one than the bracelet scam where you're being approach & confronted.

Don't know about Poland, but my main memory from Budapest was being targeted by three scammers in 2 days while going my own way. Two of them were pretty though...
Prague was fine as far as I remember.

Definitely not impossible to enforce it away, it's all obvious and in the open and encountered by millions of people.
Well the police can't catch them as they scatter as soon as a uniform enters a 100m radius. Pick-pocketers are even harder to catch as you don't notice them even as they bump into you, and half of their skill is passing the loot to an accomplice as soon as they grab it.
In the end the best way to counter them (without using disproportionate counter-terrorist-like systems) is just what is done, let people know about it.
Those are common good practice when you travel abroad : keep your money and papers in secured and separate areas, don't trust people in the street with your money,...
I mean none of the scams in Europe force you to do anything, pickpockets aside you just need to shrug them off to avoid the scam. Something that most people living in Paris learn to do automatically after a few weeks.

No way, huge bustling city with millions of tourists has scammers? And pickpockets as well? Clickbait trash.

I was in Paris this summer , had a great time and felt safe. The city is quite clean as well for the amount of tourists it has.
