Weird. Attractive women and the Horizon series aren't usually in the same sentence in 2025.

Ah! It's a Korean developer. That explains that mystery. Smart move, Sony. Smart move.

I really think that a Mobile Horizon MMO is not the problem. Problem is you do that while going full silent on your big guns and pipeline.

"In development for PC and mobile". Not even a PS5 version?? What??

Wait wait wait wait ..

This is coming out only on iOS, Android and PC. First party just straight up skipping first party platforms now? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

A MMO in this day an age with this specific IP sounds so much like a huge waste of money, on the upside it'll not be released on consoles haha

I don't see a problem with this. If you're going to venture into the mobile space, this is the way to do it. Outsource it to 3rd party devs who actually know how to make mobile games.

Honestly surprised this is not coming to PS5. That just feels very weird, considering how much Hulst has been trying to position Horizon as the premier prestige PS franchise. You'd think that would entail all entries being on your own console, no?

The R&C game being mobile-only I can understand; it's not as prestigious an IP as their AAA blockbusters these days, and the demographic crossover for players of that specific game on mobile & PS5 isn't large. But this Horizon MMO seemed like it'd be a slam-dunk for a console version.

I also think it's setting some questionable optics. Remember when MS had games like Halo Wars and Gears Tactics as PC exclusives? Well we've seen their trajectory since then. I don't want SIE to fall into the same pit. Again it's not even necessarily any particular game of theirs skipping their own hardware that's the odd part; it's the type and the IP associated with it that make it seem weird.

After all, it's not like MMOs are a rare unicorn on PS5. Even the PS2 got MMOs, including Sony's own EverQuest way back in the day. So they never really ignored their own current console for a major MMO that was in-house in the past. So why do that now? Especially for emerging markets like South Korea & China where you think they'd want a potentially major MMORPG on their console which they're also trying to grow in those same markets?

It would be like getting mad that Diablo Immortal isn't on console. Nobody will care about missing MTX-ridden mobile slop.

Maybe. But you still have to admit it's an odd look. Specifically because of the IP this is associated with/tied to.

Again, it feels like when Microsoft made Halo Wars and Gears Tactics exclusively for PC (they didn't come to Xbox until many years later).

Also I have to kinda clarify something in terms of the "IP" part because someone's going to notice that as maybe hypocritical when Nintendo's done this with major IP of theirs like Pokemon. I don't think it's exactly the same because Nintendo don't already have a perception complication in porting so many of their 1P games to a highly similar gaming platform that shares the vast majority of their software library. Which is what SIE's done by porting most of their current-gen titles to Windows PC and Steam over the past five years.

So yes, even tho Nintendo has spinoffs of Mario or Pokemon games that are on mobile but not their own hardware, their main entries in those IP are still exclusive to their own hardware ecosystem be that Switch and/or Switch 2. Plus, they still release a lot of games in those IP annually from their main development studios, so most Nintendo fans don't feel like the output is slowing down at the expense of support for devices outside of Nintendo's immediate hardware.

SIE don't have that benefit, at least not anymore. Maybe they had it back in 2021 & 2022, but it gradually started to fade starting 2023 IMO. So this Horizon MMORPG not being on their own console is actually only an "odd" thing because it's compounding on a pattern of external ecosytem software support SIE have already done so heavily for PC and even Nintendo & Microsoft consoles to a degree, over the past 3-5 years.

That would be the big difference between SIE and Nintendo here.

Making money. People thought Diablo Immortal was a sad presentation. Then it started printing money.
This won't make Diablo money though. I don't know how much interest a Horizon MMO has especially one that is mobile centric first and it's even more telling that this is apparently not coming out on console
