I spent 1k+ hours on GW1 back in the days. Both PvE and PvP (particularly GvG) are immaculate. It's way better than GW2 imho.

This seems to be a repackaged and improved version of the original. No engine change or anything fancy. Still cool to see though.

This a separate version or an update to the existing GW1 Trilogy? No Eyes of the North?

Edit: Seems like an update for GW1 Trilogy and a lower price for those that never bought it. $20 instead of $30. Nice deal IMO.

Eyes of the North might still be separate though.

With controller support AND Steam Deck verified??

i remember as a kid not being able to take GW1 seriously because the level cap was 20 lol

coming from diablo 2 it seemed like a joke

probably missed out on a good game

Day one. I don't know how long I spent on this when it first released, but it was basically all I played the year it came out. The only MMO type of game I've ever really enjoyed, although that's probably due to the instance based quests. Shame the sequel wasn't really anything like it.

Yeah, I was reading up on this, pretty cool. I liked Guild Wars 1 a lot back in the day, so controller support + UI scaling/revamp + some updated visuals is nice. I believe if you own any of the original games on your arena.net account, this is essentially a free update.

My understanding is Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall will have remastered visuals, but Eye of the North will just get the UI improvements + gamepad support (visuals no though).

Oh
SHIT

Never played the first, but I do have thousands of hours on the second. I hear you can play most of the story solo with AI followers so I might buy it for the lore experience.

I need to see the behind the scenes on this update. Their game director was notoriously stubborn about not adding official console controls/interface no matter what, even though people made a controller input mod for it ages ago. It felt like heaven and earth had to move to convince him otherwise.

This gives me hope for GW2 (and maybe GW3 on consoles).

I never liked GW2 because it felt overly spammy and combat didn't feel impactful. Just a bunch of flashy moves. I also felt like GW2 copied a lot of their classes/races from WoW and FFXI. What makes GW1 better? Is it a pure solo experience? Is it going to feel bleak or bland in 2025?

It's an ARPG versus what GW2 is. Think more party based Diablo, somewhat Dungeon Siege.

The skill system is also second to none. You have a max of 8 slots, come up with build that works for you and pulls of crazy combos.

Initially you can take NPCs so you can play single player. Later you can unlock heroes which are enhanced NPCs that you can customize. And finally they added the ability to slot in other characters from your account in the NPC slots.

This plus much better storytelling/story cinematics Northeastmonk Northeastmonk

I still remember the stories around Prince Rurik, Shiro, and The Vizier much better than I remember the NPCs from GW2.

Haven't played GW2 since before any of the expansions released but did they ever bring back the Mursaat? They were way better than anything in the second game. White mantle too. About the only thing that was good about the second game was the beautifully crafted world but everything else was better in the first and it's expansions.

i remember playing the GW1 beta in college. Never ended up playing after it officially launched though, but I liked what I managed to do.

I'm definitely interested though. Have had the MMO itch for a while now. Since Heroes' Journey shut down. RIP.

Reforged makes it sound like a remake or something then you see it's just a patch, kind of a miss.

Still cool. I'll try it again, I think I only ever played some public alpha demo. Crazy good visuals for its time, for a MMO-like. I was probably into WoW more or less back then so it seemed eh in comparison. The smaller scale and limited amount of skill slots available at any time is more attractive now.

There's no other game quite like GW1 tbh, certainly not that I've played. It's more like a TCG in the way you pick and choose your skills for combat, and it's a solo and co-op game rather than an MMO.

Is it out earlier than Dec 3, or just in name for now, the Trilogy switched to Reforged in my Steam library.

> Reforged

Finally, GW will redeem this word for me. Thanks to Blizzard's abominable creation, my brain associated it with a shameful failure for the past few years.

I'm had the original game and all the expansions. Will it just patch it? I might jump back in. I'm sure my account was hacked years ago and looted looted

Is this game similar to TES Online does anyone know? Never really played any online RPGs.
This is a cooperative RPG, so quite different from traditional MMOs.

There is no persistent open world, you meet other players in cities/outposts, party up and complete quests and main missions in instanced sessions (8 players max if I remember correctly). There are both pre-defined henchmen or customizable heroes that you can add to your party in case. The combat system is slower paced but super addicting, the combinations you can make between all the classes and skills are insane.

PvP was a major component of the game, it has lots of strategic depth and team coordination is needed to win the more structured game modes (GvG and Heroes' Ascent).

tl;dr It's fucking great.

Yes, the update is free for the owners of the original games.

Created a new Warrior/Monk (like ole' times) and did the first few missions. Huge smile on my face the whole time. Feels amazing on controller, and looks so good at 120+ fps. Also love all the small additions, like the quest tracker. Big W for me.

By the way, if you buy the Steam version, you can still login with your existing ArenaNet account. So I just bought it out of convenience.

You can just by the base version, no need to buy Eye of the North in that case.
