Japan's new heavy metal prime minister Sanae Takaichi recently issued a statement suggesting that Japan could intervene to defend Taiwan in case of a Chinese attack.

This did not go over well with the CCP.



Relations have rapidly deteriorated in the days since. China has called for an end to mass Chinese tourism in Japan and hundreds of thousands of flights have been cancelled.



China has also restarted publicly airing grievances about WW2 atrocities.



The propaganda war China is waging is entertaining though.



No one will ever be as cool as when they're portrayed by a CCP propaganda artist.

US and other western powers should step up and declare solidarity with Japan ... but they probably won't.

CCP has always been a petulant and hypocritical bitch, and each time they try to save face they end up embarrassing themselves even more.

Time and again CCP has demonstrated why it was a huge mistake to be over reliant on China and their money and cheap labour.
 
I live in Taiwan after also spending almost seven years in China. The latter has gone completely berserk again, and the usual assortment of shills - Crackhead Nathan Rich just being one of many on X - are switching to genocidal rhetoric. Meanwhile, I am travelling to Japan again next month and hope to see less Chinese tourists there. Alas, they'll still be there, all while professing their hate on Xiaohongshu or whatever closed-off app they use.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this always Japan's position? Especially when Abe was there. Their argument was that a Taiwan invasion would undermine their own security, so they would support them (and basically drag the US into it.) The way I see it, China will be saying this for the next 100 years. They always do these things to push buttons and see what they can get away with, while energizing their nationalistic base. Little do they know, that support is quickly dwindling in the younger generations

It has been Japan's position all along - it's just they never really spoke out loud until those PMs stepped down or whatnot - just like other nations put ambiguous stance all along.
Sanae directly mentioned human rights violation of Uyghur at APEC meeting in front of Xi too. She's got some balls, that her popularity in Japan is quite something too - that whatever she's saying regarding China, has been in Japanese people's mind for a long time, whether you call it Sinophobia or whatnot.
 
Japanese killed untold millions of people during WW2, but CCP is responsible for many more deaths of the Chinese people with Great Leap Forward. It's also an authoritarian state that wants to subjugate all of the West as with the Chinese emperors of old. So I will go with Japan on this one. Fuck China.

It seems inevitable the US and Japan would join forces to prevent a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. I get that it's not politically correct or good for relations with China to say that out loud, but Pooh is not taking over the country with the most important chip fabs in the world.

That would be like Russia invading Saudi Arabia to take over the oil refineries. Again, something the US just wouldn't allow.
 
Japan got a bit of a over tourism issue right now anyway. and with how badly some of the Chinese travelers had been behaving (big group dancing for a video in the middle of a busy street, defecating out in the public, disrespectful in shrines, and so many more), a lot of the Japanese people are probably glad they stop coming.

Is it fair to assume the current Japanese defence force (the SDF) wouldn't cut it in terms of providing any meaningful support to Taiwan and they need to rapidly re-arm?

JSDF has 251k active personnel, 56k reserve, $51 billion budget

PLA has 2M active personnel, 510k reserve, $314 billion budget

China is smart enough to not actually instigate a war while their economy is catching up. They see how well it's going for Russia, and cutting themselves off like that isn't going to happen. Not until bricks is equal to nato at least
 
The Chinese PLA would already have every US, SDF and allied base in the region dialled in. It's a safe assumption that China would hit those sites with waves of ballistic and cruise missiles, likely overwhelming any missile defence systems or units stationed there.

But China's first strike would need to be damn good, because the US and allied response would be devastating. China is surrounded by rivals and opportunists, and even the geography works against it. Everything China has built over the past half century, including the rapid industrialisation, the economic growth, the global integration and the infrastructure, would be systematically destroyed. The CCP knows this that's why they bark so loud and so frequently.

China's military is virtually untested, not much experience since the Korean War, a bit in the Vietnam era. Real action isn't likely to go well for them, though they do have enormous manufacturing capability.

Expect they'd only go for Taiwan if it were unopposed by a weak US president & Japanese PM.

The realistic scenario would be that if China moved to start a full-scale invasion of Taiwan it would not be a surprise. You can't hide mobilizing hundreds of thousands of troops and also the associated amphibious landing craft. So what would happen is that everyone in the surrounding region would first perform a massive evacuation of the island of any civilians who wanted to leave but most importantly all the employees and families of TSMC. After this happened, if China still decided to move on a mostly deserted island, the TSMC buildings would all mysteriously explode in massive detonations until there was nothing left but ash. Reports that American B-2 stealth bombers passed over Taiwan shortly before the explosions would be vigorously denied

Before anyone asks, yes the TSMC fabs being built in Arizona aren't just decorative. They are there just in case most of the world's advanced semiconductor production facilities in Hsinchu suffered a very unexpected and dramatic RUD in advance of a Chinese invasion

Born and raised in North America, ethnically Han (I think), speaks Cantonese better than Mandarin, currently surviving in China. Needless to say, I am fully contrarian to most of the opinions of this thread. Of course you guys will think you are unbiased. I love visiting Japan and usually blend in as I am a gentle introvert, occasionally witness some potential inner turmoil with more extroverted Mandarin speakers in Japan in small shops. Last time I was in a skewer place and saw a group of Mainland Chinese tourists mingling with a couple from Taiwan in Mandarin whom they met in that restaurant about where to visit, etc. I noticed some slight tension with the chefs in that small shop, while I just stayed silent and enjoyed my meal. At the end of the day, we are in a reality show that feeds into our respective yin and yang energy balance or imbalance.

Seeing all that propaganda, there is so much weird stuff.
On the one hand, it's true that the crimes that Imperial Japan committed in China, were as terrible and cruel as anything the Nazi Germany did in Europe.
On the other hand, the CCP has killed dozens of millions of it's own citizens due to it's civil war, policies that led to mass starvation, and political persecution.
So it's highly hypocritical to point the finger at Japan, when the CCPs hands are covered in the blood of it's own people.

I never expected to see China officially endorse the image of Winnie the Poo for Xi Jinping, after so many years banning any such reference.
But I guess they are desperate to portray Xi Jinping as not being the dictator of an oppressive communist regime.

It's also curious to see China trying to portray the evil's of Imperial Japan, while China is trying to rebuild it's own empire. Which as resulted in the invasion of neighboring countries and the oppression of several minorities.
A good example is the invasion and oppression of Tibet. But I have to give credit where it's due. We no longer talk about Tibet, mostly due to China's control of the UN and their propaganda that focuses on other countries.

Another curious situation is that image where China tries to portray that everyone is against Japan. Even Russia.
All the while, China has a gigantic dispute with Russia because of Manchuria, which Russia took from them at the end of WW2.
And China as been trying to get it back for a long time. They even went to war a few times.
 
To be fair. Chinese are little bitches, who whine about every little bit of criticism (both as a society and as individuals). So seeing Japan, out of all countries, ragebaiting them is hilarious.
 
China just wants to sound scary on the world stage..

They need Taiwan just as much as everyone else, they supply the entire world market with wafers for chips. Without them, everything would fall apart and as much as China would love to control that, they cant.

Should a threat ever arise, Taiwan's allies would rally up against China in a heartbeat.

Oh I don't think the US would blow up those fabs. No chance. I think Taiwan would happily invite US troops into the country to provide security, and the US military would station a few thousand troops with anti-air batteries in the strategically critical locations.

China attacking Taiwan is one scenario for Pooh. China attacking Taiwan with American troops on the ground ready to defend Taiwan is a whole different ball game.

And despite all his previous rhetoric about "pointless foreign wars", Trump hates looking weak. He knows full well if he let China invade Taiwan, he'd be criticized as weak for not using the might of the US military to defend US interests.

Japan committed some terrible acts during the Second World War, on par with Nazi Germany. It is largely forgotten and not taught in much of the western world. The way the country managed to rebuild its global reputation in the decades that followed is actually quite remarkable.

Chinese government is not accountable to its people, they don't need to do anything. However the concept of "saving face" is very strong, which will make the Chinese refute no matter what is being said if it puts China in a bad position.

I don't support China at all but wouldn't a hot war obliterate both economies? Japan is 230% debt to GDP. History has shown that even at 100%(US is 120%), it's game over even if it takes a few decades, there's no going back to health without a complete reset. It has gotten so bad that the bank of Japan owns 80% of ETFs, 50% of government bonds, and 7% of their stock market.

China hides behind falsified government numbers and has to fire up the printer to avoid a national real estate crisis. They also are on a house of cards but seemingly better off with natural resources.
 
Japan testing it's working railguns that are designed to shoot down hypersonic missiles. Could be a game changer in 10 years. China is nowhere near ready to invade Taiwan yet.

China is waiting until it's convenient if could invade without the us navy being able to stop it. Currently It can't.

Honestly, not enough reparations for their neighbors. Also, Japan don't teach their children much about their own war crimes during WWII era in history classes, unlike Germany. Many of their war criminals have been forgiven unlike forever persecuted like Nazi members long after the war too.

Nice video, even it it is a little old, talking about China and their weird diplomacy in the last few years. The channel is pretty good and have a few others videos talking about China in general and Taiwan in particular. I suppose that China will soon find another country to offend.
