Rumor: Guerrilla Games next project is a multiplayer Horizon game, different from NCSoft MMO

They need to let that IP rest a while, I loved the first game and hated the second one and would be totally fine never playing another Horizon game again. Yeah the sequel looked better but the gameplay elements they added weren't fun, that grapple mechanic was super stiff and boring, the gliding was whatever and flying was fine except you couldn't do any attacks. Whenever you get a mount they make it the weakest it can be, why not let us have some fun and feel powerful in that world? They made the side characters all far more likeable than Aloy, and when we ended up with
two versions of her
it was even worse lol.
Couldn't agree more.

Horizon 2 was pretty but the rest of the game was entirely uninteresting. The fact they have released a Lego follow up and are working on 2 additional GaaS follow-ups reconfirms that the team over at PlayStation have lost touch with their core audience. Aside from enjoying AstroBot and Yotei, I don't know that I have been as bored as I am with their 1st party output.

3rd party titles have really saved PlayStation this gen.

Horizon 3 is probably gonna be a cross-gen title. Can't see SIE of today putting up potentially $300 million on a 1P AAA launch title exclusive to a system just starting its install base from ground zero.

Either that or they do make a Horizon game for PS6 launch, but it'll be a smaller spinoff they can maximize focus of visuals on, but still get it developed relatively quickly and at a reasonable budget. And then Horizon 3 proper comes a bit later when the install base has bulked up some.

I mean, let's hope. But have you seen the leaked screenshots for early version of the GG game? It basically looked like Horizon: Sea of Thieves Temu Edition. It did not look particularly great.

So if GG's title ends up being something more wacky-looking along those lines (more refined visually but not drastically different-looking) and NCSoft's game looks the way it looks, I don't know if that's gonna sit well with PS5 fans of the IP. It'd be like when MS were yapping about the One X's power and then showcased it with Super Lucky's Tale. You have to know your game and know your audience, that's what I'm saying.

And you can have a Horizon Sea of Thieves Edition on PS5 (FWIW I think the character in the 2nd image looks good), just not in lieu or as a replacement to something which would clearly resonate with more of the fanbase like NCSoft's game from the looks of that. I'd say another issue here goes back to SIE's continuous problem with balancing their announcements. Someone over there should've foresaw the potential blowback from PS5 fans over the NCSoft game skipping PS5 (at least at launch), and should've ensured that their game would only be announced/revealed when GG had their version ready enough to do a proper reveal as well. At the very least that's what they should've done.

Because now the prevailing perception around GG's version among a lot online is, it's going to be some Sea of Thieves/Fortnite-looking game chasing their playstyles, based off the leaked images which are widely available. Getting a statement from GG assuring they're working on a Horizon GAAS for PS5 isn't necessarily reassuring when you have those leaked screenshots in the back of your mind. Even if those screenshots were from an early test build, is it really that realistic to expect a complete 180 shift in the art style? If there were, it would've happened by now, and there should've been enough for GG to at least tease a glimpse at the state of their Horizon GAAS as it is now, to wash away concerns of perceptions formed from those leaked screenshots.

However this type of stuff requires actually paying attention to and engaging with the community in online spaces to some degree, which isn't something SIE's been good at this gen (after the second and, seemingly, last good Showcase, not that 2023 disaster), on the whole. This is just more evidence of such. It always feels like with every announcement, something's just at least a little off.
LMFAO

That shit looks so bad but it's at what stage...pre alpha?

But it is Guerilla I am sure the visual style will at least be one good thing they get right. They even managed to make that Lego game look good graphically

Can only imagine how much of a ball-ache that'll be to play when the SP game in Horizon dawn has you foraging and crafting shit as half the gameplay experience.

The lengths devs will go nowadays to avoid making the games players want...
And what do players want? Another sequel that looks 99 percent the previous part, worse story and some updated gameplay?

Because that's what these 5 year later sequels are.

I have always said, Sony's MP pivot would have been more exciting and new than their single player sequels, if they had used existing IP rather than generic new IP.

If there's something called "Horizon" Fatigue, then I think I might have it. I know it's a great franchise and I actually liked Zero Dawn, but I feel like since Hermen Hulst got to a Leading Position at Sony/PlayStation etc, it feels like Horizon is everywhere lately like those annoying Fortnite ads at the height/peak of its popularity 🫩

Yeah, that's technically true, they did. Mid-ass game, but it looks good for a LEGO title.

But that also had a good art style and appealing characters in the art style. Who really wants to play with that pirate-thingy in that screenshot? Who feels good playing with a character like that?

SIE are definitely giving Horizon priority in terms of which AAA IP among theirs is generally getting pushed among the whole. And I do think Hulst being one of the heads of SIE is part of that, I mean how could it not be?

But I don't have any fatigue for the IP, personally. It having two GAAS when stuff like Twisted Metal got their GAAS cancelled (a shame because the actual show is pretty good from what everyone says) is bewildering.
