Never played Gothic, I was actually being honest when I asked what am I looking at. I legitimately don't know.

Those women looked like whores and in the remake they made them ugly + replaced the whore outfit with seemingly normal clothes.

Lore reason for wearing that in the original, I guess, is that those women were payment for the bandits that rule that encampment in exchange for some of the ore that's in some nearby mines. Something like that, I've barely played the game.

According to the reddit thread where the OP pic was taken from, in the original game these women are being held as sex slaves by some tyrant style character from one of the factions in the game.

I'd imagine they are afraid of being accused of "sexualizing victims of abuse" or something. But it still seems really stupid, it's just part of the dark fantasy setting and this is just another example of fantasy being soy-ified.
